Works great not too expensive. Can work as a cd player. I feel that the burn speeds are not as fast as internal disk drive but its fine. It is basically plug and play. Software in disk is garbage. This thing works great on a computer that has no more disk drives. No usb c so its old tech. Hope asus wont stop making these

Works fine, after a bit of learning

I had almost this same model (down to the "diamond-cut" finish) from a decade ago. USB "B" printer connector is now a Mini-USB. (Micro-USB is more common, but no matter: They provide the cable.) Initially, both a WinXP and a modern PC sometimes failed to recognize the drive. Key is to connect that extra line to a USB power supply; now recognized every time by both. (The manual tells you this.)

Nowadays, many laptops don't come with CD drive but i am glad that I still can get this Asus CD drive for my work, and it is compact to carry around. I can use it on my gaming desktop and work laptop. Mobility is excellent. I trust this brand " ASUS" which come out good and lasting product and also their software update support. Oh, my desktop configuration is ROG. Excellent motherboard.

First, the PC OS I wanted to use the device on is running Windows 11.The entire device felt like it would fall apart if handled too rough. Very flimsy. Loading and unloading DVD takes a very soft touch otherwise you can damage the device very easily while loading and unloading disks. Next was the cable used to attach it to the PC. Extremely short about 12 inches. Connected it to my desktop while my PC was on. System recognized it right away. Went to update drivers but according to the windows OS the best drivers were already loaded. Loaded a game with DVD's. Loaded ok. After that it went downhill. The problem started when the game that was just installed needed to have the PC restarted to complete the installation. If you leave the DVD drive on and attached to the PC during the restart process, it will corrupt the system file and will require a system restore. Luckily, I had just a system restore point before installing the DVD drive. DO NOT LEAVE ATTACHED TO THE PC WHEN STARTING OR RESTARTING YOUR PC.Otherwise, the disk drive works great for reading disks. Haven't tried to burn any CDs yet. Still within the 15 day return window. Kinda up in the air about returning it.

[Rewarded Review] Solid DVD player/recorder at a value price

Good for what it does. The door tends to stick on anything around the opening which is why the downgrade. I found putting the player on something a bit smaller than it will remove the problem. Reads my cd's and DVD's without any problems. Whether those were commercial products or ones that I recorded. This is not the bluray version.The read speed is fast, and the player reads smudged or slightly dirty disks well. I had one disk with a deeper scratch that gave it problems, but other than that one time, it read anything I put into it.

efficient + extremely portable dvdrw drive

most, if not all, new laptops don't come with a dvd drive anymore so you're on your own if you need to view media on discs.this portable dvdrw drive from asus is extremely lightweight and about the size/dimensions of a music cd case, so you can easily fit it inside any backpack or computer case.regarding the functionality, i've been using it for over a month now and it hasn't had a single issue. easy to setup with the included wire and can be up and running within a minute or two.i'd highly recommend this drive, especially at this sub-$30 price point
