The Astro Gaming A30 Wireless Dolby Atmos Gaming Headset is a great up from the previous model. As someone who has strictly used Astro gaming headsets over the past 5 years, I can say without a doubt they have nailed it with this upgrade. I immediately noticed that this headset would not update with the Astro command center software that I have on my PC ( a good thing because it's kind of a wonky software) but now you download the “Logitech G” app off of the app store on your phone. The app is where you can decide to switch between if you want to use the headset for your Xbox or your PC, and is also where you can check to see if there is an update. A cool feature about this headset is that it has bluetooth and can be used while paired to your cell phone and your console/PC at the sametime. I used this feature to play a Podcast on my phone while playing the new call of duty with both sounds coming through the headphones. You just have to remember to turn your A30 headset off when you're done playing games or when you try to go play something off your phone it will still connect to the headset. Sound quality on the A30s is amazing, especially when you turn on Dolby Atmos, where you get 3D sound and its game changing especially for video games. The feel on the headband is great and the adjustable sliders are a much better design from their previous models. My only real complaint with the headset is the removable boom mic, where in the older models the boom mic was built in and was on a swivel to adjust the position and to mute the mic. It now just rests in one location and the mute button is located on the back left ear cup. This is a tad incovent in that you have to locate the switch to mute yourself instead of just flipping the mic upwards to mute and then the location of the boom mic for me personally is too much in my peripheral vision while gaming. You can remove the boom mic to use the built in mic, but my teammates said I did n sound as good when using the built in mic. Overall you can't go wrong with the A30s as its one of the most versatile headsets on the market where you can pretty much use in all gaming circumstances and use it with your phone,

Headsets have come a long way from the wired ones we were used to years ago. In addition to being usable as a wired headset, this model can connect wirelessly to the dongle (which is quite compact) or via Bluetooth. The detachable boom mic is flexible, and the connector is keyed (there's a notch on the connector) so that you plug it in the right way. It is also quite comfortable, a rarity for me as I have a large head and a lot of headsets I have to take off after several hours due to the clamping force giving me a headache :(Using this for gaming, the sound quality was good. There was a good amount of detail from the highs, mids, and lows. The mic quality was decent - my friends said that they could hear me well with the boom mic. When I detached the boom mic and it switched over to the built in mics, they said I sounded a little quieter, or further away, but only by a small degree. I appreciate that this device has controls to adjust the voice/game mix, where you can adjust how much of your voice chat you want versus the actual game (it involves the computer setting up two "outputs"). Having USB-C is nice as well for convenient recharging when needed, although for me the battery seems to last a long time.Using this headset for music, the sound quality continues to impress, with good bass and treble. It connects via Bluetooth very quickly, and the companion app allows for you to adjust the equalizer as well as set the presets in addition to monitoring battery levels.I would say that the only area that could use improvement is, as with most headsets, is the mic. While my friends said that they could hear me, it wasn't "crystal clear" - that being said, they could perfectly understand and hear me. Additionally, while I appreciate that there is a dedicated mic mute toggle switch, having a red LED on the tip of the boom mic that would go on/off would be a welcome feature as well.Overall, I was very impressed by this headset. It is comfortable, has good sound quality and battery life to last for days. There are a lot of settings and customization that can be done through the mobile app, including turning on/off the gamer-style sound effects when powering on/off.I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get a gaming headset.

I can listen to my podcasts while I hoover, I can dance to music while I do the washing up, I can sit for a break and play my video games online with friends and answer calls from family all at the same time and I can do all of this effortlessly.

