I bought this for my husband’s birthday. At first I was dubious... Now I think I love it more than him! The functionality of it is great - being able to keep it warm for an hour is really useful . The quality and look of the kettle is brilliant. Although having to refill it daily took a few days to get used to, I enjoy having fresh water in the kettle for my tea. If there is anything negative to say it is that the Max fill line is on the wrong side when I am filling it up, but I am now used to where to stop before. All up

The kettle looks great, and with the little inserts in the spout on the inside of the chamber the pour rate maxes out at 9ml per second if I recall. Anyway it’s slow and consistent which means more control. The only issue I noticed was that once it heats to your desired temp, you remove from the base and then replace it a few seconds later the temp reads HIGHER by 2-3 degrees Celsius. Which happens every time I rinse the filter before brewing. So I need to work out which reading is more accurate. Not a huge deal breaker but something to know. (Unless my unit is faulty?) I would definitely buy again. The capacity is large enough, the temp control seems close enough, and the pour restriction stopper gives me a nice slow controlled pour.

Since getting given this as a Christmas gift I’ve been blown away by how great it is. I was wondering whether there would be a few obvious ways it could be better due to it being considerably cheaper than some of the premium temperature controlled kettles, but I was pleasantly surprised. It looks great, build quality is fantastic, the temperature control is easy to use and works well, and the pouring control is amazing - not frustratingly slow for fast pours while retaining excellent precision for slow pouring. If you’re looking at variable temperature pouring kettles I think you’d be silly to look past this! Just buy it

