Bauer 5.7 Amp 6 in. Short-Throw Random Orbit Da Polisher/Sander
The BAUER 5.7 Amp, 6 in., 8 mm Short-Throw Random Orbit Dual Action Polisher/Sander is ideal for new users and experienced auto finishers. The random orbit DA polisher delivers ample power across its 6400 OPM range for smooth, swirl-free finishes. Two-way action creates a random orbit pattern for a glass-smooth finish without the risk for unwanted holograms or buffer trails. The short-throw (8mm) action, combined with compact body, make this tool ideal for polishing or sanding in tight spaces where larger polishers require too much space.

1st thing i did was reduce pad size to 5". Works great for this price point. There is a youtube video where this is completely disassembled and gone thru with recommended improvements. He does this with both Bauer models and I highly recommend you find it and view. Best use for this is with a 3" pad kit. Great for narrow spots and especially reconditioning your headlights! Much better control than with a drill kit!. I use this and the larger model for personal use. Those that complain about vibration on these should have had to run the old Black&Decker cast metal 10" grinder on welds all day. Now That wears you out !

The insider price hooked me, great deal. Have the 6" and 10" buffers, but looking for variable speed and changeable pads. First used with plastic-x for head light cleaning. Worked outstanding, the variable speed and pad options helped much. The weight is still yet to be seen on an entire car / truck wax, for fatigue issues or hands. The 10 inch polisher is lighter in weight and works very well for most of the car care needs. The only down side on the DA, is on the higher speeds, (greater than 5) it can be vibration excessive from what I've been used to. For my current jobs nothing over 3.5 has been needed and works well. Durability is yet to be seen, the 6" and 10" buffers have been used for 3 years and still kicking, hoping this new DA polisher, to be just as ... MoreThe insider price hooked me, great deal. This new DA short throw 6" and the 10" buffer, will now be my tools of choice for waxing up and taking off polishes. For cleaner vehicles everywhere, hope this helps others.

Good value, especially when on sale. See several U-Tube reviews. Number one concern is to replace the cheap grease and replace the polishing head. #1 modification - switch to a 5" buffing head & sponges. ( H/F 3" head and use for head light cleaning or tight spaces!) Smaller buffing diameter will give this more torque for the Dual Action (D/A) to work! > #2 after while replace that cheap grease (see U-tube review). I use to run a large B&D all steel industrial grinder - cleaning welds - to me there is negligible vibration. All D/A buffers/sanders will have some. But that is the #1 complaint in on line reviews from pro's who buff cars all day.

I have been looking for something just like this instead of using a 1/2" hammer drill with a side handle or a lighter right angle drill with six inch pads for sanding. There were a few to compare, just a few. Some gadgets like this don't have replacement backing pads, so I avoided those. This one fills the purpose for sanding/refacing old marble walls/floors, wood, or any other labor intensive work where you are carrying the weight of the tool. And it doubles as a car/boat buffer/sander. And there are aftermarket replacement backing pads for this model.
Price was good on the parking lot sale however Vibrations are insane. Can’t use the supplied handle as the vibration are even worse. Hard to turn on and off button. I just tried buffing a hood for less than 15 min and my arms are numb, no pressure, letting the buffer do it’s thing. I’ve got experience with using a rotory buffer from Bauer as well as using multiple grinders etc, never have I ever experienced the amount of vibrations coming from any of them. Will be returning, and looking into a more quality unit. This buffer could be excellent if it wasn’t for the poor placement of the switch, poorly placed speed adjustment dial and should have a place to place your hand above the pad.I lost count how many times my hand accidentally touched the switch. The switch is a rocker type switch that has an auto lock feature.I have used this buffer for about 15 hours so far. It is not fun when I am working on a large panel and my hand touches the switch as then I have to turn down the speed to 2 so that I don’t sling the compound or wax and then try to increase the speed. The switch is also hard to engage sometimes as well.I get frustrated when I am making progress and it turns off. Please revise this switch and your product would be very good. Please revise this switch and your product would be very good. It also needs to have a way to hold onto the body of the machine directly above the pad. Without having a way to hold onto the buffer it is harder to guide. There is a handle that screws into the body, but I am used to having a place to put my hand above the buffer pad.It has plenty of power, but the motor generates a lot of heat when I was using compounds.I would recommend to spend more money and buy a well thought out buffer. For instance, it would be great to have a trigger that can be pulled to spread the compound or wax prior to increasing the speed. If buffing is done correctly the pad should be in constant contact with the panel being buffed, but the placement of the speed dial makes it difficult to increase the speed as the dial is at the end of the handle.
I'd never buffed a car before this. I read this was safer (on the paint) and easier to use, than a traditional rotary buffer, and it is true. This tool is easy to use, and works well with the Bauer foam pads. As other reviews have stated, it does vibrate more than a high-dollar tool, but I can deal with that, since I am not a professional reconditioner. A few times, I bumped the speed dial, and the trigger is not the most ergonomic, but for the great price, I can overlook those issues. Results (see photo) speak for themselves. My black car is 15 years old, and had dull, though sound paint. After using this polisher, with the medium, fine and extra-fine foam pads, and 3M Perfect It EX AC rubbing compound (#36060), I was blown away and the results. I used this to polish lacquer on a table top I built. Table was too big to spray, so I brushed it on. Sanded out the brush marks after 5 coats with 330,800 and 1500 grit. Then used 3 cutting pads and 2 polish pads. The DA polisher was great for this. Never used one before. Some reviews complained about the side handle stripping out. It does come loose but it you hold onto it it will not unscrew. The handle is then able to rotate in your hand as you move it around. I like it this way. I did not have a problem with it bogging down. The directions say not to apply pressure, let the weight of the unit do the work. That worked for me. I used the same compound polish liquid for all the cutting pads. Probably could have used a little bit stronger compound at first but was ... MoreI used this to polish lacquer on a table top I built. On sale for $40 was really what hooked me.
I am new to Harbor Freight and have read both the good and the bad about this retailer. However, I am an avid DIY and I am tired of the high prices at the other big box tool retailers. I wanted to try some of HF tools starting with the Bauer line. So far I am impressed with this random orbiter DA polisher from Bauer. I used it on both of my cars, and It exceeded my expectations. For the price and quality compared to others from the big box tool stores, it cannot be beat. I was so impressed with the tool and the staff at the Bartow, Florida store that I joined the ITC club. I look forward to now using Harbor Freight as my go to tool store. Good buy Lowes and Home Depot.
Note the 90 DAY WARRANTY, use it a lot at first to make sure you don't get a bad one! The first two times I used this buffer, only 1-2 hours each, it worked great. During the third use several months later it failed to turn back on after turning off to move to a different panel. After lots of checking cords, troubleshooting, checking the manual, it finally started working again. By that time it was late so I stopped for the night. Picking up the next day it again would not turn on until messing with it for a while. Once it is running it works perfectly but mine seems to have either a bad switch or some other loose connection internally. This has led me down the tubeYou rabbit hole of servicing and upgrading these buffers. Unfortunately I'm out of warranty or I would ... MoreNote the 90 DAY WARRANTY, use it a lot at first to make sure you don't get a bad one!
