I loved the original color care shampoo. I used it for several years. When Aveda discontinued it, I was very disappointed bc the it was gentle on my hair with a very light if any fragrance and did not bother my allergies. I bought the NEW replacement color care shampoo , shocked at how strong the fragrance was - very overpowering root type smell. My hair did not feel clean and my allergies went insane. I gave the bottle to my mother and sister to try bc I could not use it. My mother's scalp had a major allergy to it and my sister told me her hair started to fall out after a few shampoos. I'm very disappointed in you Aveda. I use to use many products in your line, but sadly they have all been discontinued with less than stellar replacements. You also dc'd the Damage ... Those were my last 2 products I used and now will have to look for other brands for shampoo and conditioner.

Restating what other reviews have said. I've been using Aveda products exclusively for my haie for over 20+ years. I was cautiously optimistic when I went into my Aveda salon and saw the change from Color Conserve, which I LOVED. However, after the first use, I was disgusted as my eyes burned, the shampoo is thinner and doesn't foam as much so you have to use twice as much, and the scent is reminiscent of a chemical factory. And I don't have sensitive skin or eyes!! This reformulation of Color Control has me wondering where Aveda is headed with future products:(How a company that capitalizes on being more organic "plant-based" than others, can push into production a product that burns anytime it gets close to my eyes is concerning. I felt compelled to write this review after seeing so many negative ones. First off, I've been coloring my hair for over 30 years (I'm well into my 50's) and have been an Aveda customer for almost as long. I've used cheap brands and expensive brands but became a devoted Color Conserve user. When Aveda upgraded to Color Control I too was skeptical and unsure if this new version was going to keep me as a customer. Well-- Upgraded it is-- and then some!! My color lasts well into 3 weeks before I see ANY fade. Especially at the root line where the gray seems to fade out more than the length. It cleanses my hair without drying it out, rinses clean and the fragrance is absolutely wonderful; refreshing and a nice change from the Color Conserve. I am writing this after ... If you're unsure of this product, I encourage you to purchase a trial size and give it your own try out. I felt reviewers were just dumping on a new innovation before giving it a fair chance. Great Job on this one Aveda!

First of all, a lot of negative reviews are for smell. I LOVE this smell, best smelling shampoo I've ever used. Though smell is entirely subjective in nature. It has a darker, unique, fragrant smell, contrary to the popular light, floral fragrance of other shampoos. Keeps my hair SO SMOOTH and SOFT it's been 3 weeks since I've had my hair colored it looks so good (my colorist is fantastic & she recommended this and uses it on her clients), no fading, shiny. I've read some reviews that said it makes hair oily I have thin hair that tends to look greasier quicker, I just make sure that I rinse my hair well after and I can go 3 days without washing and I'm usually an every day washer because I hate looking greasy.. but my hair still smells and looks fresh especially ... Though I will say I have never used color conserve. I have used the nutriplenish though and I definitely favor this!
I came to this website to shop for a shampoo to replace my liter of Color Control. I'm glad I decided to read the reviews of this product because I thought it was just me disliking this new formulation. Not so, after reading a few pages of reviews. I like the new scent. I don't like that I need to use 3 times the amount that I needed with Color Conserve just to get it to lather. I don't like how my hair feels after using Color Control. My hair has no body, and I have very thick hair. I thought it was the latest cut I got from my stylist but no, it's the shampoo. I've been using Aveda products for 44 years and Color Conserve was my favorite product. I'm puzzled as to why such a popular, winning product has been reformulated. I won't use it. I'm tossing an almost full liter. This is disheartening. I hope Aveda that you will consider bringing back Color Conserve and let the customer decide which of the 2 works best for them. I'm sorry I don't like this product and that I'm leaving a bad review but you need to know.
I recently tried Color Control after using Color Conserve for well over 10 years. I was hesitant to try it because of the bad reviews, but the live chat agent convinced me it was best for my hair (lots of long, fine, straight, very porous hair). It does nothing that Color Conserve used to do for my hair. Color Conserve made my hair healthy and sleek without being weighed down, and I had less breakage and split ends; my stylist would say keep doing what you're doing because it's great for your hair. But Color Control doesn't lather much, makes my hair feel greasy and heavy at the roots and dry on the ends with more split ends, makes my scalp itch, and doesn't help with frizz in humid weather like Color Conserve did. We're paying more for less product and poorer performance. I'm not sure which shampoo to try next, because based on the reviews, not many customers are happy with the reformulated version of any shampoos Aveda carries. Please bring back Color Conserve! I want to remain a loyal customer, but I can't with the current offering of shampoo products!
