Pros: Best value for money NAS I could find, and every review said it was a good entry level device. I now agree with that. It can run Plex easily enough which makes a huge difference over how I previously managed my music and video collection, all effortlessly. And Box sealed the deal by having it on offer, and they delivered perfectly as they have done every time I have used them.

I had no problems transferring my drives from an AS602. The drives were recognized and updating the necessary names was easy

It was easy enough to set up, transfer files from a different external drive through the front USB port, and start using it remotely and as a local network drive.

I purchased this unit since the Asustor website NAS selector page indicated that it has support for btrfs snapshots. Their product page also mentions snapshots (although it mentions them in relationship to iSCSI volumes - which at this point may or may not be true. I have no idea)I need btrfs snapshots for protection against ransomware (a very serious threat, especially since Asustor systems were targeted by the DeadBolt ransomware). I liked the idea of this product because of the advertised btrfs support and the fact that it had a 2.5 GBe port on the back (vs. Synology still being stuck at 1 GBe).But when I received the unit I quickly learned that it does not support btrfs for the internal volumes. After attaching it directly to the Mac, I could find it, but it could not reach the internet. Transferring files also kept stopping incomplete. Couldn't get any help from Asus without registering the device, and all the self help info. was a bunch of QR codes. I had some success skipping all the Asus software and just using the Mac Finder, but this also got hung up. If you're going to go with NAS, recommend you know your networking, and also that your primary network is wired Ethernet. Be prepared for tinkering and troubleshooting.
