For me (the matriarch!) to my eight great grandchildren, this book is a little treasure. It's literary use of imagery is very moving and the story would touch any heart. Unforgettable!

"Blueback" was purchased for a milestone birthday. My twin nephews are turning ten in May this year and since they're both interested in sea life, I thought this book would be an ideal present.

It's a simple story, yet makes for both compelling reading and a fair warning. In essence, it's about a son, his mum, the seaside town and the threat of development that knocks at the door, poised to kill the fishing industry and the big fish known as Blueback.

Grandson read it in one day then our son enjoyed his first fiction book in 20 yrs👏🏼
These books have been chosen for my great grand children's birthday and Christmas
I'm reading this to book to my year 5 students and they are totally captivated by it. The storyline is engaging and the imagery is built around a vibrant use of vocabulary. I also enjoyed the read for myself for all the same reasons.
Blueback is a confusing, boring novel where there is no main plot. It's really like a snapshot of the protagonist Abel's life and his home, Longboat Bay. Abel's friend and the Blueback the big groper, also plays a big role in this novel but has no personality. Over the course of this novel, Abel and his mother encounter misadventures and hardships trying to change or destroy their home, Longboat Bay. In conclusion, this novel doesn't really seem like a novel, but a collection of short stories that are somewhat linked to each other.
This book is probably one of the best books we have read this year. The reason I didn' rate it 5 stars is probably because the ending is kind of a trashy ending. Besides the cons, there are a lot of pros. Great book. Highly reccomend it
This book is completely unoriginal and needs to slow down. It was like cramming in all of the lord of the rings in one 300 page book. Could be a good book for environment enthusiasts.
Tim Winton's Blueback is the story of three generations of the Jackson family, their home on the mythical Longboat Bay, its waters, reefs and the giant groper Abel Jackson befriends as a child.Written primarily for children, but adults will also enjoy this book
