I have always been able to wear cheap sandals & flip flops with no issues until I had a total hip replacement at 39 due to osteoarthritis. I had to start investing in better quality footwear to support my high arch & help me stay on my feet for long periods of time. Higher quality meant more money which meant less shoes for me. For the first couple of days I wasn't sure if I would persevere with my Archie's flip flops - the arch support seemed high and uncomfortable, my feet and calves were very achy and cramped up at night. I don't know if this is normal!! But after about a week the achiness wore off and they felt much more comfortable. I popped my old comfy Fit Flops on to nip out quickly and they felt big, baggy and unsupportive - I've not worn them since! Now 2 weeks in and I have just worn my Archie's flip flops for a camping weekend that involved 45,000 steps in 48hrs and I can honestly say my feet have loved them and my regular knee pain is nowhere near as bad as I would expect after walking that far. Even did a little bit of running with the kids! I love the colours I have the mint, coral, blue, black ones. They seem to help elevate some pain in my feet I normally suffer from. They are so comfortable. So much so I've now bought for my daughter and grandchildren. Can't wait for the warmer weather so I can wear them outside and show off my archies. All thanks to my niece who had a pair and she was raving about them. So I thought I'd try some. So glad I did, they are so sturdy not like the cheaper versions, the straps are melted into the rubber meaning no snapping at the wrong moment. Yes they are a little more expensive than normal, but so worth it, you will have these for many years to come. So comfortable, lovely colours. However, I am having to wear them in gradually as the arch support is extremely firm (given that you don't wear socks with these, it feels firmer than the insoles I bought with extra arch support for Planter Fasciitis) My feet don't have high arches, so perhaps people with high arches would notice it less? I've said they are super comfortable in my review as all other aspects are great and I'm hoping my feet will get used to them. Size-wise, I am a size 5.5-6 normally. However, I needed the 6-6.5 size in these, so I'd suggest the sizing is half a size small and to size up by half. Straps have indeed 'relaxed' a little as advised. Having tried 7 pairs I notice that each pair is quite different in how they fit "out of the box"...some are a perfect fit and are ready for all day wear as soon as they arrive. I found most needed a bit of a breaking-in period and quite a bit of stretching on the straps. I had to be persistent and live with a bit of pinching on a few pair and patiently stretch the straps and the toe post as the day went on....then just like any quality footwear, a magical moment happens where they just suddenly feel super comfortable and the straps "fit". So when I first wore them out, the strap area on my feet were red and my feet kinda felt sore. At the same time, for some reason the thong area between the toes were rubbing and also hurting me. I was going to try to adjust it but I also didn't stick my entire foot in to your edge. (Not sure why it mattered at the time). Anyway, I decided to stick my foot all the way in so my toes were basically at the edge of the flip flop and somehow, the rubbing no longer happened.. I don't know how or why. They stay on my really wide feet and they don't hurt even though it is a standard size. I will definitely buy more colours in the future. And I really hope that you develop other types of footwear with arch support. I used to buy my footwear in the US and it is very expensive because of delivery costs. Now I have a more affordable option in Europe at least for flip-flops.
