Baby Brezza Formula Pro Advanced Dispenser

I was very hesitant to purchase the baby Brezza because of the price tag even though I had several friends tell me it’s a must have! My friends called it the Keurig of baby formula. I purchased it during their Black Friday sale and I do not regret it! It makes bottle making so fast and so easy. When your baby is screaming crying at 3 in the morning and all you have to do is push a button to make a bottle, you will be thanking yourself! I fill it with nursery water and formula about once a day or every other day, and the rest is magic! It warms and mixed bottles perfectly. There are 3 different heat settings and every size from 2 to 10 ounces available to select. The only things that are slightly a pain are cleaning the filters after every four uses. I absolutely recommend buying additional filters, I have 3 total which has been helpful. 4 bottles goes by very quickly. My only other complaint is some of the powder formula does get wasted by sticking to or falling out of the funnel during changes. It’s hard to see any amount of formula be wasted even if it’s a very small amount because formula is so expensive and hard to come by during the shortage. Despite these minor complaints, the baby Brezza is the first thing I recommend to all my friends who are pregnant. I show it off to all my family members who come to visit the baby and they are so impressed, all the older women I know remark that they wish they had this “back in the day”. The baby Brezza is without question worth the money!

Just as impressive is the ability to, at the push of a button, thoroughly clean, sterilize, and dry the bottles, nipples, and binky, Looking back at how I cleaned and prepared formula filled bottles for my other five children more than 16 years ago brings back memories of how despite best intentions there was no effective way to sterilize and make perfect temperature formula that was clump free. Back then as an OB/GYN doctor I knew the importance of preparing the formula correctly and maintaining a sterility but unfortunately the tools available at the time made such efforts monumental. Sure you could say my five children survived without these fancy machines but the reality is that perhaps I could’ve avoided the colic, belly aches, diarrhea, and other challenges that very well could be associated with poorly mixed formula and less than ideal sterility. These days with Covid as well as all of the exposures to allergens and the genetic predisposition that has created widespread problems with methylation and malabsorption, you simply cannot afford to take any chances and the techniques being used by the sterilization device and formula dispenser are very reminiscent of what we use in surgery for cleaning and preparing instruments to minimize risk of infection. I rest much easier at night not only due to the fact that feedings are incredibly easy things to this technology but more importantly I know that I really am achieving a new standard of stability that was otherwise not possible back in the old days. As a parent of six children I highly recommend the formula pro advanced as well as the one step sterilizer dryer as a way to save precious sleep time. As a doctor I think that these amazing tools are a must in ensuring the health and welfare of your baby.

Overtime, we started making more ounces of formula because my newborn continued to show signs of hunger and would cry for more. He was constantly hungry. It got to the point where we were feeding my baby 7 oz every 2-3 hours at 3 weeks old, not realizing that’s how much a 4 month old eats. My baby was constantly hungry and peeing through his diapers every 20 minutes.At my baby’s checkup a few weeks later, I mentioned to the pediatrician that he’s drinking 7 oz and still showing hunger cues… she nearly fell out of her chair in shock, as a baby’s stomach at that age isn’t big enough to hold 7 oz of formula every 2 hours. She asked how it’s possible he’s eating that much and said he should only be eating 2-3 oz at his age. We mentioned we’ve been using the brezza and she told us to stop using it immediately. She said she tells ALL of her patients to stop using the brezza due to concerns of the accuracy of the formula consistency. For his next feeding, I manually mixed the recommended amount of formula listed on the Enfamil canister, and it was much more thicker in the bottle (it seemed a lot less watery).I saw on the brezza website that you can check to see if the brezza is dispensing the formula accurately by catching the formula in a baggy and then weighing it on a scale. Then, you weigh the correct amount of scoops and compare the weight.Right now, my baby is drinking 4 oz of water mixed with 2 scoops of formula (which is the recommended amount on the Enfamil packaging, and that’s what the pediatrician recommended, as well). So I weighed 2 scoops of formula on a scale, which was 17 grams. I then set the water amount to 4 oz on the brezza (with powder setting 6) and caught the amount of formula that was dispensed with a baggie. I weighed the formula from the brezza on a scale, and it was only 4 grams (compared to the recommended amount of 17 grams). That’s only 23% of how much my baby should have been getting for 4 oz of water!My pediatrician said this is an issue because my baby hadn’t been getting the needed nutrients for neurological development and organ maturation. He was basically just drinking water every day, all day… this is why he was continuously hungry and trying to eat more and more! He wasn’t getting full meals throughout the day!I’m concerned about my baby’s mental and physical development due to the lack of nutrients he had been getting for weeks. I trusted this product because they ensured accuracy checks on their website. My mother-in-law has a baby brezza at her house, and hers isn’t dispensing the correct amount of formula either… the bottles are very watery, as well. I’ve seen concerns by others who are claiming to experience the same issue. A baby’s development is very important, so I’m not taking this issue lightly. Please please please check and make sure your machine is dispensing the correct amount of formula when you receive this product, if you do decide to get it.

