I'm from Scotland so didn't grow up with these, but I think they're much better than Penguins. They're more flavourful and less dry, which is surprising considering that they aren't individually wrapped. I like that because it's less fiddly, but if you want to use them for lunchboxes you might need to pop them in a sandwich bag or something to avoid getting melted chocolate on your other items. That said, they didn't leave much chocolate on my fingers, even on a warm day.

So good that we finally have these in the UK, even if it's just a few flavours and they're at a fairly high price here. They're just so much better in every way. Better crunch, better chocolate, etc. Hope we start getting more of the flavours, particularly double-coat...

Thought I would give these a try as Ive heard friends rave about them for years, just happened to be on offer at the time. Would I buy the again? No. I didnt realise they werent wrapped, and I had purchased for lunch boxes for the family. Are penguins better? Yes and no, they are different so I dont think comparable. Are they worth the extra ££? No I dont think so. Will stick with penguins for pack lunches
Tim Tams are like fractionally smaller chocolate covered chocolate biscuit you can p-p-p-pick up but with a superior chocolate cream filling. They are less dry in the mouth, and less unsatisfactory too. They do not come individually wrapped, but the plactic wrapper does contain a protective plastic tray where the timtams stand on edge in the tray seemingly maximising the quantity that fit in the pack. I'm sure we have all seen biscuits where they use the plastic insert to reduce the number of biscuits well I haven't eaten the entire pack yet but it looks like Tim Tam don't do this. As I said, not individually wrapped so easy to eat more than one, and not see them as an alternative to a Penguin bar but I would use it in that capacity as a substitute with pleasure.
If you put one of these next to a Penguin and have them to someone who doesnt know which is which, I can promise you that nobody would be able to identify either outside of pure chance. There is a minor difference in taste, thats it. Even the Wikipedia article mentions that they were meant to be a carbon copy of the Penguin biscuit. And we now ship these nearly 11,000 miles across the globe. Theyre okay. Theyre not worth the effort.
Tastes like a mix between an oaty biscuit, milk powder and an artificial vanilla/marshmallow flavour. Reminds me of a protein shake trying to have a smores or rocky road type taste. Theyre not bad, just odd. Also it says chocolate flavour coating rather than simply chocolate. So I presume it fails to meet some standard in Australia.
I just discovered today that Ocado does Tim Tams! Ex-pat Aussie here, missing her Aus treats. Nothing compares to the original Tim Tams. Beats Penguins hoands down. Now, if you could please stock Arnott's Mint Slice Biscuits and Cadbury's Cherry Ripes, I will be one very happy dual National. Thanks Ocado!
i cannot believe the people here who dare give less than 5 star reviews for tim tams. these are beloved aussie snacks, ones which we beg loved ones half way across the world to send to us in a care package, or ask friends and family to bring over every time they visit. but now they stock these on ocado... count your lucky stars! for those who cannot appreciate what joy this means for aussies here in the uk, just go back to your penguins and stop complaining.
Classic Australian biscuit, perfect with your tea or coffee. Don't even try to compare with other British biscuits - none compare! In my opinion the only other biscuit to come close with the level of a Tim Tam is Bahlsens Choco Leibniz. Never regret a Tim Tam, always a good exercise in self-restraint to see how long you can resist eating them all after opening the packet!!
