From dragon battles to tea parties, the Backyard Discovery Skyfort II will elevate your children’s imaginations and your landscape. With its sun-soaked clubhouse, roomy porch, and crow’s nest complete with its own telescope, this towering playland will feel like their own wooden castle. And there are plenty of fun, safe ways to move around this personal palace: a full length of monkey bars swings them straight into the raised clubhouse, a challenging rock wall allows them to climb directly onto the porch, and a 305 cm long wave slide slithers them right back down. Need a break from protecting their fortress? Settle onto a relaxing swing or grab a snack at the picnic table. After that, it’s back to ruling their kingdom! All-Cedar Construction The Skyfort II is made from 100% cedar. With small, tight knot structure, your lumber will be less likely to develop small cracks emanating from knots. In laboratory testing, our durable cedar wood proved to be rot resistant and highly resistant to natural decay. All lumber is pre-stained for a smooth and clear appearance, as well as cut and stamped with the part number to help speed up the building process. Some pilot-hole drilling may be required. Our exclusive Safe-T-Fuse hardware makes assembly easy and secure. Its laminated swing beam is built strong, with steel clam-shell brackets to ensure that swinging is always safe.

I was worried because this was made in china and it seems that things from that part of the world do not always meet expectations. Just finished putting this together, took a little more than 16 hours as mentioned in the instruction booklet. There are ALOT of nuts and bolts to sort through when putting this together. Also found issues when it came to putting some pieces together as there are some tricky hole placements you have to make sure are in the right place or you will have to do some taking apart to swap the boards around. Overall, the holes were matched up perfectly and there was no drilling new holes to fix the factory screw-ups. Once you get going with the sections it moves pretty fast. Would highly recommend having at least 3 people. Other than that my son loves it and it is nice in the yard and seems pretty good quality.

Our daughter was sliding and swinging by Sunday evening!I highly recommend the Skyfort II. We sealed it once last September with a water based protectant and will do so once a year to keep it looking great.

We really labored over the decision of which brand and style of playset to buy. WE MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE! This swing set rings with joy from the very moment moment the kids (5,3,3) run outside. The only downside is that the kids are howling with rage when we tell them it's bedtime -- they just want to keep playing! It is a high-quality, easy-to-assemble play set. With detailed preparation and patient assembly, you can put it together yourself. Before starting, sort all the metal elements into little baggies numbered by step. Check all the lumber and make sure it's in good order (we did not have any problems, but checking ahead will yield dividends if any issues arise). And of course, make sure your ground is clear and level before you start -- or you'll have issues ... MoreWe really labored over the decision of which brand and style of playset to buy. We live in Zone 4B (COLD & snowy winters) so we sealed it by hand with multiple coats of a high-quality sealant. It takes time but it's worth it. Our playset is over a year old now and looks fresh and new. It was a bit creaky at first (this is to be expected with fresh lumber) but now it has settled into the earth and is solid as a rock. The glider is perfect for our twins, who are not old enough to pump a swing on their own -- and it gives us adults a break from pushing them for hours at a time! The clubhouse is the perfect place for kids to let their imaginations run wild. We often have all our neighbors over and the whole set brims with kids from age 1 (supervised in the sanbox) up through 12.If you're having a hard time landing on an option, I would say: You can't go wrong with this one. We're loving it (and when the kids are all done, it will have a future life as a very dynamic chicken coop!)

Great Product, but Assembly can be a Challenge

Very pleased with the play set thus far (completed building it in early April 2023). The written instructions were quite detailed and accurate, however, we often referred to the video to ensure our orientation was correct. The written instructions were not as easy to determine the orientation of the pieces that were to be assembled. Also, and this was a real problem that all four of us who were involved in its construction experienced, and that is the identifying part numbers on the wood. Faded black ink on dark brown wood is not at all easy to read; what's more, some pieces were not stamped at all! On a more positive note, the BILT app was amazing!

