Arai XD-4 Helmet - Africa Twin - XS
FCS cheek pads design delivers comfort and support and features 5 mm peel-away custom-fit layer. Offers three distinct configurations depending on rider preference or riding conditions; change the look every time you ride - or even during the same ride. Peel-away side/temple crown pads give the option of 10 mm more interior width if needed. High-flow peak reduces drag at highway speeds and helps direct air into upper intake vents for improved internal ventilation. Fully removable, replaceable and washable interior that keeps you drier and cooler for greater long-haul comfort. Features intermediate oval shape which fits the majority of head shapes in the North American markets. Chin vent has more intake ports for improved airflow. Larger, sculpted vents improve ventilation efficiency as well as helmet stability on your head at speed. Using the eyeport to improve ventilation, avoiding additional holes in the critical forehead, the brow vent in the faceshield improves rider comfort while maintaining shell integrity and impact energy management performance. Emergency cheek pads release system developed to allow easier access to an injured rider via integrated pull-tabs built into the underside of the cheek pad. Brow vents in faceshield provide airflow to the temple area of the head.

Great fit for my head shape. The helmet has great ventilation. I have installed a Sena Bluetooth headset, the material in the ear pockets in the helmet don't allow the Sena speakers velcro to stick. Still working on a solution.

I own a 2018 Africa Twin, and haven't had the money to buy a helmet of this quality. The paint is awesome, matches the bike dead on. The helmet fits great after wearing it for hours it is starting to be more comfortable. Retuned first one, had to go one size larger than sizing chart showed. The vents work excellent, the shield is optically great, and it will open just a bit and stay to defog. Anyone wanting this type helmet I recommend watching sizing videos, showing the different options with the liners inside. Helmets too nice to drop.

Fits true to size. Has a huge field of vision, with vents on vents. Build quality is unbelievable. The paint is flawless. A bit on the heavier side, but it?s worth it for safety and comfort! Would buy again, and again. Lol

While I bought the Honda model to go with my Honda CRF250L Rally. The closest price of this newer mode was a good deal. This helmet has except cooling which is critical ride my bike in the Florida heat. I initially bought a large and had trouble getting it off. The XL works much better. This helmet has so many cooling vents I am now looking at the street model for my ride bike.
I recently purchased the Matte White/Black/Gray Frost XD4 Vision Helmet. It’s my second XD4. The first one the plastic doohickeys that fasten the visor/face shield on the sides of the helmet crumbled away and the helmet became useless. This one has 1000 miles on it and the same thing has happened. It still works for now but I imagine things will deteriorate. I don’t understand why Arai hasn’t dealt with this. I feel like an idiot having bought a second one. Very disappointed having spent over $700.00.
Loving the helmet so far. Very comfortable, matches the paint of the bike perfectly and I?m happy knowing it?s a safe and well-tested helmet.
I guess I have an Arai head. This one fits me perfectly. No pressure points, no excess movement while on the bike. Pretty large view port...allows for good periperhal vision in traffic. Visor doesn't seem overly affected by wind....I might notice it more if more of my riding was on the interstate. I swapped in a dark tint visor. Swapping visors is not that hard, but it takes a little time. Try not to do it on the road...you might lose the small parts. I really like that the interior pads all come out for cleaning. I'm not sure how to best care for the Matte/Frost finish. It's expensive, but worth it I think.
Extremely nice helmet, great cross between the looks of a motocross helmet, with the comfort of a road full face
A couple of caveats to start this off: my main helmet is Schuberth C4 so most of the comparisons are against that. My Africa Twin has pretty good front wind protection so take that into consideration for any I say related to noise.I bought this helmet initially to help cope with 90+ degree weather and because I'm a sucker for the 30th Anniversary Africa Twin paint job. So with that in mind my expectations about the performance in terms of the comfort weren't particularly high and I was preparing to deal with it just to have this beautiful helmet.Turns out I had no reasons to be worried. The performance of the peak in the air stream has been spectacular. Occasionally a side gust grabs it and the torque is a bit stronger than a non peaked helmet but it isn't ... MoreA couple of caveats to start this off: my main helmet is Schuberth C4 so most of the comparisons are against that. So with that in mind my expectations about the performance in terms of the comfort weren't particularly high and I was preparing to deal with it just to have this beautiful helmet.Turns out I had no reasons to be worried. The performance of the peak in the air stream has been spectacular. Occasionally a side gust grabs it and the torque is a bit stronger than a non peaked helmet but it isn't crazy. I've worn it through 40-50+ mph gusts of wind and it isn't really any worse than my other helmets. The noise is also a lot better than I expected. Behind my wind screen wind noise is non existent below 60 mph and perfectly tolerable in the 70-80 mph range. So basically average, but given how bad it could have been is they had messed up the peak design average is pretty impressive. No squeaks, squeals, or other bothersome detractors. The airflow on this is great almost too great. When the temperature drops even with all the vents closed there still manages to be a breeze sneaking in. When the air temp gets below 65 degrees wearing it it's a legit cold experience. One thing to note is that the face shield is a compound curve that has a dramatically smaller radius in the bottom than the top. This creates a little bit of additional weirdness for my polarized prescription sunglasses than just the normal rainbow patterns. There's a spatial distortion that your brain has to get used to the first time you encounter it but after that it's fine. All in all I love it so far and it's my go to summer helmet. I'll be sticking with the Schuberth for my winter riding though.
From the moment I opened the box I knew the reputation of Arai helmets was worth the money. The paint and finish is perfect. The colors are bright and deep. The lines are crisp and clean.Once I put the helmet on it fit better than. Any helmet I have worn. It was evenly snug with no pressure points. As I opened the shield, I had my radio playing and when I closed the shield the sound of the radio was noticeably reduced. All of the venting controls are easy to operate while wearing the helmet. The small details like adding a matte black area on the underside of the visor to reduce glare shows the attention to detail on this helmet.
