I guess that’s the trade off as I enjoy the screen size of my roommate’s iPad Air, yet it doesn’t feel nearly as tactile and pleasing in the hands as my mini. For example, reading magazines in Apple news+ I have to pinch zoom a bit too often, but really that is not a deal breaker. It’s when I carry my mini around and open it up, say at a coffee shop, that it’s size is truly appreciated. For ebooks it is still perfect.Performance: 5 stars on this one. So called jelly scrolling has never entered my conscious awareness (1st world problems!). Software can be occasionally buggy, but nothing that a restart won’t clear up. Downloads and updates are fast.Outdoor use: Pretty good, not great, but good enough for most situations.Apple Pencil use: Great in unexpected ways. If I have a true complaint of the mini, it would be the difficulty of hitting page arrows just right with my finger. I don’t know if it’s the size of the mini or what but I’ve found using the Pencil for page navigation and scrolling to be so helpful! It’s comforting to have in the hand as well and snaps to the side of the unit firmly. Well worth the extra money as an accessory. The mini’s screen size puts a limit on effective work/school related note taking etc, but it is still perfect for journaling and personal use notes. I don’t draw so can’t speak to that.Media consumption: again almost perfect. Movies/shows are great as the form factor allows comfortable one handed use or easy use while reclining. That’s a big deal to me. Otherwise I’ll use the TV. The iPad Air is just a little to big for this purpose.Full disclosure, I wouldn’t want to use the mini for any work/school related tasks. It’s just too small. If this is your intention, go bigger for sure. For just about everything else, the mini won’t disappoint. I still get that tactile enjoyment from sitting down/reclining and opening this up to read, browse, watch, journal, etc. and the wow factor hasn’t gone away.

It is now mid-October, so I have been using & loving the device for about 6 weeks! When I purchased the device, it was part of a sale on the mini for $399 from $499. I then got an additional $40 off because I chose the “renewed” version, for the total price of $359! It came in the exact same apple box with all components. The iPad is perfect! No scratches, easy to hold, fast, light, and portable. I love that it use USB-C like the iPad Pros and most other devices these days.I would not pay $499 (the typical asking price) for this product. For $399 or less, it is a fantastic deal! It is definitely a niche product for people who want a smaller device. I love it ... MoreI absolutely LOVE this iPad! I only paid $359+ tax! For $399 or less, it is a fantastic deal! It is definitely a niche product for people who want a smaller device. I love it for streaming, email, reading, and general internet browsing. (TIP! Whenever new apple products come out or if there is a holiday sale, the prices of their products drop DRAMATICALLY! I only buy iPads/laptops on sale. These sales are extremely consistent and predictable.)I used to have the iPad mini 4, but by 2022 it was too slow to do any meaningful browsing. I much prefer browsing on my iPad mini 6 vs. my iPhone 13 or my MacBook Air. It is light, fits my hands well, is enough screen to stream and read, and the browsing is FAST! I highly recommend this device to anyone looking for an additional iPad for recreational purposes. Something to note is that the finger scanner button is on the top right of the device and the volume buttons are on the top left of the device.I will note that I also have a regular ipad 9th generation that I use with a folio keyboard case that was provided by the school I work at. I teach special education. I could not do any lesson planning or “work” on my iPad mini. I consider my mini strictly a recreational device.Someone with larger hands or who prefer a larger screen may prefer the cheaper 9th generation iPad which starts at $329 as their daily device (eg. My dad), or if you need something faster and lighter with more technological features, the new iPad Air which starts at $699, might be for you (eg. Student, software engineer, trader, architect). I will also note that I am impressed with how well the regular ipad 9th generation has held up with rigorous daily use for my work.Although the $329 price is appealing, the ipad 9th generation is wayyyy too large and heavy for me to use as a personal device! I use it strictly for work- eg. lesson planning and taking data. I am always excited to go home and do my personal browsing on my adorable iPad mini 6 :) I have the purple color which comes out as a bit more of a grey, as you can see in the pics.

The screen is pretty good, though not as good as the amazing miniLED display of my iPad Pro 12.9", but still good, and the stereo speakers are pretty good. The "jelly" scroll effect that you hear about for me is not something that bothers me, as I am mostly writing instead of scrolling up and down all the time. The only slight weakness I have found is the battery life, but that is an acceptable tradeoff given its size. If I had to, I definitely could use this for normal iPad duty - watching TV/movies , email, internet, etc.