Great club house and playset

Purchased for our toddlers (aged 1 & 3) for Christmas hoping it would grow with them for years. My husband and I assembled ourselves to save the assembly charge. There instructions were clear and’s mostly easy to follow. Many of the boards were not well marked and difficult to identify. After the first few days of assembly (we did this on combined work breaks, spending a few hours here and there), we ended up sporting the pieces by step (hardware and wood required step by step) and that made assembly slightly quicker. Some of the wood for there decking and walls warped and we had to make a few cuts to make it work. The lumber and hardware were not organized by anything other than fitting it into the boxes, so we opened it all at the onset of our assembly ... MorePurchased for our toddlers (aged 1 & 3) for Christmas hoping it would grow with them for years. We had a couple shipping issues but customer service immediately helped with the problem. The kids love it and my 4 year old says its even better than the playground she has at daycare! It looks great and we look forward to the kids enjoying it for years!Recommendations for other buyers:1. Like others said, do take the time to sort out the materials. The wood is labeled alphabetically and the hardware is labeled numerically. So I sorted all the wood in order alphabetically, this helps because it is packaged in a very random order including not having all the M27s in one box for example. The hardware is labeled by the last 3 numbers in the part number so I organized all the hardware by 100s. Then once I opened a bag I put the remaining in a ziploc bag with a number on it. Some of the part numbers you will use throughout the entire build process so having the hardware easily organized helped speed up the process. Then for each step I had plastic bowl that I would count out the exact pieces I would need for the step. Staying organized throughout the build helped my sanity and kept the build progressing in a timely manner.2. It does take a lot of time. I did as much as I could by myself but there is plenty of times where you will need an extra set of hands just holding stuff as you connect it. I did have a buddy come over on one of the days and we made a lot of progress so I do recommend having two people and it will greatly speed up the process. I lost track of time but I am guessing I had probably close to 40-50 hours myself and help for 10-15 hours.3. Definitely will want a cordless drill and it is worth buying a #3 phillips bit and using a socket bit attachment to speed up the process. Using a ratchet and screwdriver only would add days to the process. A word of caution though the wood is very inconsistent in terms of hardness so use caution with the cordless drill and the torque setting from piece to piece.4. We do not want a sandbox and so we decided to use rubber paver blocks in the area where the sandbox goes. I put down some paver base to create a level surface for the pavers. You can see in the pic below it looks pretty nice without the mess of a sandbox.5. I used both the recommended Bilt App and the paper instructions. The app is great for determining proper orientation and also the correct order of putting in the screws/bolts.6. The instructions are not always the best for telling you when you need to make sure things are square and plumb or if you should not tighten down certain parts because you will need a little flexibility later. Use common sense of where you think it should be tight or not but the good thing is most of the time it was not detrimental to loosen it you it was tight, just prefer not messing with wood screws too much.Recommendations for Backyard Discovery:1. Would like to see the swing beam be at least a foot or more longer. The swings are fairly close to each other and I have some concern as to how often the kids will bump into each other. Because I have Revision A, I hope that if a change is made that it is made available to previous buyers either free or at a minimum cost. I believe changing out the main beam for the swings would be relatively non-invasive to the structure during the disassembly/assembly process.2. Wish they offered a floor option instead of the sandbox. Having a sandbox is not ideal mainly for the difficulty in keeping it clean and free of animal waste so being able to just add a floor to the sandbox area would be a greatly desired option.3. Having an option to reverse the left and right sides of the playset would be awesome. We placed it up against a treeline and so the slide needs to face out into the yard but the lookout deck and telescope just face the house instead of the park that our yard backs up to. It would be awesome if the kids could use the telescope to look at the park instead of just the house.4. Better coordination with the shipping company would have helped with some of the issues we had. I was told they would contact me for a delivery date once it reached the local delivery company. I was surprised to have a truck in my driveway one morning quite unexpectedly especially since the tracking number said that the playset had not even left the main headquarters in Kansas. I was walking out the door to leave on a 3 day work trip when it showed up in my driveway so then luckily my neighbor came over and helped me move it into the garage. Otherwise it would have been sitting in the driveway unprotected until I returned home from work. Apparently due to COVID they don't actually require a signature upon receipt and initially I was missing the slide and we had to track down the delivery guys to get it dropped off later that day. Had they coordinated a delivery date with me I could have avoided a lot of confusion and stress when receiving the shipment.

Pros:- Good size and value for the price.- Looks fantastic (have yet to see how well it holds up over time)- Great layout- Kid loves itCons:- Wood quality is mediocre- Structurally sound, but little to no redundant support.***Building The Thing***I'm moderately handy, and had help for 3 hours out of a total 25 man hours. ORGANIZE YOUR WOOD AND HARDWARE FIRST. Finding parts quickly will save you a huge amount of time, so invest the first 2 hours into organizing properly.I read the various other reviews on this before purchasing, and there were complaints about the instructions which as of 2022's version I did not encounter. In fact, the one time I thought I knew better and had found a mistake in the instructions, I ended up being wrong and having to re-do a bunch of work.***Quality Issues***The only issue with the wood (and this is probably not unique to these kinds of prefab wood kits), is that it's it's quite dry. I imagine this is to avoid expansion/contraction and maintain manufacturing tolerances, but it makes the wood rather brittle. Once assembled it seems reasonably strong, but you'll need to be careful to not over torque bolts and screws as it boards will crack/damage easily. Finally, once fully assembled everything is reasonably secure and structurally sound...but I wish they had overbuilt it a little more. A few more brackets, extra support in case an important board cracks, etc. I can always add that stuff myself, of course.

Skyfort II Playset

Kids like this unit, they enjoy and that's what counts.Took 3 hours to inventory all the boxes and lay out, recommend paying to have this installed if you have the extra 700-900 dollars. However, they were 4 weeks out to schedule, so I put it together with my wife and friend. Recommend icing down a few cases of beer before starting.I set up a tent over a picnic table that held all the hardware and 131 page instruction booklet. Make sure to use the star bit that comes with the unit so bolt heads do not get stripped out. Some of the part numbers on the wood were hard to read and caused additional construction time to verify correct part. The instruction booklet was frustrating at times, some pictures are 3D and hard to tell how the board is facing. This unit took ... MoreKids like this unit, they enjoy and that's what counts.Took 3 hours to inventory all the boxes and lay out, recommend paying to have this installed if you have the extra 700-900 dollars. Heat was a factor in south Louisiana and possibly beer.It was a pain in the butt putting together but worth it to see the kids happy. Hope this helps!

What A HUGE Disappointment

I spent several weeks researching playsets before getting the Skyfort 2 with wave slide. I don't know how this set has so many great reviews. The wood is very thin and many of the boards are warped. Some are also cracked. This made it very difficult to assemble without breaking them. Some pilot holes were in the wrong place and some didn't have any at all. We have a 40 lb 5 year old and 60 lb 7 year old. If only one of them are swinging or in the fort the whole playset just makes the loudest screeching and wood bending noises I have ever heard. It sounds like it's going to come crashing down. I stood under the fort floor and saw the floor boards bending as they walked on them. They are only 100 lbs together so this should not be happening. The slide was bending with their light weight so I had to call customer service and they said they would send a replacement but we aren't letting them on this set. It would need lots and lots of reinforcement and not sure if that would even help. When the kids are both on the glider the whole fort would sway even with anchors. This shows the wellness of the thing as a whole. It took my boyfriend about 50 hours to assemble but we have considered taking it down and sending it back it was so expensive and not worth a tenth of what it cost. I'm so disappointed I could cry. I'd be surprised if this thing lasted 6 months.
