I purchased this router for the WiFi 6, unfortunately the WiFi not reliable, wifi keeps crashing, when watching streaming video, the video starts, stops, skips and quits. For some reason, other devices would go offline, then come back online. We have fiber, and the wired works just fine. But this is the first router I have had issues with the WiFi.I have been buying Asus products since 2002, this one is a big disappointment. I hope Asus support can help find and resolve the issue, otherwise this router's going back to the store...and I'll switch back to Linksys.

I installed two of these Asus RT-AX82U AX-5400 Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 Router to upgrade the wifi speed and cover throughout the house. Installed one as AI-Router and the other as AI-Node using AIMesh in the software/GUI. No dropouts, great speed, easy to setup. All wifi devices "automagically" connecting at 5GHz speed seamlessly and change ASUS RT-AX82U connection depending on location in the house. I am getting the same speed on WiFi as my desktop PC connected to the router LAN by ethernet. Money well spent, wife happy.

Easy to set up. Lots of features for home, work and gaming.Very happy with performance and wifi coverage. I didn't have a DSL modem but managed to get hold of a cheap xDSL router/modem and put it into bridge mode and its all working far better than my internet provider's (talktalk) "caged" routermodem combo. Now looking to by a cheaper aimesh extender to complete my setup.

Another solid performing router from ASUS bought to replace an RT-AC88U. I'd dabbled with Wi-Fi 6 very early on and it wasn't for me due to actually dropping link speed between my N devices but I'm pleased to say a couple of years on and that situation has gone, all N devices are getting their expected link speeds and the AX WNIC I have in my PC is connected at between 800Mb-1Gb.Set up was super easy, as is the case with all the current ASUS routers I've set up. The web GUI is easy to navigate and intuitive whether you go for the guided or advanced set up. There's a huge range of configuration options so whether you want to just set up and go internet surfing or create a home network, this router has you covered. There's a huge range of configuration options so whether you want to just set up and go internet surfing or create a home network, this router has you covered. Guest wi-fi networks, parental controls, website blocking, port forwarding etc. are all easily done. This router is smaller than I expected and while it feels like a lesser product than the AC88U it replaced it is by no means inferior on any level, I just need to get used to the smaller footprint and if I'm totally honest, I'm really liking the fact it doesn't fill the shelf it is sat on.If you are in the least bit put off by the lighting, you can turn it off. Personally, I like it but I think it would benefit from the ability to be able to schedule when it is on and when it's not; I'd like to be able to set it to turn on and off to match the time of day for instance (ASUS can I please get this in the next firmware update?).Router has been up since the day I turned it on with not interruptions to service, no loss of connection to internet or clients. I currently have 22 clients connected as a minimum, including, phones, iPads, laptops, a PC, 2 NAS boxes, 2 8 port switches, games consoles and 4 IP cameras and it is showing no signs of giving up.Wireless range is quite something. Full house coverage in a 2 bed semi-detached Victorian house with the router at the front of the house downstairs. It even covers almost to the end of a 100ft garden. Now I know this is especially good as my neighbour asked my advice on repeaters to cover his place as his wi-fi wasn't even reaching the back of his house with the same layout as mine.So if you are after an updated router with Wi-Fi 6 and you don't need an 8 port switch built in (this one has 4 ports) then you can't go wrong with the RT-AX82U. I'm a gadget addict, I work in IT and this router satisfies both my professional expectations as well as my inner geek.
Pros: It's a nice router. We were using to replace our Hyperoptics router because Asus offers much better coverage. With an up to 1Gb/s internet and both routers in the same place, our old one's WiFi only offered about 500Mb/s Up and Down, where as Asus can max out the speed (at about 850Mb/s) and overall stably runs at the same speed as via ethernet.Cons: It's expensive. It doesn't have wall mount holes. And this was also a replacement unit for the older one we've had of this model, which died 6 months after purchase. Reliability of this unit is questionable. But in those 6 months the router has been revised with an updated power-brick. How long will this one last? Will have to see.
Pros: This is a powerhouse of a router. After alot of research including performance, reviews and budget I decided to go for this piece of kit. I was changing broadband to virgin. I already read that virgin routers are poor. When I had virgin installed I was getting via WiFi around 180mb download speed on a 350 package. Stuck virgins box into modem mode and wired this one up I now get the full dowoad speed over WiFi! Even better at times get 365mb download. Obviously wired get the full speed. But for my normal size house I get full coverage. Maybe one corner of house I get one less bar but signal still great and I don't have plasterboard walls. Even on vpn I get get full speeds. I split bands up and use smart plugs, lights, printers on the 2ghz. Rest on 5ghz. I get up 60mb download speed on 2ghz which is faster than most other broadband providers in general. Fully recommend.Cons: Maybe flexible antenna, but that's me being picky
Easy initial set-up, Poor company support I had no problems setting this up initially, then some devices connected to the internet without issue and some devices wouldn't connect to the internet. Everything kept a constant connection to the router "connection without internet". Over the next week things that could connect to the internet stopped connecting and those that wouldn't connect did. Connecting and disconnecting seemed to be random (weird hey). After calling Asus support and spending too long on a bad line with someone that was hard to understand, I was told it was all my other devices and I should call their makers to sort out the issues. Well, my choice was call all the other branded companies that made my other devices or take the router back and get ... MoreEasy initial set-up, Poor company support I had no problems setting this up initially, then some devices connected to the internet without issue and some devices wouldn't connect to the internet. Pros: Easy to set up. Works perfectly as a main router with our virgin hub 4 in modem mode. WiFi is brilliant now and covers the whole house. No lag on gaming consoles anymore (this was a big problem with the VM Hub 4). If your lucky enough to have WiFi standard "ax" or otherwise known as "Wifi6" on any WiFi capable devices, then this is a must. Also has Mesh capability should you wish to add to your network.Cons: Antennas could be a little less obtrusive. Could do with a couple more ethernet connections. A little pricey for mid range router.
Pros: Hugely improved speeds in those parts of the house and garden which struggled previously. Very easy to set up. Easily accessible control panel with sensible default settings. Too early to tell about long term reliability.Cons: Takes up quite a bit of space as it can’t be wall mounted. Not a big fan of its looks but it’s performance makes that a price well worth paying.
I bought this router but had real reservations from reading the compatbility issues with Sky, but I tell you they are wrong.I have gained a 10mbs improvement to the box some how, 15mbs at WIFI point of use and downloads on xbox at 91% of speed at the box via WIFI.The router was easy to setup and is easy to play with. The more time I spend in the settings the more I learn. The app is nice looking and is interesting. One great fun thing is the color change on front of the boxPros'Speedease of useapp interfacecostImprovements:sky VOIP interface (not figured this one out yet)
