I have excellent signal strength on each of my 40+ devices regardless of where you are in the home. I can even mow my lawn or work in the garage while maintaining a strong Wi-Fi signal for my headphone music, or iPad streaming.I pay for 500MB service (Spectrum), and I get ~540MB while plugged in to one of the five Ethernet ports on the back. My Wi-Fi speeds float between 330-400MB depending on the time of day (due to local demand in the neighborhood).Overall I am extremely satisfied with this product, and the ASUS App that runs everything is amazing. I can control (and rename) every single device on my network, from the “gaming priority bandwidth” options, to limiting someone else’s bandwidth, or seeing if an unauthorized device has connected. (And boot them off or block them permanently)I recommend spending the extra money for ASUS brand for any of their products. You will definitely get what you pay for. Enjoy!(I registered them with ASUS for the longer factory warranty too)

I asked for a new-in-box replacement and was told there wasn't stock for that, either. At this point it has been a full seven weeks since I opened my case, 4 weeks since support confirmed that my router was defective, and two weeks since my advance RMA was approved. After waiting a week to get a replacement "allocated" I was told to wait another five to seven business days. That was a week ago.Do not buy an ASUS router. Their support will string you along, ignore you, and do nothing unless you drag them kicking and screaming to honor their warranty.

Fantastic Router - Really Fast

Firstly, one other review exists against this, they gave it 1 star because it didn't have a phone socket, that is totally unfair, it isn't the product or the sites fault that the customer doesn't know what to look for when purchasing a product!!! It does not say anywhere that the device is a modem, so why would they expect it to be?Anyway, this is wireless router, a very very good one with lots of features, high speeds and a long range. Wired, I get 565mbit download (probably the max my internet goes), two floors up in the attic with a USB dongle, I'm still getting 250mbit+ download. I wanted the full blown AX86U but couldn't warrant the price, and I'm glad I chose this version as it does everything I need,I've a USB drive and an external hard drive attached to ... MoreFirstly, one other review exists against this, they gave it 1 star because it didn't have a phone socket, that is totally unfair, it isn't the product or the sites fault that the customer doesn't know what to look for when purchasing a product!!! It can also be used as a print server, or to use 3G/4G dongles. You can even set up AICloud to allow access to you data anywhere without require VPN accessYou can set it up as a VPN server or client. It allows AIMesh to use other ASUS routers as a mesh network. It has adaptive QOS features including game mode.It has AIProtection that provides advanced security features, such as malicious site blocking, two way intrusion prevention, infected device blocking, and a button that assesses the current security of your device and network. It has OpenNAT.It has parental controls that allow blocking of specific sites or site types from all or specified clients. You can also set times that the internet is available on a schedule, again per device. To make it easier, you can also set up groups of devices for both of these features. It has a Traffic Analyser that shows you who has accessed the internet, times they accessed them and the sites they access, caught my son watching youtube at 3am when he had school the day after lol!I'm sure it has many features I haven't listed too, I've only listed the ones I know and use. It really is an impressive bit of hardware, so again, please ignore the ignorant fool that wrote the 1 star post.

There haven't been any drops since downloading the latest firmware and applying my custom settings. The speed the router provides is insane. Of course your results will very based on the Internet subscription you have from your ISP, but the report will not be the bottleneck in any case. I get 500 Mbps down and 12 Mbps up on my Galaxy 22+ from the opposite side of the house on the same floor (2800 Sq ft divided equally been upstairs and downstairs). My PC, which has a WiFi 6e card and is downstairs gets identical speeds. The laptop that is connected with a cat 5 cable to the router gets over 750 Mbps down and 12 Mbps up.It handles many devices and connections flawlessly. We have 3 cell phones, 2 computers and a ton of light switches, WiFi plugs, Alexa and a couple other random devices. None of them have had any issues. While the cost may be high, tender if you take your old router in to Best Buy, they not only will recycle it for you, they will give you a 15% off coupon towards a replacement router. Kudos to BB for making the recycle program available.

Bought this to replace my Fios router and what a difference it made. I didnt realize how much I missed managing my own router and the flexibility. With the growing number of wireless devices in my house, I was able to give away my extender, needed for the Fios router, and all of my devices connect and operate just fine. I also didn't realize how much I used wirelessly in the home until I looked at the device map in the app. With teens in the house, I can easily restrict and monitor traffic on any device.Router is in basement of townhouse and where spotty for the Fios router, not one hiccup on the top floor on the opposite side of the house. I upgraded from my Asus RT-AC86U to this router looking for higher download speeds, greater range, improved stability and to future proof the next generation of devices.I have zero complaints. Set up was a breeze. Connected all my devices then started running speed tests all around the house (compared to my previous tests with old router). Significant improvement in every regard. I am now maxing out the download speeds that I couldn't get before and the far corners are much improved as well.I also tested out the AiMesh using the old router as a node. Again, set up was simple and worked like a charm. My son's room, always the worst spot, more than doubled his download speed. Also, worth noting there appear to be new features on the app. I haven't gotten into all ... MoreI upgraded from my Asus RT-AC86U to this router looking for higher download speeds, greater range, improved stability and to future proof the next generation of devices.I have zero complaints. So far, pretty happy minus a few small issues.

