The pit zips have two way zippers so I can adjust them to sit any way I like! Size-wise, I noticed some women find this jacket slightly big. I am 5'8" and 122 lbs and I would have to say it is comparable in sizing to other goretex jackets I have tried. There's enough room to layer underneath (I wore it running last night in -17 weather layering a long-sleeved sweat-wicking layer, a 200 gm long-sleeved merino shirt, a micro-fleece sweater and the Arcteryx Atom LT hooded jacket) and the fit was comfortable. The shell was warm and breathed well, I had enough room to move, I did not feel constricted. I have had quality/warranty issues with de-lamination of zippers on goretex jackets before, and the lamination on this jacket appears to be of a superior quality. That being said, I am careful when zipping and unzipping it, I make sure the tracks are aligned on either side and when I get in the house from the cold I wait a few minutes for the jacket to warm up before I unzip it (I'm not sure what temperature the lamination is tested to and I don't want to go through the hassle of making a warranty claim). The fit is nice enough to wear in the city if I needed to, even with all of its performance features it still has a stylish cut, very neat and minimalist.

I had a Beta LT that I picked up on sales about 15 years ago and that thing was bomb proof. Shed the rain and kept me dry for many a years until the lamination that head the waist cord and hood started delaminating. Decided to get a new one in August 2022 and have had it a little over a year with very little use (less than 10 times light drizzle). Took it on a 3 night backpack trip in the Olympic National Park where rain was forecast and got soaked the first day. That said, even the Patagonia 3-ply H2No shells that my partner and son were wearing finally soaked through by the second day. These expensive 3-ply layer Gore-Tex and H2No technologies just were no match for the Alaskan storm front that came through the Pacific Northwest this week. These will not keep you dry.

Just bought this jacket and I love it so far. I've had my other beta for 7 years and it's STILL going strong. But for small ladies:The sizing is different than it used to be. X-Small is a little TOO small, and Small is a little too big.I'm 5'1 and 105-110lbs, so the x-small fits really well if you want to use it only in the summer with just a shirt. I sized up and got a small so I could fit a puffy jacket or a cozy sweater underneath and use it all year round. I hope this helps anyone who isn't sure what they should get!

I expect better arcteryx!
30 January 2024

I bought this jacket as a waterproof, windproof outdoor jacket. For $700...you think it could perform as well as a garbage bag. I found this jacket soaked right through. You can buy way cheaper rain jackets that perform just as well.. I have bought 2 cerium puffer jacket, an insulated ski coat and a long parka too. I have invested heavily in arcteryx and I expect better for the money paid. I have written to arcteryx customer service and depending on the outcome, I will revise my experience. These products should perform. Period. No excuses, no special products to maintain. As a said, a garbage bag performs better only is not breathable and doesn't look as good.

Not waterproof
24 March 2024

I got this jacket on sale and thought I had made a great deal - until I used it in rainy conditions. It protects against wind, but even lighter rain goes right through, within 15 minutes. This was the case even before I washed it the first time. I get completely soaked - from head to hips - if I hike in heavy rain. I had to bring a back-up rain poncho on a multi-day packpacking trip in Yellowstone, which completely defies the purpose of a lightweight rain jacket. I have to replace it before my next backpacking trip. I have other Arcteryx products that I love, but unfortunately won't purchase Arcteryx rain gear again; I need to be able to trust my gear, and based on this experience, I cannot.

Poor quality and warranty
29 February 2024

See photo. After 40 days of usage, jacket bottom opened up and exposing the drawstring underneath. Send warranty form and was denied of a repair or replacement. Reason, normal wear and tear.Quality is not there and the warranty program is horrible. When paying for a quality outerwear that is deemed to be for extreme sports, I have expectations. The jacket is used for warmer skiing days. So not many, I will account for 10 days/year. In reality, like 5/year.The email I got back basicly said no to everything but some non colour matching tape that she was willing to mail to me. Tape up $550 jacket myself? Is that acceptable premium jacket warranty?