I’ve used the Astro A50’s in the past and just swapped out my A40’s to try out the A30’s and have been pleasantly surprised with this headset. I’ve always had a soft spot for Astro’s after my first pair of A50’s and I feel like every headset I’ve tried from them so far have never failed to deliver and the A30’s aren’t any different. You can connect this headset to 3 different devices via the usb dongle included, Bluetooth or an auxiliary cord. I don’t really have it connected to more than two and realistically don’t use multiple sources all at the same time, but having the option is nice to multitask with videos or music while gaming and everything coming through the same audio device. I don’t really have it connected to more than two and realistically don’t use multiple sources all at the same time, but having the option is nice to multitask with videos or music while gaming and everything coming through the same audio device. The sound quality on them are pretty decent, definitely not as good as the A40’s or A50’s, but the price difference kind of reflects that compared to those headset. It’s still good and the Logitech app for it is pretty simple and has a fair amount of customization to it. The comfort is pretty standard as far as Astro headsets go. I can play for multiple hours without even feeling it, but results may vary from person to person. The internal microphone and detachable boom mic are both pretty good, but the boom mic has the advantage when I’m party chat or Discord calls while the internal is more for phone calls. The tags on both sides of the headset are removable, as well. I haven’t seen Astro do any custom tags specifically for this model, but I remember hearing that some of the A40 tags will fit on this model. I’ve said almost nothing but positive things, but time to talk about some of the negatives. The sound quality is a little worse than an A40 or A50, but you’re not missing out on a ton. I’m not an audiophile by any means, but I feel like the A30 lacks some of the depth that the other two models nail. The boom mic is detachable, but unlike other Astro headset you can’t flip it up when not in use to push out of the way/mute. The dongle is also pretty good for the most part, but you have to buy separate dongles for the other consoles that you bought your headset for which is kind of a bummer. Also, the dongle sometimes won’t see my headset and I will have to take it out and plug it back in to get my headset to sync up to my Series X. More of an annoyance than a huge gripe. Lastly, I saw the headband on other consumers A30’s have come apart decently easy, but in my short experience with them I haven’t noticed anything worrying. The joystick that controls game/chat balance and headset volume is kind of a pain to push sometimes and wish it was a scroll wheel instead. All in all, it’s a good headset with great sound quality that can be easily used for gaming, music, movies and calls. If you want a multi-use headset and are familiar with other iterations of Astro Gaming headsets, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with these. If you’re looking for something primarily more gaming focused I would recommend checking out the A40’s or A50’s at a Best Buy to compare the sound quality, fit and build of each headset. Astro has made another great headset and I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the market for a next-gen headset with multiple uses. Hope this helps!
General overview: Very attractive looking headphones with clear sound quality but the just decent mic and lack of instructions/feature set could be improved.Packaging: starting off with the packaging this was really nice experience. Great presentation, easy opening experience with no tape or plastic around. This is the type of opening experience everyone should strive for.The only issue I had was not immediately realizing that you are supposed to push the box out of the outer sleeve.Inside the box there is a carrying case, containing the headphones, the boom mic, 3.5mm cable and USB-A to USB-C charging cable, as well as a single sheet depicting how to turn on, how to pair with Bluetooth, as well as a QR code for the associated mobile store app.I am ... MoreGeneral overview: Very attractive looking headphones with clear sound quality but the just decent mic and lack of instructions/feature set could be improved.Packaging: starting off with the packaging this was really nice experience. Even just a single leaflet explaining the functions would suffice.Looks/build quality: These headphones are probably the most attractive ones I've ever seen as well as the most comfortable. The white model really meshes well with many of the looks of current consoles and doesn't look gaudy or too "gamery". The ear cup tags on the back have a nice rainbow-likw reflective quality to them and the fact that you can replace them/customize them separately is great for making them your own.The headphones are extremely comfortable. These feel extremely light and have excellent cushioning on the headband/ear cups yet at the same time they are breathable and remain cool even while gaming for an extended period of time. They're also surprisingly stable for having very little clamping pressure which makes them great for both extended use as well as glasses users where you don't get the sort of pressure on the temples that many other headphones normally produce. The only nitpick I have is that it's not immediately clear how to adjust the length of the ear cups down. There are tabs with indents on both sides that look like you would pull down directly but you're actually meant to slide the inner band up and down through it, which could be more clear and also is not smoothest of actions but not enough to get into it.Sound quality: The sound quality on these are really good. It offers a well balanced sound for a variety of uses. I also like that it doesn't try to change the sound but does enable you to hear a lot of the details in the sound at lower