For $299, it is a good, if not great microphone as a first mic, a backup, or even as an another option in your mic closet. I bought it to see what it was like and it is pretty open sounding and good on acoustic instruments. In a mix it will work, and that is what really matters. However, when I listen to it against something with pristine quality like my Gefell M300 it just sounds kind of cheap, even though I hate to put it like that. There is just a little something missing from this microphone that only a high end microphone will provide, and that is not surprising. If you are a professional and/or can spend the extra money, I recommend going with something like a Gefell or Neumann because it will be a better investment in the long run. This mic sounds amazing! It has a clear, natural sound. It has fairly heavy focus on the treble, but it doesn't overtake the other frequencies. This mic is also built incredibly well. It really feels like it's going to last a long time. As far as its features go, I think its highpass filter might be a little bit harsh for some applications, but I think you could use it for vocals and acoustic guitar and get pretty good results. Also, it does have a built-in popfilter, but I don't think it does a good enough job on its own. I would advise using another one as well. Doesn't have to be expensive.Overall, this mic is amazing. Especially for the price. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good mic for music, voiceover, and other tasks of similar nature. ... MoreThis mic sounds amazing! I bought a pair of these as drum overheads after listening to a review on youtube. I've been using them as drum overheads for about a year now. I still think they do an excellent job. Although I usually close mic the whole drum kit, I've been experimenting with a 4 mic drum technique with just the kik and snare close mic'ed. After a little experimenting, I have found the Origins to work really well in this application.I've also tried using them on acoustic guitar and vocals. Results have been good, but they seem slightly harsh sounding on the top end; very usable but not my new favorite. You kind of get what you pay for when it comes to microphones but these mics really are an excellent value.

I love the Neumann U47fet. Although it sits in the shadow of its illustrious valve predecessor, I find it superb in so many situations. I first aquired one in 1985 as the main presenter microphone in my home DJ studio. In my days as a presenter on BBC local radio I had a very understanding chief engineer who was happy for me to exchange the Beyer M201 in the main studio for my beloved 47 when on air! I now own three U47fet mics. The first is an early model with the cardioid symbol on the front reversed. The second is my 1985 model and I now have my collector's edition purchased from Eastwood Sound and Vision recently. By the way the Beyer M201 is a great value for money all purpose mic!
This is a great sounding mic definitely better then anything in its price range. This mic can compete with some of the best mics when it comes to sound quality. The reason I gave the mic a 1 star is because my mic worked perfect for about 5 months then it started making a humming noise. At first I thought it was my room or another piece of equipment. I have 4 mics this is the only one making that sound and again it never made any humming noises for the first 5 months. My mic is still under warranty so I was just gon send it in and get a new one right!!. Not that easy the only number you can call is a number in Santa barbra California which is the distribution center but they never answer or return messages. I emaild support no response. Good sounding general purpose mic, Ive used it to record Baritone sax, no roll off, vocals & acoustic guitar with rolloff. The mic was advertised to have the top stainless mesh damaged, I was able to to a repair using self adhesive, perforated aluminum drywall patch! Looks brand new. As is, I got it at a nice discount. I purchased a 15$ shock mount.
This Aston is a great mic; compared to other expensive mics, which I own, it never seems to sound like it's only £200; I use this for voice recording, as well as vocals, and it always sounds like a far more expensive mic without having to hype any of the frequencies.
A well made microphone , solid and reasonably heavy with a unique metal chain link material providing good protection against plosives. It can be mounted on a conventional stand but really needs a shock mount (the one provided is excellent). Controls for a pad and a Low Cut filter are provided. Tonally the mic is very nice indeed for vocal or instrument. The output signal is very reasonable and self noise is low, response pretty flat and accurate,
The Aston origin has been a complete game changer for me. It works on virtually every source, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and of course vocals. This mic makes a vocal cut and sit right in the mix. Throw some traditional eqing on it and it's the complete wow factor. People probably think that at this price point, it can't be as good as some of the big boys in the industry. Those people are terribly wrong. This mic should be in everyone's collection, it is a workhorse and in my opinion will eventually become an industry standard. Thank you Aston for making such a great and affordable microphone that sounds as good as as it looks.
