Do not purchase this display. I purchased 2 to use for photo/video editing. Out of the box one monitor was a significantly different color temperature than the other. I called ASUS support, and their answer was sorry. nothing we can do, return it to retailer. I did that, and had to purchase a 3rd display so I wouldn't be without one. 3rd display arrived and was a 3rd color temperature, and had issues with the OSD and power indicator light (flashing). Called ASUS support again, and their answer was Uh, we don't know why it's like that, you can send for repair. I asked for an advance replacement given the situation, and they said no, that's not something they can do. So, I'm returning all 3.

The ASUS PA279CRV is a fantastic choice for content creation. It comes out of the box with precise calibration in the sRGB mode, ensuring colors are spot-on. Whether you're working with photos, videos, or design, its various picture modes for different color spaces have you covered. The 4k resolution means text and images are incredibly sharp, and the 27-inch screen gives you plenty of room to juggle tasks. Plus, it's got handy extras like a USB hub and a super-adjustable stand that makes finding your perfect setup a breeze.

I ended up sending this back.Partly I wasnât convicted by the colour accuracy. To be fair, I did not calibrate it, but in factory calibrated sRGB mode it was visibly over saturated vs another calibrated monitor I have. The sRGB mode of this monitor also locks the brightness, which practically speaking I find quite inconvenient. (Other modes, eg AdobeRGB, did not have this limitation.) I found that small text, particularly when blue or purple, was subject to colour fringing around the edges, the kind you get from over-sharpening - but sharpening was set to 0. Backlight bleed was also bad but to be honest no other IPS I have is significantly better, and not an issue 95% of the time. But all that aside, itâs still only 3 stars due to low build quality. The bottom bezel also had a very large gap between it and the screen, with the whole thing creaking very loudly whenever using the monitor control buttons. Wouldnât mind on a cheap gaming monitor, but thatâs not what this is!Otherwise it seemed pretty good. The anti-reflective coating on this screen is fantastic, and in practice resulted in better perceived contrast than an âIPS Blackâ display I have that reflects awfully. No issues using it with a single USB C cable on an M1 Mac either.

