Avène Thermal Spring Water originates from rain and travels through the Cévennes Mountain aquifer for 50 years before being bottled in the village of Avène. Its soothing and anti-irritating properties have been validated through therapies at the Avène Hydrotherapy Centre, effectively helping with atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and burns. Numerous studies have confirmed its benefits, including relief from redness, itching, and irritation, and revitalising skin. It is suitable for babies, children, and adults with sensitive skin or eczema. This water stands out due to its unique mineral composition, which is low in minerals and has a neutral pH, containing bicarbonate, calcium, magnesium, and beneficial trace elements. The Pierre Fabre Laboratories have discovered that it also possesses a unique microflora, Aqua Dolomiae, which enhances its soothing properties. Dr. Webster recommends Avène Thermal Spring Water for its consistent mineral composition that softens skin.

I purchased this recently because I've been experiencing redness, burning, stinging, and overall sensitivity on my face for a while. I'm on tret and believe reintroducing other actives too fast and too frequently, as well as under moisturizing and under reapplying sunscreen has led me to the state I'm at now with my skin barrier. I'll also add I believe I have undiagnosed rosacia, due to genetics, and am allergic to all fragrances and essential oils. After doing a lot of research I decided to give this product a try, as well as make other appropriate adjustments to my routine in an effort to achieve some calmness. So far I've been using it for a little over a week and am feeling better. I don't know if the spring water is helping but it's not hurting at all. I apply it morning and night after face washing. I don't know if I can attribute my healing skin barrier to this because I've simplified my routine and am careful in applying nourishing products and moisturizing constantly now. I do notice less irritation and less redness. I am glad I tried it. The nozzle really impressed me. It comes out in a super fine mist rather than giant drops of water landing on your face. I don't regret buying it, but do wish it wasn't so pricey. The good thing is I purchased the big can and it'll probably last me until winter so it might be worth the price after all.

Is this glorified water? Possibly. But it’s such a nice product to use, and the spray is fantastic. I like to use this before applying hyaluronic acid on my face and my hands, and it works well really. I could use regular water in a spray bottle, but let’s be honest - I’m too lazy to do that, and most spray bottles suck (not to mention, the cleaning required to keep it a DIY product germ free is a serious hassle). Also, I find regular water can be a little drying, and this doesn’t seem to have regular water effects. Maybe because it’s not regular water. I don’t know. But I love using this, and I will continue to rebuy for the 1) experience 2) convenience and 3) versatility of the product.

Bad nozzles have ruined this once great product.
4 February 2024

I have used this Avene spray for years. Every once in awhile I would get a can with a bad nozzle meaning a split spray stream. No mist just 2 thin streams of liquid that go everywhere BUT where I want the spray to go. I've been ordering from Amazon but after the last few times consistently getting bad nozzles, I decided to order directly from Avene. I purchased 2 containers and the first had the split stream. I used up the can quickly which isn't hard to do when you have to keep spraying and spraying to wet your entire face. I was looking forward to the other can which I was sure would work. Nope. This one is even worse. A 3 way split stream. Is Avene going to start looking for other nozzles, or do I start looking for another mineral spray?

I purchased this spray initially after an allergic reaction to medication caused a exzema/ dermatitis type rash. Other facial sprays I had did not help and other products I tried only added to the irritation. This spray did not irritate the inflammed and sensitive areas at all and provided much needed relief. My skin was tight, flakey and very inflammed and this provided instant relief from that stretching/burning sensation. I used this repeatidy throughout my day and it was great. The spray was easy and comfortable to use and was very hydrating. It done wonders in helping the skin recover and I continue to use this now regardless. Great Product but Nozzles Malfunction
17 October 2024

I have been using this product for about 9 years. I use it several times daily, after my micellaire water and just to refresh my face throughout the day. In the last year, nearly every single can I've purchased has had a defective nozzle that sprays in all different directions except in a straight stream on the face. It sprays on my hair and on my clothes. I've contacted the company and they said that the minerals sometimes clog up the nozzle and to try cleaning it. That doesn't help. I'm very frustrated with this product and I waste a lot because it sprays all over. I occasionally use Vichy or LaRoche-Posay thermal water and their nozzles never malfunction. I think Avene needs to seriously look at redesigning their delivery mechanism.