I've found this to be a very reliable wireless router in the 3+ months that I've had it. It's been very consistent and it is faster than our old one. That being said, we've run into a few glitches I'm happy to pass on....This is capable of using either 2.4 or 5ghz as you would expect, but the default setting had it switching automatically when needed between the two, which resulted in it primarily staying on the 5ghz... However, anytime I tried to set up a smart device that required 2.4, the setup would rarely be successful as things would inevitably switch to the wrong band and lose connection. Eventually I realized I could split things into two separate signals and have been much happier since.Another issue we've had and been unable to resolve is the lack of ... MoreI've found this to be a very reliable wireless router in the 3+ months that I've had it. This worked previously, and now only works when using YouTube, and even that occasionally has to be reconnected. Airplay still will usually work, but overall the whole thing is iffy and a constant frustration. The wifi coverage has been better throughout the house than with the old router, we are two stories, about 1500sq ft. I like the look of the router and I think the app is REALLY nice, and has a lot of features that I probably haven't even discovered how to use yet.

Solid flexible router
8 January 2023

I purchased two of the ASUS RT-AX86S routers to replace a two node Apple router system that I was running. I was previously running an Airport TimeCapsule as a primary router cabled to an Airport Extreme as a remote node. Now I have these two RT-AX86S units cabled together via 1gig ethernet using the ASUS AiMesh system. I was previously running an Airport TimeCapsule as a primary router cabled to an Airport Extreme as a remote node. Now I have these two RT-AX86S units cabled together via 1gig ethernet using the ASUS AiMesh system. You will have to do some research, but it is very flexible and you can configure the network almost any way that you want.I’m successfully running the Dual band Smart connect mode. I’m running a mix of old and new devices on both bands without issue. I like the vertical orientation of the unit, it should aid cooling of the internals. I have had overheat issues with other network gear that had a flat horizontal design. Data rates are great. I am on a 400Mbps Comcast plan and usually test at 450-480Mbps actual download speeds on my newer devices, so no problems there.I had some issues with a couple of fixed location devices (iMac and printer) occasionally connecting to the remote node, and running at slow speeds or losing connectivity. The solution was to simply bind them to the closest node. Problem solved. Binding is very easy to do using the web interface (haven’t tried the iOS app). I have had zero problems for two months now after binding these problem child devices. The routers and connections have been rock solid. The routers run cool and the speeds are great. Range seems to be as good or better than my old setup. I’m not running any of the built in specialty software modules yet, so I can’t speak to those. I did setup a couple of guest VLANs, those seem to work well also.My biggest complaint with ASUS is the difficulty in finding/understanding the documentation of some of the more advanced features (AiMesh vs Access Point vs Repeater mode for example). It is out there, but you will have to work to find and understand it. This is fairly typical of most router manufactures though I believe.

bought this to replace an old asus onhub that google decided wasn't worth keeping updated.sadly it couldn't even outperform a 7 year old device.pretty sold on asus products so figured why not give this a shot. updated the firmware first thing then started to configure it. left almost everything set to OFF except for the firewall which is on by default. set it to ax mode enabled and auto band switching. several of my devices seemed to bounce from 5 to 2.4 ghz and back and forth several times. nope, not a fan, disabled that. tried testing devices. both nest security cameras having trouble connecting and viewing video, not good. upstairs tv keeps buffering while streaming disney plus for the kids, not good. tv downstairs keeps buffering watching 4k youtube videos, ... Morebought this to replace an old asus onhub that google decided wasn't worth keeping updated.sadly it couldn't even outperform a 7 year old device.pretty sold on asus products so figured why not give this a shot. updated the firmware first thing then started to configure it. left almost everything set to OFF except for the firewall which is on by default. set it to ax mode enabled and auto band switching. several of my devices seemed to bounce from 5 to 2.4 ghz and back and forth several times. nope, not a fan, disabled that. tried testing devices. both nest security cameras having trouble connecting and viewing video, not good. upstairs tv keeps buffering while streaming disney plus for the kids, not good. tv downstairs keeps buffering watching 4k youtube videos, not good. disable ax so router uses ac instead as I only have one ax device, my pixel 7, and even that was for some reason jumping over to the 2.4ghz even though the router is literally 10 feet away from me. all in all I only have maybe 12 devices that actively connect to the wifi and maybe 4 or 5 that actively use the connection at any one time.I shouldn't have to troubleshoot a brand new router out of the box . user interface leaves a lot to be desired. reminds me of old router interface from 20 years ago.bottom line, this thing is going back to best buy tomorrow. I have plugged back in my old asus onhub even though google disabled its controls through the home app it still is working for the time being.I have ordered the new nest pro wifi from amazon because of the next day delivery.
