Decent light. Good build.Light quality is good, shape weirded me out at first, but it's not noticeable in any of our footage. I wish I had more access to controls without needing the app, but I understand.I'd also love a cheaper version that didn't have the built in battery and DC features. Just a reliable RGBWW light that I can put into a lamp. Less earth resources to build, but just limited to being plugged in.This is the first small light from Aputure that has a case that isn't useless. A bag to protect the bulb is a nice touch.

Allow me to preface this review by stating that "I LOVE these bulbs!" BUT!!! This is in my POV a premium company and I expect nothing but the best and flawless quality and QC from a company like this. These bulbs are amazing and I can't help but continue to buy more and more of their amazing lights. My first light I bought has been found to be defective/faulty and guess what. It's past the 30 day return policy and B&H won't allow a return or exchange of this defective item they have sold me from this premium company. Yikes! The issue I'm having compared to the same bulbs I've bought but brand new, is that it is very dim and has a stepping/stuttering issue when dimmed. I can only hope that with all the money I've spent on buying the same bulb, I'm hoping this doesn't ... MoreAllow me to preface this review by stating that "I LOVE these bulbs!" BUT!!! I am actually hoping that someone from either B&H or Aputure reaches out to me about this and offers a replacement in exchange for the defective one I've been sold/given.

Typically, these lights are relegated to replacing incandescent bulbs in table lamps that dot a scene. The cool thing is that they are totally adjustable and can be operated with their batteries. No correction gel, no cables to hide, no inline dimmers needed.I've use them for campy effects on cue through the Sidus Link App and the Color Picker tool works great with these lights to do things like matching a client's branded product color.Great price, too!

I figured since i'm already knee deep into the Aputure ecosystem i might as well pick a few of these up. The brightness is good, the color capabilities are great, but unfortunately that's about where the good news ends.Right off the bat I realized that if I wanted to use them on battery power I didn't have a practical way to charge them. Installing them in an existing house fixture to charge them is a pain, especially since most of my lamps use smaller bases, and the E26 ones are all hanging from the ceiling.I decided to 'permanently' install two of them over my kitchen table. Screwed them in, turned on the switch, and there was light. Eventually. These lights have two modes. An AC mode that makes them operate like traditional lights on a switch, and a DC mode ... Screwed them in, turned on the switch, and there was light. Eventually. These lights have two modes. An AC mode that makes them operate like traditional lights on a switch, and a DC mode that runs off the internal battery when the light switch is turned off (or it's not plugged in). Aputure claims the AC mode allows for 'natural interactions with actors', but when I hit the switch there's a solid 2-3 second delay before the light turns on. It's disappointing enough in normal home use, I can't imagine it's at all usable on a set.I got these primarily to use as fun RGB house lights because I already had several Aputure MCs (that I love) and thought the connectivity and color features would be beneficial. There are many cheaper alternatives for that use case so I can't recommend these for that. I also can't recommend them for professional use unless they fix the AC activation delay.
Works great and is a very smart tool--there are only 2 downsides. first the bulb is quite large, I realize this is necessary for the internal battery, but it won't fit in a lot of old lamps. Second, you really need the charging case if you plan on using it without having the lamp plugged in, which raises the cost significantly. It gets very hot to the touch after being on for a while, in my experience. All that said, it's very useful, and better than the competition in design.
I'm an independent filmmaker specializing in the horror genre so having the ability to have multiple color pallets on hand is necessary for me. I already own three (soon to be four) of the Aputure MC's which I LOVE!But the B7 I just down. They aren't as bright as the MC and you need several of them to really be able to use them in the order they were intended to be used. For the price, you could but four of the GE or GOVEE color bulbs. So while the IDEA of the B7c is cool and fun, they are not as useful as the MC; the controls air clunky even while using the SIDIUS link and the light output is rather mediocre.I would return this if it wasn't too much trouble to return at this point. Save your money and get an MC or spring for the 7 bulb kit.
It's impossible to know if they're charged. If they just put a USB-C charger on them it would be much easier. They need to be in a certain mode to charge in a lamp. Not practical. The app works with them but a few times it has failed to recognize them. When it does work the sidus link app is great. I honestly would rather just tape a MC light in a fixture. The light only spills upward too so I'm gaf taping it to flag it sometimes. Also the threads bend easy. They're a weak material. I couldn't thread it into a bulb and actually chiseled into it with a house key to make it work. This bulb with stronger threads and a usb_c charger would be a slam dunk. Also adding a bit more light through the bottom so its not all sideways and upward light. I just bought another MC to ... MoreIt's impossible to know if they're charged. I initially picked up two bulbs to have a play with them, and now I’m adding 2 more before the 8 kit comes out!I don’t have previous experience with any of the Aputure RGBWW fixtures (like the MCs, Nova etc) so this was a joy to discover. The B7c is like a Nova and a ceiling light had a love child.I especially love the sidus link control over it. It’s the reason I keep buying Aputure products. The whole wireless control is amazing. I found it had great range (I used it outdoors) and I appreciated the app gave me feedback on how much time was left on the battery of these units. Notable control effects include: colour picker, fire, faulty bulb, manual and console control with the iPad version of the app.The unit is heavier than expected. But it has a battery. It’s ... It’s a lot brighter than you’d expect for its size and “only 7w” it took Aputure over 2 years to actually bring this into the wild and it was time well spent.I’d reach for this over the MC when I want a more 360’ light spread or want to hang it down from things. The layout, functionality and power makes it, imho, an essential lighting tool for creating ambient and control over the ambient environment. I do wish it had a usb-c charge port on the side of it vs using a e26-e27 mount to charge it but the Godox Lh-01 or similar is handy. Also the buttons can be tricky to change settings with their combinations but they are updating it to a simpler system with firmware soon.
As others have noted, the 3 button interface is a bit wonky, and instructions printed in white on the silver base are difficult to read (hey Aputure, ever consider black ink?).For many of us, this light will work for it's intended use, as a color accurate/controllable light in practical lamps on set. I always find the need to dim down practical lamps on set, and being able to do this with the (albeit finicky) Sidius app is great.Charging the battery should be a bit easier, but once charged I think the battery life is acceptable. The AC/DC option is also nice, but again, you have to remember cryptic button presses to get there. The most obvious design issue is that the light patter is mostly upwards, which is NOT what you typically see with practical table ... I'm sure they were aware of this during the design process, but must have come to the conclusion that there had to be compromises (cooling, battery, or other) that forced the design to end up as it did. Regardless, I will put this to use as it is.Aputure has made second generation versions of other products, so hopefully they will do the same with this one. The alternate product from Nanlight doesn't offer compelling reasons for me to choose that over the B7c. So, while not perfect, I expect the B7c will get a lot of use from me.
