I bought this jacket some time ago and I love how packable and light the jacket is. I had no issues when I washed the jacket and followed the care instructions carefully. After
washing the jacket is looks like new and always keeps me dry! I love wearing it when I go hiking or just outside for a walk. I love that the collar is protecting you from the wind
as well and the hood is adjustable. The zippers are watertight and the jacket has not disappointed me yet! Super reliable and durable.

My arms are shorter than most Id say but it wasn’t a problem with the Velcro’s at the wrist. I put the jacket overtop of the mitten and Velcro’ed it around the wrists for a nice seal. Can’t complain about the Beta AR. I have it in a blue - looks good with black pants. Overall very versatile and stylish... Show more

I was more shocked as the beta AR is described, as being great for all round purposes, which it’s being used in such a manner, and also the jacket is sold as made with goretex pro “most durable” material. So this is something to take note of if you’re looking to purchase this product. In any case, I wasn’t looking for a warranty, as I love the jacket, but was more seeing if there was a way to patch or reinforce the area, even if I had to pay for it. So I was surprised when the only thing they would offer was tape, which was unexpected as I have had various other previous shells repaired via patching by Arc’teryx. Apparently there is a new policy where they will no longer re patch shells and only offer tape? However, even more disheartening was how quick they were to send me off to a local repair shop. This leads me to question how much faith they currently put in their own products, and how much they will actually repair a product. If there is already a third-party ready to repair, I unfortunately do not sense a great future for the repairability of shell jackets by Arc’teryx going forward. It seems like the only repair they are willing to offer for a shell jacket is tenacious tape. I’ve had amazing service with arcteryx the past couple of years, having owned a Beta LT, an alpha LT, and many other shells. It seems the company has changed substantially, and the way they stand behind the product has also changed. If you’re looking for a great looking shell jacket to wear around town in the rain, this could be it. It feels much more sturdy than the regular beta. The zipper feels great, (I found the current regular beta jacket zippers cheap feeling), and the fit is amazing. It is also great for layering, as long as you don’t layer with hoods. However, if you are contemplating doing even the slightest bit of outdoor activity, which requires wearing a backpack, or carrying anything, I would strongly advise you to avoid this jacket. It’s simply not durable, and you will end up in my position where I am going to have to repair a 2 week old jacket myself. You can look into maybe a used Beta SV, which I understand is made with tougher material. Let’s hope my case was just a bad experience, but I am now looking to support other companies, which stand behind the product, and are willing to do proper repairs, even if it is for a price. I hope this is just a one off bad experience as I love the dead bird, but I have to say, the overall experience has left me with little confidence.... Show more

I expect better arcteryx!
30 January 2024
I bought this jacket as a waterproof, windproof outdoor jacket. For $700...you think it could perform as well as a garbage bag. I found this jacket soaked right through. You can buy way cheaper rain jackets that perform just as well.. I have bought 2 cerium puffer jacket, an insulated ski coat and a long parka too. I have invested heavily in arcteryx and I expect better for the money paid. I have written to arcteryx customer service and depending on the outcome, I will revise my experience. These products should perform. Period. No excuses, no special products to maintain. As a said, a garbage bag performs better only is not breathable and doesn't look as good.... Show more

Incredible shell... and best when paired w jacket
30 November 2022
I live in Ohio. Friends and I are ultrarunners, which means that we for some reason enjoy training for and racing (running) long distances such as 100 miles mostly in the woods/on trails. We are outside almost daily, year round. I decided this is the year that I'm going to buy some good gear and therefore NOT be cold in winter.A friend told me about Arcteryx, and after some research online it was clear that this is a superior brand.I read (on the Arcteryx web site) about their best recommendation for staying warm during activity: you buy one of the Arcteryx jackets, usually one of the insulated ones, which provides the warmth. You then buy a second "jacket" which is really the outer shell, and this provides the waterproof and windproof elements. So, in October ... MoreI live in Ohio. You then buy a second "jacket" which is really the outer shell, and this provides the waterproof and windproof elements. So, in October I bought jacket #1: the Arcteryx "Atom Hoody W," size small. This jacket utilizes synthetic insulation. I went to an REI to try it on and luckily they had one in my size. From the minute I picked it up, you could tell that the "buttery" - feeling fabric was superior. Perfect fit. Warm when used as a standalone jacket. First time I wore it was in 28 degrees in the middle of the night during the Indiana Trail 100 (mile endurance run) later in the month, and it kept me warm. It worked. Loved this. But now this month, to the point of my review............................ I have purchased jacket #2: the Arcteryx "Beta AR Jacket W," also size small after reading about the fit. I ordered it from an REI store as there was not one in stock (which is fine). It was shipped (free for members) to the house. I was so nervous to take it out of the packaging... right away I could feel that this fabric is no joke. As some others have said, the fabric is very... firm... it's not soft... it makes a bit of a crinkling sound... but this type of (Gore-Tex) fabric is what gives you the windproof and waterproof elements. This shell looks so well made.So the fit... I was nervous about ordering another small, since I wasn't sure if my Atom Hoody would fit comfortably underneath. But!... the fit is perfect. What I mean by this is that as some have said, a size small, for example, is not that "small" ... meaning 1) the sleeves are long, which I think is OK because you can secure the velcro around the wrist cuff and therefor you don't notice the length of the sleeves... and 2) there is plenty of room to fit base layer(s) and a jacket underneath this shell.I wore both outside... the jacket underneath followed by the shell on top... it was super windy out... and wow, I hardly noticed the wind. Game changer.I plan on wearing either one or both of these Arcteryx jackets for probably the next six months of winter here in Ohio, mostly during running/hiking but obviously you can use it for other purposes too, like not freezing in the grocery store haha.Overall I feel that this Beta AR jacket is outstanding. It's a serious investment/commitment, and I hope that I own both jackets for years.... Show more