Great build quality, much better than expected for this price. BUT: the temperature control lacks an essential feature, namely that it controls the heating process such that you land at the set temperature when it heats the water up (hysteresis). In fact they try to hide this missing feature: When the set temperature is reached, only the set temperature is displayed, but not the actual temperature. But the actual temperature will be much higher (if you take the kettle off and put it on again, you can see the correct reading). This is a no-go, especially if you expect correct temperatures, to play around with different brew methods. That's such a shame, as the build quality is good, but without proper temp control this kettle is useless. But as it is, this kettle is not competitive, even with the much lower price.
I enjoy using the kettle itself, especially the heavy duty lid that feels sturdy and expensive. The base however is made of plastic and the buttons feel a little flimsy, kind of like a cheap electric cat toy. I don’t mind this too much as the functionality is more than adequate for an entry level coffee snob. It allows me to control the exact speed and placement of the pour, and it keeps the water hot while I wait for the drip from my first pour to finish. Perhaps someday when I need a replacement I’ll try the more expensive Stagg model.
This gooseneck kettle is dope! The colour is cute plus it arrived quickly and was very well packaged. Staff at Alternative Brewing were beyond helpful with an enquiry/question I had - probably the nicest email/online customer service ever. The manual is easy to navigate and clear. My three fave things are the 1 litre capacity, which makes this kettle very convenient for home use, the boil function, which boils water in under 3 mins and the variable temp (this is excellent for not burning tea leaves). All in all, 20/10, amazing purchase, A++++++++++, defs recommend this kettle and Alternative Brewing as the Overview videos are so helpful!
This is a good looking fast boiler, well built for the price. However, when it reaches its set temperature it has usually gone 3-4 degrees over. Wait a minute or so until it goes down. It comes with some pour regulators fit inside the kettle to adjust the rate of flow, but no human hand older than a 3 year old would get through the opening at the top to fit them! These are minor issues however as it is easy enough to control the flow anyway, as it's well balanced and waiting that moment allows you to set up your filter or up of tea. Well recommended.
Kettle is great, got it in white. Can’t be any happier with it. Well there is one thing if I had to stop and think about it. I could have paid more attention to the fact that it is only 220 volts and not compatible with USA, 120 volt, so it looks nice on the counter but no function. Of course my own fault, I blame in the COVID vaccine, helped me not get COVID but I think it had a side effect of some decreased concentration and memory. Well I guess I finally have a good reason to move to New Zealand, be able to make a great pour over coffee with my 220 volt kettle. ;-)
Great build quality, much better than expected for this price. BUT: if you have used other temp-controlled kettles before, you might be disappointed by one specific, but crucial fact. The kettle overheats the water, it seems to lack the electronics to control the water temperature smoothly while heating it up. Other kettles do that much better and bring your water to the desired temperature on point. This kettle just doesn't, you generally end up with boiling water in the 100s. Sure you can just wait till the temp drops to the desired point again, but that might take another couple of minutes. In fact this kettle lacks the essential feature it should provide for brewing good filter coffee. Disappointing, especially as this could be a great kettle with this feature. ... MoreGreat build quality, much better than expected for this price. Bit without it, it's just mediocre, and I would not recommend it to people who are keen on having their water temp on point.
I too, just like you, was tossing up if I needed to splash the extra cash to get the ever so popular Fellow Stagg, going back and fourth watching YouTube reviews to find out what was so damn great about it, is it the build quality or the hidden snake game or what? Realising there are few in depth reviews or videos documenting this AB kettle other than the commercial photos used in the online stores. I pulled the pin and took the risk on this Artisian Barista Kettle because let’s be real, for someone just diving into alternative coffee brewing methods I’m not going to spend almost $250 for something that’s just going to boil my water and feel nice to pour with, but damn I wanted a nice looking gooseneck so bad. Now let’s preface this review by disclaiming I’ve not ... MoreI too, just like you, was tossing up if I needed to splash the extra cash to get the ever so popular Fellow Stagg, going back and fourth watching YouTube reviews to find out what was so damn great about it, is it the build quality or the hidden snake game or what? I pulled the pin and took the risk on this Artisian Barista Kettle because let’s be real, for someone just diving into alternative coffee brewing methods I’m not going to spend almost $250 for something that’s just going to boil my water and feel nice to pour with, but damn I wanted a nice looking gooseneck so bad. Now let’s preface this review by disclaiming I’ve not had any experience with gooseneck kettles before and I haven’t used a Stagg or even seen one in person for that matter so this is purely experience based on this kettle alone and the videos I’ve seen of the fellow model. The quick answer is, if you are just chasing a beautiful countertop kettle that is electric, pours nicely and brings a wonderful satisfaction each time it’s used and are trying to save some bucks, this is the kettle to buy. Straight up, it ticks the boxes that I was looking for and likely yours as well. The long answer is, it depends…. Build quality is decent though not fantastic like I imagine the Stagg to be, the body, spout and lid of the kettle are made out of a light weight metal (I believe it’s stainless steel) however the base and handle of this kettle seem to be a somewhat cheap plastic, aesthetically it’s fine, however just keep that in mind, the handle also doesn’t remove and sadly won’t accept that slick looking wooden handle the stagg can just incase you were wondering. The countertop plate is also a plastic build however this seems a bit better quality. The digital display is nice and bright and gives you the set temp aswell as a constant readout of the current temperature inside the kettle, note there is no built in pour timer on this kettle. The buttons are clicky and do the job however I imagine aren’t as pleasing to use as the Staggs fancy looking knob design. Water heats relatively quick, I mean I’ve never found myself waiting around for it to heat up but again I’ve nothing to compare this with. The adjustable flow plugs are neat and easily plug into the body end of the spout to adjust how fast or slow you can pour, I found the larger of the two plugs to be perfect for my applications. Accuracy of temperature is questionable and probably my only bad point, as I’ve noticed that if I have a set temperature, heat it to that, then remove and place it back down the inside temp will read a few degree higher than my set temperature, but I imagine this is normal of most kettles and it’d be near impossible to just stop water from heating instantly so within 20-30 seconds or so it settles back to my set temperature. Not an issue unless you’re a snob that has to have everything be exact, a few degrees of difference is NOT going to change how your coffee or tea tastes, be realistic. The keep warm function is very nice and seems to work as intended and I also like the fast boil button for when I just want boiling water without having to set my temp to 100. And last but not least, no hidden snake game ‍♂ Overall, if you’re like me and just wanted a nice gooseneck to make pour overs then this is a fantastic option. If money is no object then sure, go ahead and get that Fellow Stagg, I’m sure it will be worth it to you in some way. But this is a great alternative that will satisfy most budding coffee connoisseurs.