I purchased this monitor to use primarily with Photoshop. Prior to this I had an HD LG monitor. I was much happier with the LG. This ProArt monitor gives lousy screenshots that are dark and pixelated, and Iâve checked all of the recommended fixes. Itâs also shows fingerprints terribly. I was expecting more from a wide color gamut monitor designed for artists. The registration process and accessing a real person for customer support is challenging.
This probably says a lot: I purchased one of these, then decided to get another a month later. Why? It works well and the calibration was spot-on. It's sophisticated enough for demanding graphics work. Why only 4 stars then? The button adjustments are not nearly so workable as other screens. I particularly like my BenQ, with its handy dongle switch to instantly go from Adobe RGB/sRGB/B&W .... that is really convenient! Even so, the ASUS is an admirably serviceable monitor at a very competitive price: about 1/3 the BenQ, so I bought 2 and felt it was a great investment!
Okay, I know that this monitor is sold as being both wide gamut and color accurate (in sRGB mode). However, it is missing a crucial feature: hardware calibration. Most of the online reviews, even ones hyping this product up for its color accuracy, fail to talk about hardware calibration at all. You need to find the online colorist communities to find people talking about color in a real technical manner. They will teach you about hardware calibration (this is the only way to have accurate colors without banding). Now, you may say, hardware calibration only matters if you have a colorimeter to use. And that is true. But my experience with this monitor is that the colors weren't particularly good out of the box either.I ordered two matching units at the same time. ... MoreOkay, I know that this monitor is sold as being both wide gamut and color accurate (in sRGB mode). As soon as I got them, I noticed that one was much greener than the other, even in sRGB mode. It is possible that one was defective. However, because both displays are supposed to be âE less than 2 to a reference, that means there could be as much as âE 4 between two units if they are off in different directions. Also, neutral gray didn't look particularly neutral on either unit.I tried all of the different display modes. I'm on a mac so I made sure to select the correct display profile in system parameters (Mac OS 12.7.5). Native and sRGB on the monitors were okayâthe mismatch was there and noticeable but not so astoundingly bad as the AdobeRGB and P3 modes were. So, I looked at getting a colorimeter to make them match better. However, in researching calibration I discovered that this model doesn't have hardware calibration. So, I ordered a colorimeter off eBay and I discovered that LG makes some of the least expensive displays with hardware calibration. So, I ordered a pair of 27UQ850V displays from B&H as well. The LG displays immediately looked better our of the box. Better contrast, better colors, better matches to each other, and better matches to my MacBook Pro.I didn't receive the colorimeter until a couple of days before I had to ship these Asus units back, so I was not able to do much testing with calibrating them. But, as a quick-and-dirty test I did a simple calibration with Calibrite Profiler using a Calibrite Display Plus HL. I used User 1 profile and followed the Calibrite instructions to set the contrast, RGB, and brightness before calibration. I was rushed when I did this, and my experience is that this process is somewhat finicky, so take this result with a grain of salt. But, after calibrating, the Avg. âE was 2.6 and the Max. âE was 4. That is technically passing, but those are not very good results. For comparison, if I do hardware calibration on the LG monitors, LG's software tells me I have an Avg. âE of 1.035. For a more apples-to-apples comparison, I also ran Calibrite Profiler to do software calibration on top of the hardware calibration, and it gave me an Avg. âE of 0.5 and a Max. âE of 1.6. Those numbers are excellent.************************SummarySo, basically, the ASUS PA279CRV didn't deliver acceptable color out of the box. It doesn't support hardware calibration (which is a necessary feature for color-accurate work). And, it didn't calibrate very well in my rushed test. For a similar price, the LG offers hardware calibration, better out-of-the-box color, better contrast, and, to my eye, a better quality display. Oh, and the LG has a much better OSD and it wakes up much faster when my mac is asleep.I was able to get my mac to run both Asus monitors at 4K 60Hz through a Caldigit hub. Though, I had to change the DisplayPort Stream setting to DisplayPort 1.4 + USB 3.2. The LG monitors worked though the hub together out of the box.My recommendation would be to not bother with this product. Even if you don't have a colorimeter, I think the LG 27UQ850 looks better out of the box. And if you do have a colorimeter, or hope to have one eventually, the LG supports hardware calibration and calibrates very well.
I bought this monitor as I needed one that had a USB-C or Thunderbolt powered connection for my MacBook Pro M2, and Adobe RGB colour gamut for my work as a graphic designer. After lots of research, I found there were surprisingly few options and most were really expensive so this monitor seemed a good option. I donât know enough really to be able to comment on the technical aspects (such as reviews stating âmediocre contrast and brightnessâ) but so far Iâm pleased and I havenât noticed any contrast or brightness issues myself. The colour isnât quite as nice as the MacBook screen (which is lovely) but hopefully itâs accurate to the Adobe RGB colour setting that I need for a realistic representation of how my work will look when printed. The colour isnât quite as nice as the MacBook screen (which is lovely) but hopefully itâs accurate to the Adobe RGB colour setting that I need for a realistic representation of how my work will look when printed. Images and video are really sharp and text is clear and easy to read. With the USB-C cable provided, it powers on my MacBook when I switch on the monitor and keeps it charged up. And the built-in USB hub works well for plugging in my keyboard. The only thing Iâm disappointed with is the sound as itâs really tinny - especially compared to the amazing sound on the MacBook - so I still play sound through the MacBook despite it usually being kept closed (although itâs a bit muffled, it still sounds loads better than the monitor). Apart from that I would recommend it.
I bought two of these to use with my MacBook Pro M1 Max as a video editing workstation.***Note that the only way I was able to display 4K at 60 hertz on both monitors simultaneously was to plug BOTH monitors directly to the MacBook via USB-C to DisplayPort cables. Once I did that and stopped trying to get them to work through the Thunderbolt 4 Dock I have, everything looks excellent.***The resolution is great, as I can have Premiere Pro open on both monitors with one of the two showing the footage in the program window at close to actual size, which helps to see all the detail of the 4K image while editing. Colors look really good, and while this isn't a reference monitor designed for color grading Hollywood movies, it's plenty accurate for my videography work. ... MoreI bought two of these to use with my MacBook Pro M1 Max as a video editing workstation.***Note that the only way I was able to display 4K at 60 hertz on both monitors simultaneously was to plug BOTH monitors directly to the MacBook via USB-C to DisplayPort cables. Aside from video editing, text is super sharp and crisp, and photos and websites look excellent. Since it's an LCD, black levels are never going to look as inky black as they do on an OLED display, but that's to be expected. You can always get a small OLED TV to use as a makeshift client reference monitor.I originally wanted the Apple Studio Display, but at $1600 for one monitor, it was way too expensive for me. On Black Friday, I was able to snag TWO of these Asus ProArt 27 displays for under $800. That's less than half of ONE Apple display! Sure, it's not made of shiny aluminum, but who cares? Image quality is all I need, and this delivers in spades. Plus, they come with VESA mounting holes in the back as standard, so I was able to place them on a two-monitor VESA mounting arm and free up a bunch of space on my desk. I know the Apple display is 5K and this one is 4K, but two 4K monitors side by side get me way more resolution and work space than one 5K monitor. All in all, I heartily recommend this Asus ProArt 4K monitor to anyone looking for a high-res 27 LCD for content creation and general computing on a Mac (as long as you plug it in directly and not through a docking station).
The UI on this product is absolutely horrible - be prepare to google everything and spend your time investigating how it works. Even changing audio volume required me to change shortcuts and access the menu each time adjustments is needed. When comparing the image quality to my EIZO it is easy to see how bad and uneven the display is. The included REC709 calibration is also significantly darker than our EIZO.I was also surprised to find this USB based monitor does NOT work with older (2019) thunderbolt MacBook Pros. So be carefull expecting USB-C to work for you. Using display port is also not possible with my 2019 MacBook Pro - so I am forced to use old 30fps HDMI. But my main concern is how horrible the UI is compared to Apple products.