Awesome little tablet w/ a few nitpicks
15 February 2022

I just got my 64GB Space Gray from Walmart for $459 and I have to say I freaking love this little tablet! I am actually downgrading from the 11" iPad Pro to the Mini as I now have a 16" MBP, w/ it's gigantic screen, and really just use my tablet for reading the news and watching YouTube in the recliner or in bed (for which a smaller/lighter tablet is far more comfortable). Here is my take away so far:1. The jelly scroll is a thing (particularly if you go looking for it) but only while scrolling in portrait mode. It makes blocks of text lag behind a little bit giving paragraphs a slightly angular look while scrolling. It's not as smooth and pretty as the 120Hz scrolling on the iPad Pro, but given that I am not actively reading text while scrolling pages up/down, ... MoreI just got my 64GB Space Gray from Walmart for $459 and I have to say I freaking love this little tablet! Here is my take away so far:1. The jelly scroll is a thing (particularly if you go looking for it) but only while scrolling in portrait mode. It makes blocks of text lag behind a little bit giving paragraphs a slightly angular look while scrolling. It's not as smooth and pretty as the 120Hz scrolling on the iPad Pro, but given that I am not actively reading text while scrolling pages up/down, and that thankfully I happen to read 95% of my content in landscape mode, I can let it slide given all the other benefits of the small form factor. Definitely worth a look in store if you have any level of OCD about this though lol. Here's a video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJQiu6TTx942. I am now waiting on a replacement order for the 256GB model and will be exchanging because, try as I may to slim down the bloat to "the essentials", 64GB is not going to get it done for me lol. I work at sea and will use the iPad for watching saved YouTube/Disney /NetFlix episodes and Apple Music (as we do not have internet when any from land on my ship). I could not even get my existing load out of music and apps to fit comfortably before trying to download any video content. 128GB for entry level model would be ideal (Like my iPhone 13 Pro) and Apple knows that... So gonna cough up the extra $150 after all for what I'm sure will be "too much space" haha. Oh well, can't upgrade it later I suppose.3. The new Mini is plenty powerful, has a beautiful and bright screen for a Non-Pro model, lightweight in the hands, semi-pocketable, supports Apple Pencil 2 wonderfully and seems to provide similar battery life to the full size iPad models and comparatively good quality and loud enough stereo audio as well (Still better than iPhone 13 Pro). Also, the CenterStage FaceTime camera provides excellent HD video quality and automatic tracking like the iPad Pro which is even better than using your iPhone. The 3:2 aspect ratio of the new Mini (as opposed to 4:3 from last ten and most other iPad lines) makes for a wider display which means narrower black bars top and bottom on 16:9 content. So basically, even though this screen is technically ~3", or 25%, smaller than the iPad Air/Pro 11 it certainly does not feel that much smaller. A very clever space optimization very akin to what Apple did shoving the System menu up and out of the way into the notch bar on the new 14" and 16" MacBook Pros.Aside from my first 2 nitpicks above, overall I am quite pleased with the Mini and, though it surely is not the best bang for your buck (Regular iPad has got to be the best value for many and iPad Air

