Apple Watch with useful features for a senior
I bought this watch for a senior for Mother's Day. I was interested in the fall detection, emergency call option, and cell phone features in case she needed to call family. She has an iPhone but does not always have it with her. I didn't care for the band, so I bought her a nicer style. The biggest challenge is the instruction book, which is almost 400 pages long. I wish there were a non-technical senior version in large print that walks a senior through the basic steps of the most common features they would use. Using Siri or non-Siri to operate. I think she is confused about how to use the watch, and I will need to keep working with her to feel comfortable using it. It would be hellpful to have a basic Apple Watch video guide for seniors. I printed out pages that I think would apply to her uses, and placed in a binder. Older folks like hard copies to read and make notes on.There are so many features and compilations, that it can be overwhelming, and I am concerned she won't wear the watch regularly. But hopefully she will be able to use it if she needs to, and finds the call features useful.... Show more

Disappointed.
I was looking for a solution to replace my old walkman and wired headset when at the gym, plus benefit the extra features of an I phone versus just a walkman. I was sadly dispappointed. -You have to text by writing with your finger! Lacking a keyboard function, the text function does not allow all numbers and digits ie. if you write a number 1 it becomes a capital L. You would need a finger as thin as a toothpick to even fully capture simple letters or numbers clearly. As a result of this glitch, I had trouble verifying my Apple ID password many times, and was locked out, until I simply gave up and returned it. Keep in mind you might not want this to happen should you ever need to sign in to use the heart rate app or other health apps. There is a keyboard function ... There is a keyboard function on more expensive models. It woudl be great if more websites mentioned this feature.-Sound Quality and Volume Settings: no problem with the sound quality at all, but operating and controlling the sound quality was complicated when paired with headsets or ear bud devices. At one point, the music app had no sound. The headset was paired well and working fine, but it took 2 hours with technical support to locate and control the option on the watch. In an ideal world it would be great to see an actual button on the watch that would seamlessly set up volume control to make it more user friendly across many ear devices rather than leaving us to figure out how each ear device works with the watch. In fact, I’m convinced most ear devices will and are working very well with the watch-if not for the difficulties that seem more to exist on the watch itself!-Support-I must have had discussions by phone with tech support at least 4-5 times in the first 24 hours of owning this device, unresolved for what would be simple solutions on other devices. I felt the support was not to blame-there seemed to be very little resources to turn to for troubleshooting. We need more specialized support for the Apple Watch.-Cellular functions-there is no internet or live streaming unless you pay a jump in price for cellular data and in most cases, have your Iphone in view or near you. In other words, I’m finding I depend on most part on the use of the I phone to pair with the watch. Wish Apple could create one integrative internet radio app that synchronizes well with your other devices rather than have to download new ones nor carry your I Phone as the centrl command station. The hope would be to wear most of what you need in your ear and wrist only, with no extra third devices needed at all!-also be aware of extra costs if you should order the watch directly from Apple. For example, on the Apple website, the price shown is the base price for the watch face itself. You will need to purchase a USB- C 20 watt power adapter separately for about 28.00. The watchband is an extra cost of about 50.00 minimum. If you decide to add a cellular option that is supposed to allow functions like texting without having to keep your I phone nearby, ( I have not used that to verify) but be prepared for approximately an extra 100.00 to add cellular, as well as adding to the weight of the watch on your wrist. So for me that was about an extra 180.00 Canadian in total. Add earbuds-that is another 100-200.00. In a nutshell-the cost does not justify the limits of the watch in my opinion. But I am giving 3 stars for the Pros which are:-it has a very large watch face for easily keeping track of time while also allowing downloads of your I tunes and other multi features like picking up a message or emergency SOS.-excellent compatibility with pairing ear bud products Apple or not Apple-just that once paired you can run into complicated steps finding out how to use them with the watch.-first time set up of the watch was quick and seamless-font is very easy to read for things like your mail-I recommend the 44 or 45 mm over the 40 mm watch face option which gives a larger watch face with larger font. I was in store today to try on the 45mm without cellular and it is very light on your wrist.Overall conclusion: I was very impressed with the many choices and options that come on the watch, as well as ordering from Apple if you don’t mind an extra cost for options. But, overall, I feel like it's a watch trying to be a micro version of an I phone, with all and everything added but the kitchen sink. Putting it another way, think of the watch as moving into a newly constructed building that looks beautiful from the outside, and inside all the features are there. But once putting in some time living in it, somehow the infrastructure is missing. Mostly, the watch lacks the thinking outside the box troubleshooting solutions and resources that I have found are an integral feature of my other Apple products. I am someone who is very user friendly on all my many Apple products, but never a problem with a new device like I had with this. I also give an extra star to tech support for their time and patience. I just could not help but think that Apple needs more specialized support for the Watch only. Clearly the majority of reviews are very positive, so it's possible that the device just didn't suit my needs. I'd love to see Apple design a Bluetooth IPod that focuses on less of the bells and whistles, and just does music and live radio access really well for maybe a slight fraction of the cost of these watches. Regardless of my disappointment with the watch and lack of support, I'm also giving the 3 stars for the exemplary service Apple is famous for for delivering and standing behind their products including 2 hour delivery by Uber for a flat 13.00!... Switching from another smart device, I bought this SE 2nd gen Apple Watch to match with my phones. I’m sorry to say I had greater expectations and this experience has taught me to keep looking for a better smart watch. The thing is, this watch isn’t as smart as I need it to be, especially in the sleep area. It doesn’t automatically record when you’re sleeping, you have to block out time, or schedule when you’ll be sleeping and forget it recording your nap time-that’s not happening. All of this is a problem for me because of my schedule. However, there might be an app I can buy to compensate for that inefficiency. I just have to research and ask others. Likewise, there are times when the pass code just won’t enter. I literally have to hold the number for countless seconds until it records on the screen. I just don’t have time to babysit a so-called smart watch. Thankfully, I learned how to switch to low battery mode otherwise I was charging this watch every single day, right before bed. But it’s cute and I like the band. Can’t wait to buy some cuter bands to switch out for dressier occasions. It’s good enough for the time being. I got a deal, so I won’t complain too loudly. When it dies, I’ll quickly replace it with something more efficient.... Show more

