Absolute cracker! The package is a triumph in design in all respects, even down the the packaging. Near silent, efficient, mad performance for the keen price. This base model is the sweet spot and has more guts than most will ever need. A generation of Mac Mini that compares well in performance benchmarks to computers costing twice price, and it's perfectly formed. The M4 slaps!

The M4 Pro is an upgrade from my previous M2 Pro and so far I can say that I'm very impressed with the new model. The size is tiny compared to the M2 model but very quick and is in fact more powerful than the M2 Pro. That's not to say there aren't some challenges in getting it. First, there are no USB-A ports, they're gone. If you have legacy equipment that use USB-A ports then you will either have to use a hub or use an adapter. I bought an adapter for my Apple SuperDrive so that it can connect directly to the Mini which is the only way it'll work. Second, I have a HD, a webcam and a printer that need USB-A ports. I have 2 HUBs that have internal storage made for the M2 Mac Mini but are still usable with the M4 Mac Mini. Everything works just as it should. All in ... This is my first non laptop Apple computer. I used a Macbook for years, it was all I needed at the time. I never considered the older Mini, either the Intel based or M1/2 based ones, they were ok for what they were but they lacked normal priced upgrade options...seriously $200 for 256GB of additional storage is nuts!This new one still suffers from Apples delusional upgrade pricing, but they at least start you off with more ram (16GB) instead of a measly 8GB, and the M4 chip in the base model is plenty powerful enough for even heavy editing work. I got around the idiotic upgrade pricing for the storage by adding a Thunderbolt 4 external enclosure (around $50) and added my own 4TB NVMe ssd from Crucial. The transfer took much less time than I expected! I really appreciate finding the suggestion to do the migration with the use of an ethernet cable between the two.My friends consider me a "techie". My other items includean iPad Air with WiFi + Cellular, also purchased at Best Buy, and an iPhone 12 mini. I have a 10 year old Macbook Pro. It was due for an upgrade a few years ago but the timing for me was affected by the introduction of the M1 chip by Apple. I hesitated to upgrade when the M1 came out. I'm not fond of buying into brand new technology made by anyone - so I waited. And waited. My work life has changed with less travel/mobility, so the Macbook upgrade hasn't been a priority. As my understanding about AI grows I now use it across my devices.In general as far as "use" goes I don't have preferences by platform except for this -- I absolutely love the "connections" that exist with Apple devices. I love the FIND MY capabilities, and Apple's constant innovations.The M4 is an exciting upgrade and added to the new minimum RAM speed these are the best improvements made by any company recently. The quality of the build of the device, it's special new features and new capabilities, combined with its affordability is why I love this new Mac Mini.It's a great value!With it's small size one could *almost* make this a portable device.I'd recommend this!
Quite and invisible tiny mini computer. It's as if it's not even on my desk. Only way to know it is there is by the tiny little power light indicator which I must is kinda bright. Nice to have some located usbc connection on the front of the Mac mini. Power button is on the bottom in the back, but I almost never turn off and on my Mac's so it really not a deal. Plenty of ports on the back as well. Plenty of power for every day tasks and some photo, video and production work as well, especially for under a grand. M4 with 24gb RAM (unified memory) and 512gb storage is more than enough for none paid professional work and honestly even that to some degree with an additional external storage. Highly recommend!

DEAL...It's super small, fast, and I love all the USB-C ports.Instead of trading in my old M1 Mac mini ($200 trade), I kept it and connected it to my 70" 4K TV in the main room. It's nice to have it as a backup computer. Simply connect a wireless keyboard and ,ouse, and it's like having a huge computer in your family room. Connect the Apple CD/DVD drive to it and you can watch movies on it, replacing the old DVD player on your shelf.The fact that this has 16GB RAM as a base model at that price really is ... Others have said it, and I will echo most other reviewers. As a Mac (Apple) user since 1982, this is one of my favorite Macs of all. It is one of the best values, even at the base model. Some complain the 255GB isn’t enough but iCloud storage solves that issue, or an inexpensive external SSD. With the 16GB of RAM standard, combined with all specs, it is indeed one of the best Macs for most non-power user. And, with the M4 (and Pro version), the Mini encroaches into professional territory also. Love everything about it. Specs, size, and price.

If Apple ever ups the base amount at the same price point then it will become the undisputed best computer for $499/599 in the Apple ecosystem. Progress has been made, now the storage side needs up to par. It's still $60-100 for a good TB4 external enclosure, plus the cost of extra SSD stick.The 5 ports finally being standard is the second best change this time around.