volume than you might otherwise need to.Using these with Dolby Atmos you do get that bubble of sound as well as surprising bass response. The audio quality does vary tho depending on how you're connecting to a device however.Using the USB wireless transmitter with the Xbox produced the best sound. Bluetooth was a mixed bag with it sounding great with my phone but very poor with the Nintendo switch. The included 3.5mm cable produced great results with both the switch and the PS5 tho I did need to fiddle with the cable a bit initially to get stereo sound from the PS5.Mic quality: the mic quality itself seems serviceable enough. Tested it out with a few of my friends in a party with both the internal microphone as well as the attachable boom mic.Impressions were mixed with both options being louder than my usual headset of choice but not necessarily clearer or better. There seemed to be a bit of echo with both microphone options but they all seemed to prefer the internal microphone much more than the boom mic which to them sounded way off.Features/controls: so as mentioned previously there an assortment of controls on both ear cups. The left features the mic mute switch, the 3.5mm Jack as well as the boom mic port to connect to. The right ear cup has the power button, the Bluetooth button, charging port as well as a little control nub.The USB transmitter itself also has a button to switch between console mode and PC mode with an equivalent control available through the app.The worst part about the control scheme is the control nub. It's intended to be used to control both the volume as well as the game/chat balance. However there's no audio feedback when moving the nub to tell if it's actually doing anything until you get to the end of a specific range. It's also surprisingly hard to actually locate the nub by feel when wearing the headphones. I'd much would've preferred two separate rockers for the volume and the balance that may have been easier to navigate by feel. The app also contains the controls for the balance/volume, the PC/console switch as well as some additional settings not available directly such as the DSP preset (Immersive/footsteps) as well as the ability to create your own custom equalizer settings. The headset is able to connect to multiple sources simultaneously, which allows you to use the headset wirelessly with an Xbox but still control the functions through the app on your phone through Bluetooth.I can definitely see this being beneficial where you may be playing a game with the audio on your headphones but also maybe on a discord call or other app on your phone to communicate with others.I've been in this situation before and this kinda if setup would have been greatly appreciated.I do have a issue though with these Xbox edition headphones being as they're advertised as being compatible with switch and ps5 but that's not entirely true, at least wirelessly. These were my first Xbox headphones and while I knew previously that Xbox used a specific wireless protocol that made the USB transmitter incompatible with ps5 (hence the separate PS5/Xbox editions). I did not know this extended to the switch. Plugging the transmitter into the switch dock didn't seem to give any issues. It lit up as expected and gave me the USB audio controls on the switch menu but I couldn't get any sound out from it.It took me going to Astro's how to connect to switch video to discover that you would need to connect using the 3.5mm jack or a separate usb-c adapter connected to the switch directly.Judging from some other research I've done, I assume that the playstation edition USB transmitter would not have the same limitation and would properly transmit the audio when connected to the switch dock.I do wish that this fact had been actually communicated through any sort of material making them really only wireless with Xbox/windows PC or mobile devices through Bluetooth.A novel idea that would be appreciated is maybe just not having separate editions in the first place and just including both the Microsoft specific adapter as well as the more general use PlayStation adapter in the same box however unlikely this is to happen.Overall, I think these headphones are very good for sound quality, comfort, and looks and can serve a very good usage case with its multi-point audio capabilities. However be mindful of which edition your purchasing since it may influence which devices you can actually connect to wirelessly.
Amazing pair of gaming headphones/mic. There is no need of drivers, software etc on the PC side or Xbox, you configure and tune them all via their app, I love this, no more bloatware on PC. This way, you can have up to 3 different inputs on the same cans (the wireless usb dongle, bluetooth and via mini jack).Their app is really nice and you can update firmware via there, select EQ, listening modes etc. The headphones themselves are super sturdy and they are very comfy, the earpads feel like a faux leather with some sort of memory foam and are very comfy, the headband too. These headphones have dual mics. You can attach the included boom mic for better voice while gaming, but if you want to take them on the go as music cans, you can detach it and there is still one included mic if you want to take phone calls lets say while listening to music, very versatile. Finally I love that you can mostly control them either via the app and also on the headphones themselves there is like a little joystick, which you can move in different directions to control volume, chat/game balance, play/stop music, answer calls etc.Sound is great and these are closed back headphones and they are very good at insulating outside sounds. While playing multiplayer games I chose the soundsteps profile to pinpoint accuracy, works very well and there is also an immersive mode for single player/campaigns. Battery life is great too.Great job Astro, I love the innovation of using the phone app for most of the headphone tuning, no more software on the PC!