I started taking Isotretinoin when I was 11. Yep. I was at my "last resort" step very young (and school was great for me and I totally didn't get bullied relentlessly, thanks for asking /s). I distinctly remember being at a dermatologist doing extractions at that age or possibly at 12, and seeing Avene posters on the wall. The derm recommended a few products for me to my mum, and she was like "so it's water in a can? Maybe we will stick with the other stuff"I think I was at the tennis at some point during my teens (Australian Open possibly? Can't remember the year) and because we had some corporate box we got gift bags. Again, Avene with the tiny spray bottle of water. "It's water in a can" I thought. And never used it.Well I'm almost 31, and after going through IVF I did a number on my skin. I was so totally convinced I was going to be pregnant soon so stopped topical tret and switched to 20% azelaic acid. That plus hormones going wild plus me stress eating food that's probably best described as "food-like substance, possible to eat but ideally - just don't" AND wearing makeup to work again had left my skin very angry and pimply and red and oily and basically anything you could possibly not want was on my face right now. And I didn't get pregnant either.I was in chemist warehouse at the registers getting my meds that keep the last threads of my sanity reasonably intact and saw this on a shelf. "2 for $19". "It's water in a can," I tell myself, "but let's be real I spent 12K on something that doesn't exist so what's the harm in spending $19 on 600ml of fancy spray water?".I get it home and I use it a few times a day for a week.If this water isn't some black magic, I swear to God.My redness is gone, my skin is soft, I don't resemble an oil rig covered in barnacles any more. I'm honestly quite shocked.Sorry to my old derm for our resistance to purchasing Eau Thermale around 20 years ago, and sorry to my bank account for making this a regular purchase in the future.

Lovely mist of pure water and nothing extra
5 August 2023

When I first discovered Avène this spray seemed pretty much like a gimmick to me, although they did state there was clinical research demonstrating the effectiveness of the mineral composition to calm redness, so I thought I would give it a try. I wouldn’t say it’s like a miracle, but it is extremely refreshing to use any time, and extremely effective in helping the products I apply to go further/need less, as well as noticeably helps to cause the products to absorb into my skin. There is a stark difference when I apply a serum or moisturizer without this mist (tacky, much remains on surface of skin and takes longer), versus with the thermal spring mist (smooth coverage of product, quick absorption and very nice texture on surface of skin after). I know there are plenty of other hydrating mists on the market, I have some that I really like, but buying more and more products from Avène to care for my sensitive and reactive skin, I find that I am more wary of using the other hydrating mists I have liked in the past, because they contain fragrances and other ingredients (some really great, some that are likely just for the overall formulation and not specifically for skin care). The thermal spring mist, however, is *just* mineral water. It feels very cool and refreshing, and since it has no other ingredients in it, i know I can use it any time and not worry about crossing a threshold of ingredient application on my sensitive skin. The spray mechanism on the bottle has a lot of power, and I only need a couple light touches to fully cover my face and neck which is great, because I know this bottle will last a while. I really, really like it and will keep using it!

Not your average water

I had to comment after reading the review that says it's just water and we're all getting scammed. This isn't your average tap water. I never would have tried it until I got a free can in a set. Even then, it went under my sink and was ignored until a particularly dry winter in Denver. I don't know how, but this water turned my skin around in a matter of days. It's now the first step of my skincare routine year round and my skin had never felt better. Bonus if you live in a dry climate like me-it dries completely in maybe 30 seconds, no waiting a few minutes and patting dry. And just for science, I tried filtered tap water in a fine mist bottle for a few weeks. It feels as refreshing, but it doesn't leave my skin as soft and hydrated. Avene sprayed on just-cleansed skin feels soft and hydrated for at least 30 minutes (the longest I've been distracted and forgotten to move into the next step).

I also was thrown into medically induced menopause and so was having raging hot flashes. I came across the small size of this in my drawer one day and I thought it couldn't hurt to just use it to help me cool my face down during hot flashes. This was the beginning of my obsession with this product. It not only is perfect for cooling yourself down during any kind of hot flash, it is especially cooling on the back of your neck during a hot day or when you've got a sunburn, it feels amazing especially on skin that is sensitive and tender. I had literal burns from my radiation on my back, my skin had crisped up like chicken skin when you cook it and cracked off so I knew I had to use something that was not only gentle but not full of harmful chemicals to make my burn feel worse. This felt amazing on it, even more so than the prescription ointments I was given to heal my skin. Now I am 3 years in remission, and I have cans of this everywhere. I literally mean everywhere. I keep one in a cup holder on my bicycle, I keep them in my gym bag obviously, there's one on my nightstand, my vanity, in my living room, in my shower, and I keep one tucked behind my cooking utensils in the kitchen for when I am slaving over a hot stove. I love all of the sizes, but my favorite size is the largest size because the mister feels like you stepped into a light spring mist, it is definitely the lightest of the sprayers and I really enjoy how soothing the whole process is for my skin. All that said, I use it before serums and moisturizers and I feel that this has greatly improved my facial skin. When I've not had it my skin feels dryer and looks noticeably duler and more flakey.I find it on sale everywhere, enough to have never purchased it at full price. I just bought two of the large bottles in the most recent sale and those alone without all of the supplemental small cans I have everywhere would last at least 6 months even using it probably 6 to 8 times a day like I do.I've even gifted cans to family members, my niece especially likes it she says it cools and really helps calm down her eczema.
