I'm writing this review on the Apple full-size wireless keyboard, connected to a new Mac Studio. I really appreciate the complete keyboard layout.Function keys are programmable using System Settings Keyboard.Typing is straightforward with a nice touch. As you would expect, this works perfectly with Macs. The non-skid pads on the bottom keep it in place. The battery lasts - well, maybe not forever, but a long time. Two things prevent it from getting five stars:1. You can't adjust the angle of the keyboard.2. The keyboard is not backlit, making it hard to see in dim rooms3. The key travel (depth) is limited. It would be nice if the key press was deeper. The secret feature is that, while this is wireless, there are times when a Mac won't boot that you need ... MoreI'm writing this review on the Apple full-size wireless keyboard, connected to a new Mac Studio. At the time of my purchase, the full-size was the only available option. I would have preferred a TKL option. It has a noticeable different type-feel compared to the keyboard on the 16" MacBook M1 Pro; the keys have a bit more "clack", and are shaped and spaced a little differently, especially the space bar -- having an almost round/sloped feel compared to the flatness of the macbook keyboard.Another feature I would have liked would be backlighting. This keyboard offers none, unfortunately. Although it does include touch-id and an outrageous battery life (I've charged the device twice now since purchase date), I don't think I would purchase another full-size version, and I'm now in the market for a more comfortable, shorter keyboard as my current desk setup isn't very spacious, leaving me constantly bumping the keyboard with my mouse.

I purchased this keyboard a year and a half ago with high hopes for a reliable and long-lasting device. However, my experience has been marred by a significant issue with left shift button. Over time, it seems to have dropped down, resulting in a complete lack of tactile feedback and a noticeable absence of the satisfying click that usually accompanies a key press. Considering the price point and the relatively short period since my purchase, I expected better durability, especially for such an essential key. Unfortunately, the decline in performance, particularly with the left shift button, has left me questioning the overall quality of this product. Pretty much what one expects from Apple, with the glaring lack of backlighting on the keyboard and the price being the only things that are not great.

The Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID is a game-changer. As someone who spends a lot of time typing, I can't describe the relief I felt when I got rid of my clunky old keyboard and switched to this sleek and elegant device. The most significant feature of this keyboard is undoubtedly the Touch ID. Overall I have found this keyboard to be very good for my purposes. It is certainly compact and light for a full function keyboard with number pad. Even though the keyboard is very light, small pads on the back make it very stable with no sliding around on the desk top. At my level of usage recharging the Magic Keyboard is required very infrequently. The number pad and Touch ID were the driving factors in my purchase because I never advanced beyond one finger, by sight use of linear number keys. I would actually grade this keyboard closer to but just short of 5 because (a) I find the alphabetic key placement to feel a little close, (b) I still like the more pronounced depressions on the Logitech keys but I am getting more accustomed to the Magic Keyboard, (c) ... MoreOverall I have found this keyboard to be very good for my purposes. I had to get a new keyboard that was Mac compatible out the box, and really hoped this was going to be worth the cost. It definitely has a much higher build quality than almost any other keyboard, including similarly priced gaming ones. And I love that it has Touch ID (which also works great, never had an issue). And it arguably has the fastest keystroke response time of any wireless keyboard I’ve ever tried. However, there are 2 cons that were just too big for me to keep it. First, the keyboard not only doesn’t have any height/angle adjustment, but the default is way too flat to type comfortably for extended periods of time. $30 keyboards have had this feature for decades. And second, I just can’t for the life of me understand why they would sell a keyboard - for $200 nonetheless - without giving it backlit keys. Even if you don’t sit in complete darkness, it’s still nice to have. And again, cheaper keyboards have this, and even let you change the brightness.Ultimately, these were just too annoying for me to continue using it for 50+ hours a week. I got the Logitech MX Keyboard for Mac, which is $80 cheaper. It’s not just less expensive, it’s also a better product. So I unfortunately will be returning this.
Like the magic mouse, the magic keyboard is the result of a form over function philosophy. I'm an IT manager at a small business and I've had a lot of experience with these and hear about a lot of end-user experiences. The good: Battery life, connectivity and responsiveness are all great with the magic keyboard, and unlike the magic mouse, you can actually charge this and use it at the same time. Keyboards aren't usually the easiest things to keep clean, but these are really easy to clean with a lightly misted microfiber cloth. The neutral: Some people like the ultra-low profile, flat keys and super short keystroke depth, and some people don't. I don't know anyone who uses a computer for more than a couple of hours a day who likes any of those features. If you're a prolific typist, these are pretty ergonomically terrible. Otherwise, you might like them, especially if you're used to using a laptop all the time. The bad: The fact that you can plug this keyboard in to your Mac to use it as a corded keyboard (and to charge it), means that few people ever actually unplug them from their iMac. Why they ever discontinued the less expensive corded version of this keyboard is beyond me.The low profile everything means thin, light, flimsy materials. A six-year old could grab these keyboards with two hands and easily twist them into a pretzel. Even if you keep your magic keyboard on a solid, flat surface while typing, you're going to feel quite a lot of flex to it. To put it bluntly, this keyboard feels cheap, like free keyboard you get with most budget PCs, except those keyboards actually sell for a tenth of the magic keyboard (or less). The tiny home row key feelers on the F and J keys to help tell you touch-type wear off within a few weeks. Likewise the lettering wears off relatively quickly, though not as quickly as the F/J feelers. The failure rate is high. I don't know what the MTBF keystroke rating is on these or if it even has one. I've never received a DOA magic keyboard, but on a regular basis I have to replace these because one or two keys have quit working. I have super cheap PC keyboards that have been around 10 years without an issue, but these last maybe 3-5 years of regular office use.