As someone that has been through what must be 10 headsets at this point in my gaming history, the Astro A30s have distanced themselves from the rest by a large margin in sound quality, build quality, and overall appearance. The A30s were built keeping in mind that the user would potentially be using them not only for gaming, but also to listen to music. From a gaming perspective, they have a wide range of sound that can produce the deepest of low bass frequencies to some of the highest pitch frequencies you will run into in any gaming experience. They do a great job of producing a 360-degree sound that from my experience has been extremely accurate at depicting where a noise is relative to where you are in the game. From a listening to music perspective, they get the job done and have quality sound, but simply cannot produce the same sound as some headphones with a deliberate purpose of listening to music. They are primarily meant to be gaming headphones, so this did not come as a surprise. As far as the build quality and overall appearance, Astro Gaming and Logitech knocked it out of the park. The A30s are hands down the best-looking headphones on the market in my humble opinion. They have a high-quality feel which is welcome as gaming headphones are infamous for having cheap plastic builds that seem to break just after 6 months to a year of use.One of the complaints I have about these headphones is how they structured the controls. On the left earcup, you have a port for the detachable microphone, the port for an auxiliary cord, a microphone built into the cup itself, and the switch for muting the microphone. On the right earcup are the Bluetooth button, power button with a status light, and a four-way joystick. The four-way joystick is something not found on most if any other gaming headphones. Pushing left or right changes the chat/game balance, while pushing up or down changes the volume. Most other gaming headphones simply have a wheel that controls the audio setting; that approach seems to be more precise. Not a deal breaker, but worth noting. The only other complaint I have is related to the microphones. When the detachable microphone is being used, it has a pretty clear sound but nothing special. When the detachable microphone is not in use and the built-in microphone is being used, the clarity of my voice suffered and wasn’t very clear to anyone I was talking to.As far as comfort goes, they have a snug feel with memory foam ear cups that have a comfortable feel when wearing. There isn’t much breathability in the ear cups, but this is as expected considering they are supposed to cancel out background noise. The battery life is as good as advertised as I have been testing them for 3 days in a row without any signs of dying or lacking in performance.Overall, the Astro A30s are a great pair of gaming headphones that live up to their price tag.

The positional audio is particularly impressive, allowing me to accurately pinpoint the location of in-game sounds, which is especially useful in first-person shooter games. The design of the headset is sleek and minimalist, with a matte black finish and subtle Logitech G branding. The A30 Wireless Dolby Atmos Gaming Headset is a great looking headset. Clean, white frame with semi-clear caps on the earcups (tags) with a multi-colored glow showing through. There's no LEDs, but rather a shiny, colored finish underneath that reflects colors through the speaker tags. The Xbox version is white; the PS version is a dark navy blue. Both versions will connect to the respective consoles as well as PC via a USB dongle, as well as being able to connect to both consoles if you're willing to spring for the cost and purchase a second dongle. The A30s are smooth and stylish overall, and despite the fact they are a bit plasticky - it almost entirely made of plastic, they seem to be very solid. While they aren't the lightest headset around, they appear compact and fit nicely within the included case. The controls aren't very well thought-out in my opinion. The left earcup has a mute switch, and two ports for the boom mic and a 3.5mm audio cable. Since the boom mic is a plug/unplug device, you can't just swivel the mic to mute it - you have to feel for the button. The right earcup contains a power button, a Bluetooth button, and a four direction miniature joystick, which controls the volume and game/chat mix, along with a USB charging port. The little joystick is frustrating, as it's easy to choose the wrong direction, and the increments from one level to the next is making it far too difficult to attain the level you're seeking. Making it worse is that it doesn't link with the volume in Windows, which means you have to control it with the little joystick or from the phone app, which you connect to via Bluetooth. The power button and Bluetooth button have the identical shape (not to mention they're tiny), so you cannot differentiate them by feel - you either do it long enough you remember which is which, or you take the headset off so you can look. The Logitech G app is sparse, but does what it needs to. There's two pre-made EQ settings, with the ability to create your own via its 5-band EQ. You can create separate profiles for games, media, etc. along with a few simple adjustments for the internal as well as the boom mic.The boom mic was okay, although it transfers external noise easily if it's located too close to your mouth. The internal mic was a bit disappointing. Often voice was a bit garbles, or too soft for others to hear. Again, trying to change any of these setting requires you to connect it to your phone app via Bluetooth, which