Great replacement for older model
Love that it is so much lighter than my old series 6. According to some Apple, it has better gyroscopes for more accurate fall detection, and’s offers the crash detection that my 6 didn’t. It Doesn’t do the blood oxygen or EKG, but we rarely used them on the old one. It also Doesn’t have the always on display, but we always kept that off to save battery. The battery will last 2 days if needed. The Velcro band is easier to put on than having to buckle a leather band or snap the rubbery band. We’d still have the series 6 except trying to unbuckle the leather band caused it to be dropped 3 feet, and it broke the screen.Switching watches was super easy on my partner’s phone, although the whole process took 45 minutes with the update to Watch OS 10. But all the settings transferred, even that he wears it on his right arm and it is upside down with the knob on the lower left.I could have gotten it for the same price, but no sales tax, but bought it through Walmart for the Allstate insurance plan. Hopefully, we won’t need it.... Show more

Great safety features for kids
I purchased this watch for my kid who needs to contact me after school. I chose an Apple Watch over the option of a cell phone because I’m not comfortable with the many safety risks that may occur with a smart phone in the hands of a child even with all of the safety features turned on. The safety features for kids specifically with an Apple Watch vs an iPhone are really great if you create an Apple ID for your child, chose the option to set it up for someone else, and adjust all of the features to the highest protections possible. My kid is only able to send/receive calls and texts from approved contacts, has a school time feature enabled with time parameters of my choosing, the option to set downtimes for sleep at night, and the ability to totally restrict apps ... So far so good. I purchased Apple Care rather than Walmart’s protection plan. I do wish more band colors were available through Walmart but I have already replaced the band to one that fits my kid better.... Show more

It’s ok.
So I purchased the Apple Watch SE 2nd Gen for $189 $16 protection plan. I wanna like this watch but quite frankly, the battery life is HORRIBLE! I can fully charge it overnight and by 4 pm it’s “dead”. I like the features. It comes with everything I want/need, and a few other things. My previous watch was a Mingdaln for $23, but really it’s not the much of an upgrade.A few things you should be aware of are: Short battery life. The wireless charging pad (included) is not a regular usb plug in. It’s a C plug in. There is no keyboard when responding to texts, it uses speech to text. It paired with my phone (iPhone 13 pro max) fairly quickly. I’m still getting used to navigating it.Do I believe it’s worth the hype and the price? Meh! My $23 smart watch had better ... New Apple smart watch
Previously I have used Fitbit but decided on a change. I already have an iPhone/ 2 iPads and 2 I iMacs so an obvious route to go.I bought the cheapest one as could not afford to pay for the pricier models. Arrive well packed. Seamless to sync with my iPhone where I have the Apple watch app installed. It took awhile to get used to it as I was a user of amother well known brand. Now okay. So I go swimming in my local pool with no issues and just dry the watch when changing. There is a feature to eject water from the watch but I cannot see any water when using it. I also use a feature that activates when you wash your hands to time for optimum hand washing cleaning. The battery life is not as good as some other brands but I made a conscious decision not to wear it ... Be aware that if you keep Bluetooth enabled on your iPhone then, incoming calls will go straight through to the watch. I have used the feature but find it strange answering calls this way. Texts and emails are notified on the watch if you enable these features which I have done.So worth buying if you already use an iPhone.... Show more

The gift that keeps giving
I was given the Apple Watch for a milestone birthday gift. Originally, apart from wanting a new timepiece, I wanted to be able to answer my mobile without having to run into another room to find it. However, I'm still discovering just how much more the Apple Watch offers - from sending and receiving messages to keeping up your fitness levels - it can even remind you to move if you've been still for too long. The list goes on and I haven't explored it all yet. The options can be turned off if you don't want to be reminded to stand up. It's a little larger than a conventional watch but it's surprisingly light and comfortable to wear. The strap is easy to fasten and it's changeable if you want a different style.
