You either know you can justify the price with the work you do, or not. I've read it's not as nice as the super-micro-OLED screens of the newest MBP laptops, but right next to one, I can't tell the difference. Do I want the even more expensive version? Yes, but that's ridiculously priced. Do I wish I had the articulating arm? Not really. For me I set a height of the monitor and generally keep it there.

EU import not Swiss version

Who is going to scroll down multiple times to check this information or even know what it means when reading “May include power adapter.” If the product is an EU import, it should be clearly stated on the title e.g. “EU import” and product description e.g “EU power plug.” It should not be written in such a sneaky way that it is clear it is has been written this way to meet “legal requirements” but completely obvious that it intends to mislead the purchaser.I complained about this issue. Obviously I opened the box, since I was unknowing that I had been mislead to purchase an EU import model and clearly had intended to use it. Hence, the return is accepted by Galaxus at a cost of Fr. 150 (10% of the purchase price). The proper Swiss version can be purchased from Media Markt for Fr. 50 extra (Fr. 1,550).Galaxus standards have dropped below my expectations of a Swiss company. If wanted products from EU, I will buy it myself. I don’t need Galaxus to send me EU imports when I’m expecting Swiss.

You'd either have to go with the cheaper but at-times problematic LG Ultrafine 27" 5K or the very expensive Pro Display XDR. Again for most people, they can probably get by with something like a 27" 4K monitor but if you're looking for a high-end experience, you're unfortunately going to have to pay a premium.

Expensive but high quality monitor

Pros: aesthetics, guaranteed apple integration, 5K resolution, built in speakers and high quality cameraCons: priceI transitioned from separate 27" iMac and MacBook air once those computers started to get old to a single MacBook pro with a monitor. First off, the monitor is expensive. You can easily get a simple monitor that works for 1000$ less. However, after comparing monitors that are more similar in feature set, the price is not that far off. For example, a Dell ultrahd 4k thunderbolt compatible monitor is actually more expensive as listed on the Dell website and the apple monitor is a 5k monitor. Aesthetically, it obviously blends in seamlessly with an apple laptop or mac mini if looks matter to you. Furthermore, when I purchased it, I knew integration with my laptop would be seamless. It has 3 usb c ports on the back that are basically extensions of my laptop so anything I plug in their interacts directly with my laptop OS without issues. Other monitors also have USB hubs built in. Would they work as seamlessly? I would guess they would, but I didn't want the frustration of finding out otherwise. It has built in high definition camera and a very nice speaker system if that is important to you. I plug in an external DAC and speakers so I don't use the speakers, but they do sound very good for built ins and reduces clutter on your desk if you don't want to use external speakers. In conclusion, if you want to maintain the apple aesthetic, want a very high definition monitor, and/or have need for the extra features it has then the monitor is worth the high price. If not, then there are cheaper options

I was a 5k retina iMac 2017 user before and was looking to update my setup to either MacBook or Mac mini with a monitor. I looked at several monitors as I really couldn’t justify the price tag of the Studio Display at first. But really this thing is in a class of its own and no other monitor comes close to matching the overall package here. First and foremost the screen is amazing and no other monitor comes close. I’m shocked that in 2023 that not many glossy monitors are available to begin with and none that are 5k. At a bare minimum I was looking for a glossy 4K screen and I didn’t want to buy any untested brand names that are through online only sales. Additionally I’m really happy with the build quality, the speakers are great which allows me to de-clutter my desk now and the webcam is just a bonus. Webcam is not the best, but it’ll do the job if want to declutter. I’m hoping to use this display for the next 10 years and based on all that I was able to justify the price tag and worth the price in my opinion.I do have to use it with a Window 10 work laptop however. The only limitation there is that I cannot control screen brightness which is rather annoying. Hoping a new FW update eventually will fix that Otherwise everything works perfectly.I also use it with my M1 iPad Pro and it works perfectly. So much so that I haven’t even bough a new MacBook or Mini as per my original idea. I’m actually happy with my iPad Pro + Studio display setup for now.