can be annoying if you have to do it frequently.Sound quality is very good, but the 40mm drivers aren't quite up to par with a couple of other headsets I have with 50mm drivers. Still, when it comes to sound Astro headsets generally excel, and these are good - just not the best I've heard. Treble is a bit more accentuated than bass, but in gaming that works pretty well most of the time. Overall, the A30 wireless did a very good job of balancing voice with game sound. They don't supply enough bass for excellence in media/music, but should be good enough to most people for everyday listening, making the A30s a decent choice for multi-use scenarios if you need more than just a gaming headset.I didn't find the Astro A30s quite as comfortable as some of my other headsets. It didn't cause discomfort, but I was aware of the pressure on the top of my head from the bridge, as well as the earcups. They grip and hold well, and are overall comfortable to wear during long gaming sessions, but I noticed they were there. The adjustments have no increments, with their travel being completely smooth making it just slightly more difficult to duplicate the settings precisely. It's not a big thing, but it was another small thing that was noticeable. The Astro A30 headset is a really good headset, but it's not great, which is disappointing as it is a bit on the pricier side, particularly give it's mostly plastic construction even it the build quality did seem solid. Sound is very good and should please all but the most finicky. Visually it's outstanding, and the ability to use it across multiple devices adds to its value, but while it has a few things going for it, it also has some minor disappointments. None of them are "deal-breakers", nor do they prevent me from recommending them, but they are there. The Astro A30 Wireless headset is a good, solid headset, with excellent sound that falls just a bit short of being class best, and an exceptionally sleek and compact design, but falls a bit short at being great overall.
I’ve never had an Astro headset, I’ve always bought Turtle Beach for my Xboxes, and Logitech for the PC.The packaging is genuinely nice, sturdy, but not gaudy or full of extraneous stuff, there seems to be a little bit of thought in making the packing minimal but still feel like it’s high quality. Save the planet and all.The connection to the Xbox and PC is very simple, you can just plug in the USB-A dongle, and it’s paired and ready to go. You can also connect via Bluetooth with your phone or PC, and I think PS5 has Bluetooth as well. There is no lag at all when using the dongle, and I don’t hear any Bluetooth-ish compression. Bluetooth pairing is super simple and being able to listen to my music while gaming is just amazing. The headset looked like it might be a bit tight for me, as I have a giant head, but it fits great with solid but gentle clamping force, it even looks like it has room for fatter heads than mine. The earpads are soft and I did not have any issues with them being hot while using. I used them for 6 hours straight and did not feel hot or uncomfortable. The materials of the whole headset show where your money went, everything feels great, the textures are unique and very pleasant. These feel like they are going to last for a good while.Setup with the Logitech G app was quick and easy, I really like the slider for chat/game balance, though the wheels on my Turtle Beach headset is easier to mess with than an app. It’s a setting that needs adjustment more often than I would like to stop and pick up my phone, find the app, then make the adjustment. The app’s equalizer works best with small adjustments, if you get too crazy cranking up the bass, it smothers the rest of the sound, I wish it gave a little more frequencies to push up and down to shape the curve. The app also has the option in it to switch from “Console Mode” to “PC Mode”, I’m not clear on what the differences are, as Logi does not seem to think it’s important to give too much information to users. The Logitech G software on the PC does not see the headset via Bluetooth or via the Lightspeed dongle, so we’re still stuck with the phone for adjustments.I like the sound a lot for gaming, these do a good job at spatial positioning in the games I play most on Xbox- Forza Motorsport 7, Forza Horizon 4 and 5, and The Division 2. Being able to hear someone creeping up to try a pass and know nearly exactly where they are as they approach it is really nice. I don’t play shooters, so I can’t speak to how good they are at super-fast paced games where I know positional sound can be all the difference.I got no complaints at all about the microphone quality, though without any pop filter, it does pick up my mouth breathing when I’m concentrating on the game. So, there’s that.I had very low hopes for music quality with these cans, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised, no exaggeration, they have surprised me with some of the sound they punch up on tracks that I am very familiar with. The A30 has a wide soundstage for closed backs, though there is very obviously an awful lot of electronic squishing and molding of the sound, I have not found them to be tiring at reasonable volumes. I would not personally use these for daily drivers for music, but they are pretty good for electronic stuff and rock, I found them sorely lacking on classical tracks. They haven’t clipped even when at high volumes, but the sound does flatten out as the volume goes up. These are not nearly as bad as a lot of other wireless cans that just give up when the volume goes too far. This is now my go-to gaming and PC headset.