Good size, but a few negatives. "Value" not there.
3 September 2022

I really like the mini ipads. To me they are the perfect size. With that said I've owned the ipad mini 2, ipad mini 4, and recently ipad mini 6. I tend to skip some generations as I don't feel the need to upgrade all the time. The previous models were work horses and provided me many hours of entertainment in games and videos. This ipad 6 is similar. I really love the size, and the weight of the product. The ipad mini 4 had the front bottom circular button, and the on/off switch on the top right hand corner of this device is reminiscent of that.I do like the touch ID. It's an awesome addition and easy to use. What I do not care for is the volume button on the top left hand corner. I did prefer the old location of it on the left hand side of the ipad. It's an awesome addition and easy to use. What I do not care for is the volume button on the top left hand corner. I did prefer the old location of it on the left hand side of the ipad. But I do understand that the apple pencil probably needed the left side to be empty. What I don't appreciate is the "value" put on this product. When I purchased the Ipad Mini 4, it was around the 400 range. Now this device is 650. The data did double from 128gb to 256gb, but still, 256gb is awful knowing that we can get 256gb micro sd cards for like 20 bucks. I wouldn't have minded the price tag IF the device worked well and the quality was good, but it doesn't and it isn't. There are a few issues with both software and build quality.1. The jelly scroll everyone talks about, while not a huge issue, I don't think it should be that noticeable on this device. I compared both the ipad mini 4 and this ipad mini 6 side by side, and it was significantly worse on the ipad mini 6.2. When I have the screen off and press on the screen, there's a screen pressure distortion that is quite noticeable. I had actually purchased two ipad mini 6 and the other one I had to return because the screen distortion spots were really bad. they showed up with the slightest pressure.3. I don't know if anyone even uses the "today" column anymore. It's the column that comes up when you left swipe the home page. You can put a bunch of apps on it. But it is glitchy. I called Apple and tried to figure out why it's glitching and how to fix it but honestly they said the "today" column should've been removed and was a remnant of an older iOS when we couldn't use widgets on the home screen. Which makes sense to me, it does seem sort of redundant with the ability to put widgets on the home screen. Yet... this "feature" is still there last I checked with iOS 15.6.1.4. As I used this device more, I noticed sometimes when I had the keyboard sound on, the keyboard sound would be extremely loud and then soften as I type more with it. At first I thought it was me, and I had left the sound on extremely loud, but no. It wasn't me. It was either the sound board malfunctioning or the software being weird.I do really like the ipad mini 6 for, size, portability, ease of use. The build quality has taken a hit though, I'm not sure if it's due to covid and supply shortages or what. But Apple needs to keep up its game and not let quality slip. I put I recommend this item, but only because of the positives I stated.

Good, but think before buying
7 October 2021

1. I preorder the purple mini after cancelling the pink mini preorder. I will say in hindsight, I do some what regret buying the purple because the purple isn't quite as vibrant or colorful as advertised and in comparison to the IPad Air 4's color options. If you are trying to decide based on color, the colors in real life are pretty muted and or darker than shown in pictures/video.2. I preorder the 256 gb Purple IPad Mini, this is the 6th generation with the modern IPad Pro industrial design. It is 8.3" across and while the foot print of the mini is smaller than the previos mini, it is a bit bigger. The previos mini (IPad Mini 5th gen) was a 7.9" screen with the large bezel, classic IPad design and now with the new mini, it is 8.3" with smaller all around bezels. ... More1. The previos mini (IPad Mini 5th gen) was a 7.9" screen with the large bezel, classic IPad design and now with the new mini, it is 8.3" with smaller all around bezels. The mini is very light and in a way a bit unusual. I have the IPhone 13 pro max, but I feel that while objectively the mini IS bigger, it makes me feel it is smaller. The mini is also very lightweight and prefect for carrying around the house or on the go. In comparison to the Mini's older siblings, I feel it is a very specialized/ niche product. The Mini is a smaller and a bit more beefier Air 4. This Mini has the A15 chip that is also on the IPhone 13 series (Note it is NOT as "strong" as the 13's chip) whereas the Air 4 has the A14 chip. HOWEVER, I really recommend not playing the spec game towards the AIr and Mini. The Air is just as capable (and larger) than the Mini.If you are a pilot of sorts, I think you are already aware of the uses of the mini. As well as those who uses Minis to control drones. If you are someone who needs ultra portability and something powerful, bigger than the IPhone Max's, but not over 10"+ and need to do something in quick bursts or just want to consume media on a decently sized screen: This IPad Mini is for you.I really don't recommend the Mini to those who are either:A student- You need something bigger in all honesty to take notes. This is more like a notepad vs a regular sized piece of paper. The more room the better.Artists- This is more of a toss up. If the size fits for you then that's good, but I'd suggest a bigger canvasSuper Pro users- Unless you REALLY like the size or cannot currently afford a bigger IPad, then go for it. I suggest getting an older gen IPad Pro or getting the Air or even maybe the IPad Generation series just for the size and other bells and whistles the Mini doesn't have. There are some issues I have with the mini:The scrolling issue, I honestly cannot tell if it's just my eyes or the screen being weird or both. However it is NOT a SUPER MAJOR issue. Apparently it's a problem within 60hrz displays. However, I still think Apple should do something more than saying it's fine. The scaling is very odd. Apple went with a 3:2 scale this time and it's honestly looks rather weird. The icons and text looks way too small and I had to but on larger icons and text on this device. The storage. It is 2021, I find it laughable and rather annoying how Apple will charge over 400+ dollars for their IPads to STILL be at a 64gb starting compacity. People (usually) don't buy IPads every year, they keep them far longer than phones. It should be AT LEAST 128gb starting. If they don't want it to hurt the Pro's, up the storage on there too. Also I forgot to mention this, IPad's even with cellular are not good alternatives for a regular phone. You can't make phone calls unless you work around it. I think this is definitely more so a companion device. The Mini is definitely a good device IF you know what you're buying it for. I really like it for reading books and watching videos on youtube. In a pinch it's good for quick notes and doodles and fits in my kitchen when I need to see the recipe or listen to something. However, It's an expensive device just to do those simple things. I highly suggest thinking of the reasons of why you want the Mini and see if fullfils your wants and needs in comparison to the other IPad's and tablets out there. It's a good device, but can be misunderstood.

