Bad product - do not buy. Whilst the advertising on the box sounded amazing as "energy efficient" and replaces all other branded fans, this particular one had red flags as soon as packaging was opened and a tag was labelled on the fan indicating that loud noise at start up and switch off is normal operations. After install the start up is a loud cranking noise that is like a lawn mower starting, and during normal operations was loud and fan seemed wobbly with creaking and squeaking. At switch off the same lound cranking noises occur like a braking hard stop of a truck. Do not buy - ended up going back to Bunnings and purchasing a DETA brand as HPM wasnt on the shelves, now the bathroom sounds quiet and normal again with a shocking loud mechanical beast waking up ... MoreBad product - do not buy. I purcased 2 of these as replacements. One in ceiling of toilet the other in the wall of a laundry. They both oscillate and vibrate to start, one much worse than the other. When they finally start both vibrate badly and are very noisy running. The are both obviously out of balance. There in a very small note in the box warning about the startup vibration, if seen prior to purchase would not have bought. It is very overpriced considering the quality...

This fan is a little noisy, great for modesty. My girls are imbarrassed by toilet sounds. But this fan is a little more noisy than some, it works brilliantly and has a slight rattle due to the very low wattage motor.Highly recommend to any Dads with young Daughters. Because they soon will get older and embarrassed easily

I bought this fan because it had a low energy rating and have bought Arlec products before. The unit when operating is very loud and irritating. It wakes people up at night or keeps them from sleeping. Says nothing about noise on the box, but had a note inside the box saying words to effect that it is loud when starting. This is not good. Pictures of box and installed unit given as proof of purchase and installation.
I've had this fan installed for a number of months, it really rattles on start up and it's very noisy when running compared to other fans. When I recently took off the grille to clean it, I started it up without the grille and it ran backwards, blowing in hot air from the ceiling space. Turned it off then back on, ran forwards, I repeatedly turned it off and then back on and only sometimes did it run the right way so it was exhausting the air.I have since replaced it with a non-energy efficient fan, which cost $12 less. The new fan is working as it shouldThe Arlec energy efficient exhaust fan is a dodgy product at best, it is not fit for purpose and should be recalled by Arlec. If I still had my docket, I'd be taking this rubbish product back!!!
I last bought one of these back in 2009 and it was dead silent @ 25 watts no vibration , and had been going strong running 24/7 in my growtentI wanted to install another one as I am increasing lighting = more heatthis newer model used Watts , and is noisy and clunking vibrating all over the place , face plate was also larger so will not sit inside my tents hole eitherlooks like I am back to looking for another alternative fan , shame because the old one from a decade ago was perfect
Like published battery life and wireless range, published (if even available) noise ratings are untrustworthy. I've reviewed all of the Bunnings 200mm fans using a sound meter at a consistent 14cm from the hub. Check each of those products reviews for their details.-----As other reviewers have mentioned, this fan makes a very unpleasant clunking noise (60db) as it starts. It runs very quietly though (50db), with a buzzy signature. There's no published noise level, and a modest 220 m3/h flow rate. Unless you desperately want a low run noise and energy consumption, avoid this fan.Arlec, you need to make customers aware of startup knocking sounds on the exterior of the box, not on printed instructions.
Quiet operation however it clunks when first turned on. Please see picture attached to this review taken from the instruction sheet provided by Arlec. It is super efficient (5 watts). I have a few of these fans and use them to extract smells from both areas of the house where there is kitty litter as well as when having a shower. I run them continuously for hours, they do the job. Other standard exhaust fans run on average at 25 watts using 5 times more electricity. One of the fans is above the shower area so provided you turn it on before having a shower it does extract the steam.
Very noisy, I wish I read a review prior to buying. I will throw this out and spend the extra. When you start the fan it sounds like loud grinding metal and apparently this is normal as per the instructions. Its too loud and at night my kids will wake up just with the loud grind noise.
Bought this to replace the existing fan. Being energy efficient, thought it would be really good. Did not work as a exhaust fan at all. Had insufficient airflow. The bathroom mirrrors were fogged up and the room very damp. Totally useless. Should be recalled by Arlec. Don't buy it.