Reliably Great

I bought this jacket for a 2021 trip to Iceland. The price made me wince. I brought another nice rain jacket as well, planning to return this one if it didn't perform. We did a lot of hiking in the whipping wind and rain and this jacket was OUTSTANDING. The other big name jacket I brought was useless in comparison. Since then, I use the Beta AR Jacket while I am coaching outside all day in the rain. It is completely waterproof except maybe one 2 inch spot on my shoulder. Every other jacket I own would fail at 4 hours. This one goes all day long. And it's extremely great at cutting the wind. I can layer warmer clothes under it to adjust for the temp. I went ahead and ordered the waterproof pants as well! Phone pocket is too small for my Pixel 8. I can cram it in ... MoreI bought this jacket for a 2021 trip to Iceland. The price made me wince. I can cram it in there but I worry about damaging the zipper pocket. And don't use the hip pockets for your phone. If you leave those open they collect water lakes. No joke. My phone was in 2 inches of water in my (open) side pocket. Anyway, this jacket keeps me confident going out on the wettest/windiest days. I can't say enough about it. It's one of the most important pieces of outwear that I own.

Review after one hour wear

Got it just in time for the rainy weather in BC. I bought this jkt to walk my dog. I like the bright yellow so cars can see me at night. However, after one use I got a bit of dirt on it from the dog park. Some of it wiped away on the spot with tissue paper but other marks seemed to soak right into the fabric and even using a little mild detergent when I got home didn’t get it out. Not sure how the jkt is going to wear over time because of this. The fit is also a bit weird. I’m generally between a sm & med. I’m 5’1” and approx 135lbs and I got a med to layer. The chest and stomach area is roomy but the bum/hip area (I think I’m pretty average in size) is really small and because it’s a bit longer style in the back doesn’t look really flattering on me. I can’t use the cinch function on the bottom because theres no extra fabric for that intended use. So far the waterproofness is good and was beading off of me during the hour I was out. I think it’s also worth mentioning that the hood is massive! After a few adjustments it was comfortable and worked well for me but I wouldn’t get this model if you are wearing it for light use. The hood and massive collar doesn’t sit nicely and isn’t particularly “fashionable” if that’s what you are going for

SO dependable

I have the Beta AR jacket from a couple of years ago, and in early Spring got this Beta LT in the (now unavailable) bright yellow. Each rain-jacket has kept my hips and torso bone-dry when out in moderate to heavy rains during hour to half-day hikes in northern Cali and SoCal canyons and mountains. Difference between shells is, LT is lighter and the pit-zips are a little shorter than the AR pit-zips, which probably accounts, somewhat, for the LT's lightness and packability. I read reviews on this shell's lack of waterproofness, but that hasn't been my experience on this particular shell, or with the AR. I have not worn them in snow. I got a size up, XXL, for layering, and fit is perfect. I practiced adjusting the hood before I went on my first rainy-day hike, and was able to flip the hood up easily for effective face/neck protection. Hood-brim in front keeps rain off my glasses so I don't have to bring a ball-cap. Pockets are super roomy and I haven't had issues with keeping items dry. Front and pocket zippers work smoothly. Lastly--the (currently unavailable) bright yellow keeps me safer on the road. It also instantly cheers me up, and brings unexpected smiles from others on road and trail.

Unhappy with sizing

I do not like the new Arc’teryx sizing. I am 5’ 3” and 100 lb and the XS in the old sizing fits me. In the new sizing, XS is too big and the XXS is a bit too snug (in this jacket and also in some other Arc’teryx jackets I tried this season). Also, in my opinion the hood is way too big for everyday wear (even seems like it might be too big for a helmet). After trying to adjust the hood it was still too big and would not provide good weather protection. The neck area is also too high and I prefer the neck on past season Arc’teryx coats.
