Previously I had bought the Autoglym headlight cleaner kit (also from Halfords) and had been very impressed. Was very effective. This wheel cleaner, however, seemed cheap and ineffective in comparison. I think I’d been as well off just washing the wheels with normal soapy water. Certainly would go for a cheaper competitor product first. Weirdly, even the way the spray came out of the bottle was unsatisfying. Kind of dribbled out. Not what you’d expect from a premium brand / product used by what looks like every single member of the royal household! :(

Usually a fan of most Autoglym products but this one has a specific catch. It's acid based. if you read Autoglyms explanation of this product they say acid based products are miss understood and still have a place. That's as maybe, but they do also state to not use this on what are now common wheels, diamond cut. My wheels aren't such a type, personally I hate them, but what my wheels do have is a ceramic coating, whichYou are meant to use this type of wheel cleaner on. Like I said, probably fine on average powder coated wheels, but be aware of this caveat.
I am a big Autoglym fan, the product does exactly what it states and made light work of my lightly soiled alloy wheels.....thumbs up Autoglym :). Here's the down side, I have used cheaper alloy wheel cleaners in the past which have delivered equally as impressive results for half the money! The product like many state does smell pretty bad, that really isn't an issue for me personally but might be to others so be warned. The most disappointing factor however is the cheap mechanism used to apply the product onto your wheel. After 5/6 squirts you may as well throw the spray gun into the bin. The chemicals must melt/ destroy the mechanism and renders it completely useless. I bought this product about a month ago. My wheels are white so it’s tough to maintain a clean wheel. Unfortunately, this product didn’t do a good job. The product didn’t breakdown any grime or dirt that was on the wheels. After I applied the spray on the wheels it just ran off. So when I began to scrub and rinse, the wheels were still dirty. Another downside was that the product had a bad scent. It smelt quite bad. Obviously that will be down to the ingredients in the liquid. But it wasn’t pleasant when using the product. I wouldn’t recommend this product. It didn’t breakdown any grime or dirt. The quantity of the product ran out after one or two washes.
I purchased this a while and forgot about it, carrying on with my Billberry wheel cleaner and pooorboys sealant- until I discovered it on the shelf yesterday.I was dubious as I am a big fan of the bilbrry cleaner and poorboys sealant, so I didn't think I could get a better clean and shine. I applied twice- spraying and buffing off each coat.The finished effect is a high shine, which really improves the finish on the alloy wheel. It feels as good as water. Doesn’t loosen up brake dust.Trigger is very inconvenient to use. Not worth money.
I can only give my opinion here so take it as you will.If your alloys are new DO NOT use this product.Most wheel cleaners are very acidic and over time will have a bad effect on your alloys clear coat.My advice is to stay on top of your wheels. Clean with a micro fibre cloth and a good quality shampoo then finish with some sort of wheel sealant.If your alloys are older and have a lot of dirt and brake dust build up then this isn't bad. Will get most of the dirt off and cleans just by spray, wait and rinse with water but still need to scrub for those sticky stain.Might have unpleasant odour when used specially if rims or brake are hot.Always wear gloves, long sleeves and eye protection.