Since we started using the brezza and month ago, I’ve been testing the accuracy per the manufacturer’s website every week. Initially it was close enough I felt comfortable using, but the last two have been off by 2+ grams. We follow cleaning instructions verbatim and not only clean and dry the funnel after every four bottles but also wipe the underneath where the powder disperses from the holder. We also ensure the powder is well over the minimum line to no avail. Another issue that turned me off to using the machine was the poor cleaning instructions. The BIG problem is that too little formula is dispensed. There should be 8.6 g per every 2 oz of water but ours was consistently dispensing 7.2 g. The formula being made was far too dilute. If we had continued with this, we could be facing serious health issues due to unsafe formula preparation. (We tested everything in triplicates, tested at different times over different days). I reached out to customer service for a refund and generally warm of the dangers of this machine and all they offered was an exchange (not even a full refund) which is preposterous! I am obviously never trusting a baby brezza product again. They claim it is more accurate than making a bottle by hand but that simply is not true. I thoroughly do not understand how they are able to sell such a machine that poses such a risk to babies and are so nonchalant when their machines are faulty. I am super disappointed and concerned.

I bought the baby brezza after 6 weeks of making formula bottles by hand and finally got fed up with the inevitable powder that would end up on my counter tops, the scoop getting covered in powder and my baby screaming while I tried as quickly as possible to make a bottle with the correct number of scoops/determining what a half scoop was in the middle of the night. My hope was that this machine would magically solve all of this as advised by many friends and reviews I read online. After using for about two weeks now, it solves some problems while creating others. This is externally inconvenient in the middle of the night. There is hardly any powder that needs to be cleaned off after 4 bottles and I should be able to clean the machine when convenient vs being forced to when it’s not. Also the filter is very hard to unhook from the machine and requires two hands (again inconvenient when holding your crying baby there really should be an eject button) and it actually cut my thumb yanking it off the other day. Since there is some powder in it it spills little bits on the counter. Even if you have a spare filter it’s still an annoying process that really happens twice a day with a newborn since they’re eating 6-8 times a day. You also have to refill the water about once a day which always happens at a separate time as the filter change along with refilling the formula. I haven’t gotten to the month mark yet but am sure the descaling process won’t be fun. So all in all the maintenance of the machine is a lot and really is just trading in one set of problems for another. I will say for the few bottles a day where the machine doesn’t need anything and you can really just press the button and it works it’s truly bliss. One other thing to note, I have noticed my baby does seem to have increased gas/discomfort but hard to know if that is from the brezza or just growing pains/normal changes but have seen other reviews on this so worth noting.

Well fast forward now, literally 1 month after our warranty has expired, the brezza is making bottles that are completely unacceptable with way too much water. I’m talking 20 mL over. And it is leaking water when not in use. So we either have to make sure the tank is not full when not in use or that we leave a large container under the dispenser to catch the leak. So disappointed. We have done everything we can to try to get the leak to stop. The warranty is not long enough for a product geared towards babies and/or pregnancy. People are obviously buying things like this before the baby arrives. Would not recommend whatsoever. It’s way too expensive to be able to take on this cost and unnecessary worry every time you make a bottle for your precious baby.
