Audioengine P4 Passive Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) Satin Black
A high-performance bookshelf speaker pair with the same great looks and sound as our powered speakers. Experience the signature Audioengine sound and quality but without our built-in amplifiers. Beautiful, small, and affordable, P4 is the perfect choice for your living room, bedroom or office and an ideal surround speaker for use with other Audioengine speakers in your home theater or stereo system. The P4 passive speakers are full-sounding bookshelf speakers in a satellite-sized package. The goal with P4 was to design a small but powerful bookshelf speaker for people that already have surround receivers or amplifiers and are looking for the same Audioengine sound and quality in a passive loudspeaker. If you already have an power amp or don't want to give up that big surround receiver then the P4 is for you. The P4 has excellent bass response for its size, which is evident when used either as stereo speakers or as satellite surround speakers in your home theater setup. P4 sounds great sitting on stands, on a bookshelf, or mounted on a wall using the integrated threaded inserts which are compatible with most wall or ceiling mount bracket systems. Audioengine active and passive speaker models share a similar voicing and overall tuning so that you are assured a matched system no matter which of our speakers or Audioengine wireless adapters you decide to add to your system. The P4 passive speakers are perfect for digital hybrid amplifiers (Class-D, Class-T, etc.) as well as most stereo receivers, integrated amps, and tube amplifiers. The P4 has a 4 ohm impedance rating but will sound great when connected to almost any receiver or power amp with 4, 6 or 8 ohm speaker output impedance.

I very rarely do reviews. I felt compelled to share my experience as I discovered something I had no previous appreciation for. A little history, I have the P4 Passive Speakers with the N22 Desktop Amplifier. They have always been used on my desk with an external DAC connected to my Mac. The staging and resolution have always impressed me. Recently I have been looking into getting a good set of headphones and headphone amp. I procured the Sennhieser HD 660s, and have been rediscovering my love of music. I learned that the N22 Desktop Amp is a respectable headphone amp too. So much so, that I'm not planning on purchasing a new amp. I feel compelled to share my appreciation for the Audioengine products - Thanks!

I first heard these in the non bamboo version, and really liked what I heard. After looking online and reading the CNET review from a while back(these were the bamboo versions), I decided to pay a little more for this version.I'm not disappointed, at all. The Cabinets are just gorgeous. These are a solid little speaker, that doesn't sound small. Build quality is first rate and the packaging is unique(love the micro fiber bags!).I've got dozens of pairs of speakers at my disposal(literally) and these measure up well. Paired with a good amp/receiver, they have performed very, very well.Better as a desktop or small room speaker, they work well. Some have commented on the lack of bass, but to expect that out of a 4" woofer is asking alot. These do quite well and if ... MoreI first heard these in the non bamboo version, and really liked what I heard. After looking online and reading the CNET review from a while back(these were the bamboo versions), I decided to pay a little more for this version.I'm not disappointed, at all. I purchased these speakers for use in my husband's home office. Saw these advertised on TV and decided to give them a try.He loves them! The sound is fabulous. We have been playing vinyl, cd's and YouTube music collection (via cell phone) and the output is consistently smooth sounding, clear music.Definitely worth the price. And the bamboo finish looks really good!Ordering and delivery were great, too. I received the speakers within a few days of ordering and I was notified regularly about the delivery process.

