I did buy this motherboard since it was on special and I required an office computer. I didn't want my gamming computer to have office document on it. The motherboard die after a week, I contacted the support from Asrock. They didn't read my message and simply answer "5 beeps = no video card detected". Not even a "hello" or anything. Then the support proceed to talk offensively to me when I did reply them. I proceed to do my own support, seeing multiple people having dead motherboard B550M shortly after using it. I won't ever recommand Asrock motherboard and their customer support doesn't want to be helpful at all.

This is a review for ASRock's review rebate program (Serial #: D6M0XB048471). However, this will not influence my review of the product. To preface the review, I was looking for an AM4 motherboard that had support for PCIe Gen 4 since I was able to obtain both a Ryzen 5 3600X and a 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD for super cheap and wanted to take advantage of the extra bandwidth it offered. I was not a fan of the X570 boards as they had features that I did not need at a price point that was too high enough for me to justify the platform upgrade from my current Z97 build, and most had the chipset fan that I was not a fan off. Most boards at this price range have six USB ports, and it's funny seeing both the ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming as well as the full ATX version of this board having less USB ports than the mATX version. Now I would have preferred an ATX form factor just because my current case is an ATX tower but it's not that big of a deal. The rear I/O also has VGA, HDMI, and DisplayPort video outputs so the motherboard is ready for the upcoming Ryzen APUs based on the Zen2 architecture, meaning that it will be a good choice for anyone building an entry gaming system on a budget or builds that do not require a discrete video card. The lack of 2.5 Mb/sec LAN that is present in the higher end B550 boards is a bummer but I wasn't really looking for that when picking this out. I am also disappointed in the lack of a built-in rear I/O shield. It is a budget board so it's understandable but the rear I/O has enough features that I believe it could have been justified. In addition, the board offers a lot of fan headers compared to its contemporaries, with two CPU fan headers and four case fan headers. Most of the boards at this price range offer half the amount of fan headers compared to this one. The motherboard also has good expandability with a second full length PCIe slot below the main PCIe Gen 4x16 slot, although this one will only run at Gen 3 x16 speeds so make sure your video card is on the top slot if possible for the higher bandwidth. There are also two M.2 slots for SSDs of that form factor, with the top one supporting PCIe Gen 4 SSDs and sporting a built-in heatsink. I really like that they also included an M.2 x1 for a Wi-Fi module in case you want to add in one, but of course this will need to be purchased separately. I don't think they offer a version of this board that comes with the Wi-Fi module already like their B550 Phantom Gaming, which is why it was a pleasant surprise that they bothered to include it on this one. It also has six SATA ports for older drives which is amazing considering the Wi-Fi version of the B550 Phantom Gaming removes two of them for some reason. Do note though that two of the ports will be unusable if you populate the lower M.2 slot since they share bandwidth. The VRM heatsink is pretty large and while I don't overclock much, it does allow for lower temperatures according to some reviews that I have seen. Now I'm not a big fan of the whole RGB craze but it does have RGB headers on both the upper right and lower left sections of the board so you can go wild wiring up your Las Vegas strip of a computer if you're into that. As for improvements, I find the lack of an external BIOS flash feature to be disappointing, since it is a handy feature for in case you upgraded your CPU to a new generation, sold your previous CPU and forgot to update the BIOS before doing so. Just make sure to update your BIOS beforehand before upgrading. I also think that ASRock's UEFI is not as flashy as MSI or Gigabyte, and definitely feels more akin to the old blue and white BIOS screens of yesteryear. Despite this however, I was able to enable XMP profiles for my RAM very easily. Because the board is an mATX form factor, it is a little hard to reach some of the components. The RAM slots are very close to each other, which makes removing the modules slightly difficult, especially when only one side of the RAM slots have tabs to remove them. The clear CMOS header is also located between the lower PCIe slot and a the COM port header which makes it difficult to access if you ever need to clear the CMOS. I think it could have been moved to a better section of the motherboard. Overall, I am very impressed with this board. It's feature-rich with a lot of expandability, and I would not hesitate recommending it to anyone who needs a B550 motherboard on a budget.

So far so good, built a new system with a Ryzen 5 3600, my first ever AMD build, and used my existing Windows install from my i7-6700k, and it booted first time, no driver issues at all. The BIOS is very clean and easy to navigate. Will see how this board works out over time, but right now I am very pleased with this board and will be looking at other ASRock products in the future.