Great if you want small, buy iPad 9 if you don’t

There’s a lot I like about the iPad Mini and a few things I don’t. I liked that it’s super fast in games like Roblox, it hardly ever lags when I’m playing it. The size is really nice because it’s like a medium sized book so that’s nice, especially for typing in portrait/landscape and games. The stereo (top and bottom) speakers and screen are pretty good. The battery life lasts like 8-9 hours for videos, books, Safari but for large games (Roblox lol) it goes faster at more like 5-6. Supposedly it can magnetically attach the Apple Pencil 2 to the side but I didn’t buy one. It also has a camera flash. However, the things I’m not thrilled about are the in-real-life very pale Pink color, and low storage option for my price range. So far, though, I downloaded like 12 games, social media, shopping etc. and I’m at 21/64GB, and I know I won’t have much photos on it like my phone does. If need be, you can offload apps you use rarely but keep the data files. Also, it doesn’t have a haptic vibration which sorta sucks. In conclusion, I would definitely buy the iPad Mini if you know you want a small tablet, but if you don’t care either way just get the iPad 9 and save $200. For me, though, the size is great and has a few extra features so I got this one.

I like it, but…

I have been a long time user of apple products. And when I say long time, I mean 3 years old using a dinosaur Apple monitor. This is the first time I have come across an Apple product I didn’t love. I like it, dont get me wrong, but I had to drop a star for two reasons, and both these reasons are really only something long time Apple users would nitpick about.First of all. All of my current Apple devises use face recognition (my watch being an obvious exception). This new iPad Mini takes us back to 2014 with a finger print scanner. Not a big deal if you like that. But when you are used to unlocking your device with just your mug, I’ve had a couple instance of sitting there a few seconds wondering why its not unlocking, only to remember it needs my finger print. But when you are used to unlocking your device with just your mug, I’ve had a couple instance of sitting there a few seconds wondering why its not unlocking, only to remember it needs my finger print. And as far as I can see from the sittings, there is no way to make it face recognition. The last reason, and I’m sure there is a logical reason for this, is the placement of the volume buttons. Apple has turned it into a scavenger hunt (spoiler: its on the top left). Maybe I’m just griping, but for as long as I have owned iPods, iPads, iPhones etc, it had been on the side. Why the change? It just seems like a really awkward place to put it.Any how, if you’re new to Apple, this is a great device to start out with. Long time users, you might be scratching your head about some things. All around though, I do like this iPad for its size and the obvious interface. Works great for streaming on the go.

The iPad for tablet connoisseurs
16 January 2023

I have owned iPad Minis since the first came out and have always appreciated them for their portability and ease of use due to their size. The Mini has always been my go to iPad. It is the one I use the most by far on a daily basis. So when the 6th gen Mini came out I purchased one in September of of 2021, but made the mistake of getting the 64GB model which is simply not enough anymore not even for a tablet. So I took the advantage of the recent Best Buy sale price and trade in offer and got a 45% discount on the 256GB model which is really the only one people should be considering. If you are looking to use an iPad as a tablet look no further than this is the one. If I only had one model of iPad to choose from this would be the one. I use it all the time and take it everywhere. If your needs trend more to productivity then get an iPad Pro or Air with the Magic Keyboard or better yet a MacBook.
