Overall, this is probably the best helmet in this category. I am actually thinking of picking up a second in the Hi-Viz Yellow color I like this Vision Frost Red so much.

Quality and finish are spot onI first tried a Klim Krios Pro as I was attracted to the modern features like the novel and functional chin strap. I hated to say goodbye to those cutting edge features, but the fit wasn't right for my head shape. I have a long- intermediate head shape and the Krios Pro was just too round to fit me comfortably. I took advantage of Rocky Mountains easy exchange policy (don't ride your bike with it) and fell in love with the fit and finish of the Arai XD-4. Thanks for reading my honest review. I hope it helps someone else make their right choice at Rocky Mountain ATV/MC.

The helmet clamp comes uncomfortably close to your faces you put the helmet on and feels like the little clamp bolts will gouge your forehead and side of your face. The helmet noise while riding is not so bad you cannot listen to music with a bluetooth set up installed. The Sena I am using is more than clear and loud to do so.Visibility-The XD4 has awesome visibility. The shield opening is adequate enough to use motocross googles and still close the face shield completely shut, I use the "100%" Acuri goggles and they fit inside the opening without issues. The Peak Visor is really nice when riding into the sun, provides plenty of shade and offers a small bit of adjustable on the fly by pushing up or down on it, friction fit holds it in place, no need for loosening any thing to adjust.I really like this helmet a lot, so much that I am thinking of picking up a second one in the Hi-Viz solid color.

It fits my head really nice and the feel of it is really comfortable. I heard the strap does feel a bit awkward to loop through, but it is good quality and feel very secure on me. Luckily I did not have to get another foam piece or anything as it fit me right out of the box. There is a bit of wind noise, but I know it is due to the beak. all ADV helmets I have owned in the past have this issue. But I like the beak for the sun and extra protection from root or rain if you just tilt your head down. I can safely say I will be putting this helmet through the paces as I commute every day so at least 5 times a week 60 miles a day. Absolutely loved this helmet. Wore it for about 4500 miles. Great airflow, super comfortable, quality second to none. Crash tested it after hitting a deer at 45mph and going down hard on my left side. Helmet completely protected my head as I slid face down head first up the road. The visor broke off and didn't jerk my neck as well as one of the vents. I walked away with zero head injuries because of this helmet. Just a fractured wrist and pelvis. Thank you for potentially saving my life Arai.

I guess I have an Arai head. This one fits me perfectly. No pressure points, no excess movement while on the bike. Pretty large view port...allows for good periperhal vision in traffic. Visor doesn't seem overly affected by wind....I might notice it more if more of my riding was on the interstate. I swapped in a dark tint visor. Swapping visors is not that hard, but it takes a little time. Try not to do it on the road...you might lose the small parts. I really like that the interior pads all come out for cleaning. I'm not sure how to best care for the Matte/Frost finish. It's expensive, but worth it I think.

Not sure how much sun it shades from my face and it does drag a little in certain situations at highway speeds. Would say its good for this style of helmet and maybe more functional for dual sport riding.The fit of the helmet is interesting. I have round oval head so the CT-Z and Neotec fit me very well. The XD-4 seems more round than what I was expecting. I’m between an XL and 2XL in Arai helmets so I go with the larger size. The XD-4 fits me just about right front to back but the sides are definitely a little looser fitting. Judging by the way my helmet fits I’d say this is better for people with rounder heads. Wasn’t expecting this according to reviews. The cheekpads are snug but not nearly as much as the RX-Q. The padding around the bottom of the helmet around the back of my head was noticeably firmer than my other Arai helmets. As the helmet is breaking in it feels very comfortable. The material and finish quality are just so high I really love Arai helmets!

Fit my head like a glove - without excessive pressure on any points. While riding, it doesn't seem to be something I think about, which is exactly what I want. It's like it isn't there. However, with the venting of the helmet, fogging doesn't seem to be a problem so far.

The one real reason I bought a dual sport helmet was the bill. Normally with my shoei 1200 i have a smoke visor and sunglasses for bright day riding. I was worried about a dark visor in case we did some night riding, the bill shades the clear visor perfect and I never felt like it was too bright. Also I did not notice any drag at speeds up to 70 even turning my head around. I was really surprised at +90/mph if I kept my head straight the helmet was very aerodynamic and did not have that much pressure on my head. the big surprise was the bill; no vibration, no chatter, just smooth. Arai did their homework on this. weight is always an issue and this helmet is not the lightest on the market (Klim has a carbon fiber helmet, but the fit was way off and venting was really bad) but the XD4 was still lighter than other helmets out there. While installing the Sena, one very nice touch are all of the removable pads and customization that can be done. I left mine stock, as it fits really good out of the box. Overall the helmet feels good.Cons: the visor cannot be opened just a little, due to the shape of the visor it lines up with your line of site, which is kind of annoying. You get used to all open or closed. This could be fixed by Aria by adding a notch to the visor screw. At speed or with wind the Sena has static due to no closure panel at the chin. Also the Sena is mounted further back because of the wide opening. This isn't really a complaint about the helemt, but if you plan on using a Sena be aware of the expectations.Overall: Yes this is an expensive helmet. I feel like my head is worth it and I'm willing to shell out a little extra. I think back to the Bell helmet slogan "if you have a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet." Speaking of other helemts, I tried on a lot of helmets for fit and Aria nailed it just right for me. After putting on a few thousand miles so far with this helmet, I'm happy with my choice.