I have the corsair vengeance 8gbx4 ram sticks at 3200mhz speed and the motherboard does not like to overclock them to the max speed for the maximum performance. The motherboard will boot after the overclock has been saved, but a few minutes into windows it would crash and give a blue screen. Error code after error code when I was installing windows. I had to reset my whole PC 4 times, a CD upload of windows, and a usb upload of windows download FINALLY the pc started to work. Just a great board all the way around. Paired it with an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G CPU and 16gb Corsair DDR4-3200 RAM, WD Black 750 SSD. Blazing fast system, from power on to fully loaded Windows takes less than 5 seconds. AMD states that Ryzen 5 3400G APUs (which are older Zen+ 12nm based) are not compatible with B550 chipset. I did not know that when I purchased, I assumed the latest chipset from AMD would work with a CPU generation or two backwards, as they've always done. But ironically it works just fine, it appears Asrock baked support in on their own for this chip, and I'm happy to report that it works splendid. Take that for what you will, maybe avoid Corsiar for this board. Overclocking features are all there and though I didn't make a huge effort, they seem to work just fine. I settled on leaving it stock with PBO enabled (this is a client build, not my own) and I get at or near the rated boost speed for the CPU. I've built hundreds of PCs over the last 25+ years and I've never really had a lousy Asrock board. I can't say that for many of the other brands. This one has the right combination of price and features, it simply works great and is easy to set up. Can't ask for much more than that, would definitely purchase again.
This motherboard has everything you need. It has all of the connectivity you would need. I would like to say that I didn't like was that in Newegg, you could get this product 30$ cheaper than from micro-center and that it doesn't have a clear CMOS button on the io shield, but requires you to physically do it. Also, the io-shield doesn't really line up with the ports on the motherboard in my case and the bios isn't the best. Even though it has some issues, I still really liked that it gave you a read-out while the system tries to boot as it gives you an idea of where the problem is in case it doesn't boot. Overall, this is a really good budget motherboard that has most of the necessities you would need.

I either want a replacement (not sure of that) or money back to get a different card (don't think I'll find pci-e gen 4 for the same price tho) We'll see what customer service says. Oh, the rest of the board was fine and I was happy with it, except when I first put everything together and power it on, I got nothing from the screen. And after moving the video card around and re-seating the RAM I still got nothing. And then after putting it all back to the original config, video card in main slot and trying again after three resets it finally gave me all the lights properly on the mobo and I got video working and it was up and running every since. Oh except in the UEFI, the RAM come up as 2166Mhz but it is actually 3200Mhz and I have to change the settings, but I have heard that this isn't an issue and it happens when using XMP. Other than this it has been satisfactory. One more thing, I wanted to it 2.5 or 3 stars but I accidentally clicked 1 and was going to slide it, but it wouldn't let me slide, OR CHANGE IT :(
Update 2/15/2022: Wow, time flies! I received my rebate some time in August of 2020, was able to update the motherboard to the latest BIOS update in November of 2020 with AMD's Boot Kit program, and everything fit inside beautifully. The Bios menu took a bit getting used to navigating it, but now I've found the best fan speed combo and fine tuned everything else. PC has been built since late November 2020, and it's been awesome!! I can't get my fans to the max RPM as they advertise, but I think that is a cheap fan problem, not a motherboard problem. Overall, highly recommend for a compact build! Original Review July 2020: Using just a few components I already have, and buying lots of new components, I am building a somewhat-budget-friendly PC, focusing mostly on gaming but also a bit of multi-tasking. I mostly play modded Skyrim SE and The Sims 4 with reshade, but I also play The Witcher series and Divinity Original Sin series as well. I also have the tendency to have too many tabs open at once with multiple programs open. So my needs aren't THAT taxing, but it's nice to take advantage of my 165Hz monitor when I can, and I know that as things get more demanding in the future, my computer will be able to keep up. I spent many a month researching what pieces would fit and function together best, and this B550M motherboard will combine with complimentary components and fit into my new Micro-ATX case perfectly! I have a large graphics card, but by research and measuring, it should fit. I have two sticks of 8GB ram, but I have the option to upgrade to 4 in the future if I choose. All of my peripherals can plug into the back panel of the motherboard, and I have extra to spare! There are more SATA and PCIe slots than I need right now as well. This motherboard will work perfectly for me currently, and should serve me well into the future if I keep upgrading and/or expanding. This review is for the ASRock rebate program, but I was going to buy it even before learning about the program. It has so many features and abilities! With the abundance of ports, the four RAM slots (rather than 2 usually found on smaller motherboards), compact size, hefty heat syncs, RGB headers, sleek aesthetic, sturdy build, and of course the newest AMD chipset for future support, the value of this motherboard is amazing! I technically have not been able to build this PC yet (here's looking at you processors not being restocked in the U.S. or fulfilling pre-orders for two months), but I am super confident in this motherboard. My current motherboard is ASRock as well, and it's old in terms of computer component age (about 7-8 years old) and has just finally started to slow down on performance tests in the last year, so I'm sure this new one will last me for years to come as well! Can't wait to put everything together, and update my review, hopefully soon!

I just wanted something that would just work, wanted something as barebones as possible, and didn't want to have to worry about it again. This thing worked without any hitches or concerns - mission accomplished. Although I said the diagnostic/status LEDs are a bit basic in the pros/cons, they ARE helpful and worked fine to help me determine I had a bad RAM stick so that may be a bit unfair. I just had to spend some time in the manual to make sure I understood what it was trying to tell me, but it's not bad. I've just seen better implementations in more expensive boards, but that more expensive part is probably the key to that. Enabled XMP and although enabling xmp seems to trigger an odd repetitive boot loop, after a couple of reboots it's fine and the problem doesn't recur. Maybe this is normal, but it's not a concern to me since after the initial sequence it works perfectly fine from then on. I can wholeheartedly recommend this board. It may or may not be better or worse than others in its price bracket, but for what I wanted it has worked just fine and I'm more than happy with it. The kid's computer works when he needs it, and I dont have to troubleshoot any hardware problems.
