I purchased this to replace a 9-year old PA238Q from the same range. That has given good service but now has a couple of faults.I'm very happy with the PA279CV; it gives an excellent display and is robustly constructed. A 4k display of this size has a pretty high pixel density at 163 per inch. Without intervention, typical text could be so tiny as to be illegible. Windows recognises this and automatically configures itself to scale text at a default of 150%, which is a good start. I got this to use with Krita and for other digital art programs. The build quality seems very decent and the stand is easy to assemble and versatile. The screen size is more than enough for anything really. I can't display UHD (4K) with it yet, because I have an older PC, that nevertheless displayed HDMI with FHD (1080p), no problem (it didn't get 4K upscaled though).sRGB mode is darker, but I like that it's less bright, because I often work in a dark room and the brightness gets fatiguing. You may need to recalibrate a screen like this more often if it sees a lot of use for professionals. Get a device that will help you calibrate, they show them in review videos for this kind of display. This comes calibrated out the box, but it's recommended to do it every so often.

However, it is missing a crucial feature: hardware calibration.Most of the online reviews, even ones hyping this product up for its color accuracy, fail to talk about hardware calibration at all. You need to find the online colorist communities to find people talking about color in a real technical manner. They will teach you about hardware calibration (this is the only way to have accurate colors without banding).Now, you may say, hardware calibration only matters if you have a colorimeter to use. And that is true. But my experience with this monitor is that the colors weren't particularly good out of the box either.I ordered two matching units at the same time. ... Native and sRGB on the monitors were okay—the mismatch was there and noticeable but not so astoundingly bad as the AdobeRGB and P3 modes were.So, I looked at getting a colorimeter to make them match better. However, in researching calibration I discovered that this model doesn't have hardware calibration.So, I ordered a colorimeter off eBay and I discovered that LG makes some of the least expensive displays with hardware calibration. So, I ordered a pair of 27UQ850V displays from B&H as well.The LG displays immediately looked better our of the box. Better contrast, better colors, better matches to each other, and better matches to my MacBook Pro.I didn't receive the colorimeter until a couple of days before I had to ship these Asus units back, so I was not able to do much testing with calibrating them. But, as a quick-and-dirty test I did a simple calibration with Calibrite Profiler using a Calibrite Display Plus HL. I used User 1 profile and followed the Calibrite instructions to set the contrast, RGB, and brightness before calibration. I was rushed when I did this, and my experience is that this process is somewhat finicky, so take this result with a grain of salt. But, after calibrating, the Avg. ∆E was 2.6 and the Max. ∆E was 4. That is technically passing, but those are not very good results.For comparison, if I do hardware calibration on the LG monitors, LG's software tells me I have an Avg. ∆E of 1.035. For a more apples-to-apples comparison, I also ran Calibrite Profiler to do software calibration on top of the hardware calibration, and it gave me an Avg. ∆E of 0.5 and a Max. ∆E of 1.6. Those numbers are excellent.************************SummarySo, basically, the ASUS PA279CRV didn't deliver acceptable color out of the box. It doesn't support hardware calibration (which is a necessary feature for color-accurate work). And, it didn't calibrate very well in my rushed test.For a similar price, the LG offers hardware calibration, better out-of-the-box color, better contrast, and, to my eye, a better quality display. Oh, and the LG has a much better OSD and it wakes up much faster when my mac is asleep.I was able to get my mac to run both Asus monitors at 4K 60Hz through a Caldigit hub. Though, I had to change the DisplayPort Stream setting to DisplayPort 1.4 + USB 3.2. The LG monitors worked though the hub together out of the box.My recommendation would be to not bother with this product. Even if you don't have a colorimeter, I think the LG 27UQ850 looks better out of the box. And if you do have a colorimeter, or hope to have one eventually, the LG supports hardware calibration and calibrates very well.

I don’t know enough really to be able to comment on the technical aspects (such as reviews stating “mediocre contrast and brightness”) but so far I’m pleased and I haven’t noticed any contrast or brightness issues myself. The colour isn’t quite as nice as the MacBook screen (which is lovely) but hopefully it’s accurate to the Adobe RGB colour setting that I need for a realistic representation of how my work will look when printed. Aside from video editing, text is super sharp and crisp, and photos and websites look excellent. Since it's an LCD, black levels are never going to look as inky black as they do on an OLED display, but that's to be expected. You can always get a small OLED TV to use as a makeshift client reference monitor.I originally wanted the Apple Studio Display, but at $1600 for one monitor, it was way too expensive for me. On Black Friday, I was able to snag TWO of these Asus ProArt 27 displays for under $800. That's less than half of ONE Apple display! Sure, it's not made of shiny aluminum, but who cares? Image quality is all I need, and this delivers in spades. Plus, they come with VESA mounting holes in the back as standard, so I was able to place them on a two-monitor VESA mounting arm and free up a bunch of space on my desk. I know the Apple display is 5K and this one is 4K, but two 4K monitors side by side get me way more resolution and work space than one 5K monitor.All in all, I heartily recommend this Asus ProArt 4K monitor to anyone looking for a high-res 27 LCD for content creation and general computing on a Mac (as long as you plug it in directly and not through a docking station).
The UI on this product is absolutely horrible - be prepare to google everything and spend your time investigating how it works. Even changing audio volume required me to change shortcuts and access the menu each time adjustments is needed.When comparing the image quality to my EIZO it is easy to see how bad and uneven the display is. The included REC709 calibration is also significantly darker than our EIZO.I was also surprised to find this USB based monitor does NOT work with older (2019) thunderbolt MacBook Pros. So be carefull expecting USB-C to work for you. Using display port is also not possible with my 2019 MacBook Pro - so I am forced to use old 30fps HDMI. But my main concern is how horrible the UI is compared to Apple products. I would return this ...