Love this jacket!

This is a great jacket. This shell keeps me dry in the rain, even after several hours. The hood works with my helmet or can be adjusted well for use without a helmet. I used it in Iceland and Alaska as a top layer. It works as a great wind block and/or rain jacket. The hood can be adjusted to protect the face well. The face/neck lining adds comfort when wearing this jacket for long stretches.Pit zips are well placed and hand packets are comfortable. The zippers work easily for me even if wearing gloves. The jacket is sized to allow me to wear layers under it, if needed. The sleeves are long on my short arms but they are easily adjusted at the wrists or I can adjust them longer if my hands are cold. The material is somewhat crunchy, but it is worth it to stay warm ... MoreThis is a great jacket. Manufacturing Defect
27 October 2023
As a loyal Arc’teryx customer I purchased this premium priced jacket in large measure because of its’ stated quality & “product warranty”. I recently discovered my Beta jacket clearly had a manufacturing defect due to the glue failure as the seams on the jacket degraded and failed. I contacted Arc’teryx and after describing my issue and providing the requested photos they informed me they would be able to repair it. I then paid to ship it to them, and was later informed that they were unwilling to repair it, but would offer me an $85 gift card toward the purchase a new jacket (which retails for $600). I expected them to at least make an honest effort to satisfy a long-term customer. I will not be purchasing another garment from them and remain very disillusioned by ... MoreAs a loyal Arc’teryx customer I purchased this premium priced jacket in large measure because of its’ stated quality & “product warranty”. Reliably Great
22 December 2023
I bought this jacket for a 2021 trip to Iceland. The price made me wince. I brought another nice rain jacket as well, planning to return this one if it didn't perform. We did a lot of hiking in the whipping wind and rain and this jacket was OUTSTANDING. The other big name jacket I brought was useless in comparison. Since then, I use the Beta AR Jacket while I am coaching outside all day in the rain. It is completely waterproof except maybe one 2 inch spot on my shoulder. Every other jacket I own would fail at 4 hours. This one goes all day long. And it's extremely great at cutting the wind. I can layer warmer clothes under it to adjust for the temp. I went ahead and ordered the waterproof pants as well! Phone pocket is too small for my Pixel 8. I can cram it in ... MoreI bought this jacket for a 2021 trip to Iceland. The price made me wince. I can cram it in there but I worry about damaging the zipper pocket. And don't use the hip pockets for your phone. If you leave those open they collect water lakes. No joke. My phone was in 2 inches of water in my (open) side pocket. Anyway, this jacket keeps me confident going out on the wettest/windiest days. I can't say enough about it. Just received Beta AR Stormhood size M Amaranthus to replace old Beta AR M Bondi Blue 2012. The new jacket is slightly roomier than my old jacket I’m 36B and can wear down jacket underneath dispute the cut supposedly being tighter, so glad I didn’t size up. Amaranthus is a darker colour than show in picuture. I would say that the picture of Beta lightweight jacket is closer to the actual shade, which is still fractionally darker. Looking foreward to testing it in the wind and rain. Will be happy if it performs as well as my old jacket.... Show more

Worth every penny
18 December 2023
I hemmed and hawed over buying this expensive rain jacket. However, after backpacking in the rain and getting soaking wet with a “waterproof” jacket I decided it was worth a shot. I bought a medium, because I was able to try on a small at a local REI store and it was a tad snug. I think Arc’teryx runs a little snug, or fitted, on their stuff. I took it on a very recent trip with threats of rain drops, and this jacket delivered. Perfect hood. Pockets to keep your valuables dry. It is worth every single penny. And it’s so expensive it may be one of those things I can pass down to my children in my will. “I bequeath unto you my expensive rain jacket.”... Show more