This is the first time I've been disappointed with an Aveda product. I'm a huge fan of the previous Colour Conserve shampoo. Unfortunately for me, I bought my usual jumbo size before realizing that this wasn't just a bottle design revamp but a complete reformulation. Double misfortune that Aveda changed their return policy at the same time and no longer accepts returns at their stores; meaning I'm on the hook for return shipping on a heavy, 1-litre bottle if I want a refund. The old formula is gentle while effectively cleaning even greasy, day 5 hair; but forget using this new formula on day 3, let alone later. This formula is heavy, the artificially fruity scent is overwhelming and it leaves a RESIDUE on your hair. Worst of all, I can't get a clean head of hair, even with triple repeats; which is a waste of product, a waste of time, and it's a needless stress on my hair. Even after a triple wash with this new formula, I had to reach for another shampoo to finish the job. Such a DISAPPOINTMENT. Please bring back the old formula; it was perfect. This product is awful.
Bring back Color Conserve!!! Aveda, WHAT are you thinking and WHY??? Why do you keep taking your fabulous products and reformulate them into an inferior product that is repackaged into a smaller bottle with a bloated price tag??? I'm glad I had samples of this one included in a recent Aveda order and didn't have to shell out the money. It is awful! I have always appreciated Aveda's products because a little goes a long way. I used a very small amount of the shampoo on very wet hair and got hardly any lather. (Sulphate-free is a sorry excuse for not having a lather. There are plenty of sulphate-free shampoos that produce a nice lather.) I agree with other reviewers who say it does not clean my hair and definitely leaves a greasy-feeling residue and looks even more ... MoreBring back Color Conserve!!! There are plenty of sulphate-free shampoos that produce a nice lather.) I agree with other reviewers who say it does not clean my hair and definitely leaves a greasy-feeling residue and looks even more awful the next day (when I skip washing and use Shampowder). My (sweet) daughter even commented on the greasy look! Not only this, but it seemed to emphasize the darker parts of my blonde hair - which is NOT the look I am going for! I just had my hair lightened (balayage) to brighten it up. I used this shampoo twice over the course of 4 days and I literally had nightmares about how bad my hair looked. Thankfully, I have half a bottle of Color Conserve left, which I used today and WOW - it makes my hair shiny, bright, and looks amazing. Of course, Aveda gave us no warning of discontinuing Color Conserve and so I was unable to stock up which I feel sick about. One more thing, I find it very suspicious that nearly ALL of the 4 and 5-star reviews were "Submitted as part of a free sample program." What's that all about?! If you read carefully you can see that many of those reviewers don't even use Aveda regularly. The honest reviews from faithful Aveda customers fall in the 1 and 2 star range. I'm very disappointed.
I wish I could give zero stars. How Aveda could discontinue the Color Conserve product and think that the Color Control product is a suitable replacement is beyond me. There is absolutely no comparison between the two products. The former was luxurious, had a wonderful scent, and worked well with my hair. The new product is thin, doesn't have the nice scent of the other product, and leaves my hair dry. The only other product that I could possibly use instead of the Color Control is the Chamomile shampoo which was also discontinued. I have used Aveda products for over 30 years and hate to think that I am going to have to find another line that works with my hair. The salon I used for over 30 years had to close. I have used Color Conserve for years, decades maybe. It worked. Worked well. New stylist even commented that my color never seems to fade. Had to change to this since for some reason you discontinued Color Conserve. It is no where near the same, Not even close. The smell, consistency, and lather effect changed. The smell is ok, I can deal with that. But I have to wash 3x for my hair to even feel somewhat clean! I can no longer go 3-4 days between washings because it is not getting cleansed enough when I wash it. To make matter worse, the bottle size shrunk! This bottle is 6.7 oz instead of 8 oz. And I am using more of it! I didnt even realize it when I ordered, I just assumed it was same size. So I decided to go back to the tried and true Shampure, then just read ... I have religiously used Aveda since the 80s. Not just shampoos and conditioners but I think I have used just about every styling product. I even stuck with you after you discontinued Hang Straight which was THE BEST straightening creme ever. I transitioned to Naturally Straight and now you have discontinued that too as well as the whole product line.At this point I may have to break up with Aveda after 30+ years.