I've specifically targeted and purchased monitors that meet the specs I need for editing, and I CANNOT tell you exactly how many monitors I've gone through over even over the last 5 years, but it's maybe close to 2 per year. I've purchased the 28" & 32" versions of Sony's 4K monitors from Best Buy as well -- attempted to calibrate them, but the color just would not stick... Anyway, my birthday was the following day & Best Buy had one in stock -- so I bit the bullet and made this purchase.I had slight buyer's remorse for the first week, but it quickly faded. The display fits perfectly next to my iMac and seriously ties the aesthetic together in my office compared to having a monitor of a different brand, primarily being housed in black plastic, inconvenient controls, unmatching color profiles, having to manually adjust the monitor settings separately, etc...If you decide to get one, you'll probably laugh at the ginormous, clever yet simple, and protective packaging that this thing comes in. But I think that you'll love the quality and aesthetic of this thing. It was weirdly relieving having a monitor where I'm able to control the monitor settings via my Macs -- and more especially, having matching color profiles where both my iMac (or even my MacBook Pro M1Pro) and Studio Display have 100% matching colors on screen which speeds up my workflows. Not sure why people are complaining about the camera (I suppose it could be better this day in age, but image quality is great with the lighting I have in my office, and with Apple's Center Stage - people surprisingly trip out and give positive comments while I'm in Zoom meetings. Sound quality is fantastic and pairs very well with the homepods in the room. I ended up giving away the iMac to someone who needed a computer for college, so I now use the display solely with my MacBook Pro -- and having the USB-C/Thunderbolt4 ports comes in clutch by having the display also be a hub. Oh -- need I say that you literally just need the one Thunderbolt cable connected to the MacBook to connect the display, power the MacBook, as well as having access to whatever USB-C peripherals (I have 3 SSDs connected) you want connected. Almost forgot -- controllable Night Shift mode and even screen brightness via your Mac/keyboard -- YUUUSSSSSS!!!This display is NOT for everyone and is obviously not a necessity. However, it's a beautiful monitor that you can tell will last for well over 5+ years of monitor swapping -- so in that sense, it is worth the investment, at least for me.Lastly, if you're going to drop this amount of money on this display, just get some reassurance and get Apple Care. I purchased the $50 annual plan since it'll last until you decide to cancel it and is worth having for something like this.

Superb High 5k resolution

It was time to replace my 6 year old iMac 27. I kept waiting for a new 27" iMac to be released but it appears that Apple has decided to not make them any longer, instead moving towards Mac Studios. I decided that I just needed to accept that and ordered a new Mac Studio M2 MAX from the Apple Store. Not a review but BH Photo had the Apple Studio Display for $150 less than the Apple Store and using my PayBoo Card I saved on the sales tax, so my savings were over $200.00.I think I made the right decision. Exceptional accuracy without any calibration! The sound is also impressive, with its Six-speaker system with force-cancelling woofers, so good that I disconnected my old HK SoundSticks/Sub Woofer. The three-mic array is Studio Quality. My home office lighting is very neutral so I didn't need to go for the Nano Glass upgrade, The standard glass is already engineered for extremely low reflectivity. As for the Stand, the Standard Tilt only stand was fine for my needs and it's absurd what Apple want to charge for their Tilt and Height Adjustable Stand.Overall this Apple Studio Display is a major improvement over my aging 27" iMac Retina. Worth a bit of what a spent!!!

Works Perfectly with Macs. Windows PC Use Frustrating
9 January 2023

Coming from a late 2015 5K iMac, I basically knew what to expect from the Apple Studio Display. It looks good, has excellent color accuracy for my photo and video needs, has excellent build quality, and with my Macbook Pro it is basically plug and play. Perfect operation for the past few weeks with the MBP. I also have a mid-range gaming PC with a GC Titan Ridge PCI-E Thunderbolt card installed (intended for use with this monitor), and it works with webcam, speakers, and microphone, but only from a fresh boot. The Apple Studio Display will only pick up the Windows PC from fresh boot or waking from sleep. If I hot swap the cable or use a monitor switcher to move over to the PC input while it is powered on but without a distinct boot or wake-up event, the Apple Studio ... MoreComing from a late 2015 5K iMac, I basically knew what to expect from the Apple Studio Display. If I hot swap the cable or use a monitor switcher to move over to the PC input while it is powered on but without a distinct boot or wake-up event, the Apple Studio Display will not see it. When waking from sleep, the Apple Studio Display loses the peripheral functions, despite booting with the speakers and webcam. I am 90% an Apple user, so I can deal with these minor inconveniences, as the PC will only get occasional, recreational use. The inability of this monitor to function properly with any Thunderbolt input is extremely frustrating, and pretty typical of the Apple design paradigm. Apple needs to update the firmware on this thing to make it easier to use with any Thunderbolt / USB-C display compatible device.
