It comes in an aluminium tube and the texture is like an ointment compared to the Tolerance soothing skin recovery cream which feels more like a lotion. Both spread well but I personally feel that the latter is more greasy and occlusive (feels like the layer is forever sitting on my skin unless I use only the tiniest amount). I tolerate benzoyl peroxide very well but there’s always one spot on my face that doesn’t and always burns, I find that Cicalfate heals the spot and calms the redness quite well. If you have oily skin, they both work well as a spot treatment in thin layers, if not they might clog your pores.

When my skin is red, dry, or irritated, I apply the cream overnight and next morning morning it's so hydrated and smooth. I also like to apply it in the mornings as a moisturiser, although I usually need to reapply in my dry spots - the corners of my nose etc. My one complaint would be that immediately after applying it my skin feels very oily and unpleasant for about 15 minutes, but after that it absorbs and feels much nicer. However, it is quite a heavy cream so you will still feel it on your face throughout the day. The photos are my skin before and after the cream (but it's opposite cheeks which is why the moles are different).

I was dealing with persistent perioral dermatitis for around 6 months... I tried several products but none helped. This product cured me!! After a week of consistent use, the irritation completely cleared up and I haven't had any problems since then. I still use this stuff often for other things - it's great for dry skin or any irritation. I use it for anything healing - acne spots, hangnails, scratches, etc. It really does speed up the healing process. I will continue to repurchase even though my perioral dermatitis is gone. Holy grail!!

This hand cream is the gold standard for me. It is unscented, and the slight inoffensive odor disappears quickly as it is absorbed. It is non-greasy, absorbs fairly quickly, and like other Avène products I have tried and loved, does exactly what it says it does.Living in a harsh winter climate, I used to struggle with cracked, split skin on my fingertips as soon as the temperature dropped below freezing. great for perioral dermatitis or any kind of skin flare up. nourishing and healing. preferred it to the other well known version of this by another brand. the other one stung a little around my mouth but this did not. if you have a reaction this will help it to settle. it is a little thick but intentionally so, so it can form a barrier to help your skin heal. has some white cast. helps with the itching and stinging.