I've had these speakers set up for a week now with the N22 Amplifier and the B1 Bluetooth Receiver. Setup was super fast and easy, latency is non-existent, and the sound is great. I live in an apartment complex so I wasn't able to crank the amp to its max but there's great volume range and clarity. I play podcasts, classical music, and some heavier modern electronic music and all of them sound great on this. Would recommend these if you want great sound with maximum flexibility
I'm listening to them right now !!! I'm very happy with them. They arrived a few weeks ago, but I had to wait for the amp and then had to wait some more for the correct wiring from the computer to the amp. The instructions say "at least" 16 gauge wire to the speakers and I have 18 gauge, seems o.k., should I change them ? And you say they will be even better after 30 to 50 hours of play ?! Can't wait ! They are a little less than the recommended 6 feet apart due to my limited placement choice but may figure out something some day. The wires are long enough that I can put them far apart on the floor for while for a special listening session, but too dirty and too much risk of bumping them to be a permanent placement. They are out of harms way on the table. Never made ... MoreI'm listening to them right now !!! I'm very happy with them. I already have a pair of P4's and the S8 Powered Subwoofer and decided to complete out the rest of my home theater with 2 more pairs of the P4s.I have 2 pairs of P4s for the Front and Rear L/R and used a pair of them wired in parallel for the Front Center Channel (don't worry, it's only drops the resistance to around 3 ohms and works great since the front center channel is so important in a home theater). The "Center ChanneI" is the two speakers on top from both sides and the Front L/R and the 2 bottom speakers.I have the amp set to feed all the P4s 80hz and above frequencies and the sub for everything below. I am also using a Yamaha 5 channel home theater receiver that puts out about 65w/channel and can handle low ohm speakers. This setup is just superb for a 24ft x 14ft den.I cannot express enough just how good these speakers are, not just the value they represent, but just excellent sounding speakers. They are very smooth, with great detail, and forgiving speakers that have a great upper and mid range and handle lower frequencies very, very well for such a small speaker. You could probably spend 10 times what this setup cost and I doubt you could hear much difference. Highly recommend!!
The quality and the finish (bamboo) of the speakers are amazing. I use them for front top channels. The sound is good and the mid and high frequencies are very clear. The only think that push me to give not full 5 star is that the low cut off frequency regarding Denon Audyssey is bad. In the specification of the speakers is written Frequency response 58Hz-22kHz, but there is not information about how db floatation .I expected to be 3db, but is seems that is not. After the acoustic tests with Denon (AVR-X3600H) dedicated microphone the low cut off frequency for P4 was 100Hz. The same cut off freq was indicated with another model of Denon too (AVR-X2100w). The rest speakers (other manufacturers) cut off freq was exactly regarding there specifications. This tell me ... MoreThe quality and the finish (bamboo) of the speakers are amazing. These are outstanding speakers for the money. The bamboo finish is worth the extra cost. The speakers are beautiful and functional. I do wish they came with grilles, even if they were optional. Sometimes I don't want to stare at a large amount of negative space. A grille would be preferable. That is the only downside—these pair well with any quality amplifier, including AudioEngine's own N22 amplifier.
I use thes speakers as PC (cutom build NUC|) desktop speakers combined with a hogh quality NOS DAC (Metrum Acoustics - Wireworld USB and Kimber cable). Sounds really well especially for near field listening considering the price. For my choice of music (mostly jazz and blues) the minor lack of deep bass does not bother me at all. And they are awesome looking (bamboo). The rubber desktop stands strongly recommended.
I have a desktop setup with the A5+ speakers and S8 subwoofer. Sound stage is wide despite speakers so close to one another. Plenty of power and mids, highs are full yet crisp. 8 years later I was in need of some bookshelf speakers for my small one car garage now converted to a mini gym during quarantine. I’m a loyal Crutchfield fan and looked at many small speakers in the $300 range. None seemed to have the build quality of Audioengine. Crutchfield for some reason did not have these so I ordered direct. Arrived quickly and superbly packaged. Set up with my new Yamaha WXA-50 music streamer and listened. My first imp was something was not set up correctly as there was no volume, no depth. My UE Boom was twice as loud as what I was getting form my new set up. My first imp was something was not set up correctly as there was no volume, no depth. My UE Boom was twice as loud as what I was getting form my new set up. After checking everything I found no problems. Unfortunately I am limited on space and have no other placement options for the speakers. I’m not sure If the issue could be that these speakers are rated 6ohm and my streamer specs show 8ohm. So long story short, I’m not very happy with the weak sound I’m getting from these. Especially compared to the A5 setup. And I’m not even talking about base, I understand that would be lacking without a separate subwoofer. There is just NO soundsta
