Offers great hold and matte finish, which is a must for me. Also easy to re-style throughout the day. Slight herbaceous scent at first which I prefer over cheap synthetic smells. Baxter's clay and cream pomade have been my go-to for years!

As much as I did not want to say it, this pomade was a fantastic product. Yeah, it doesn’t smell too great. But that’s the only downside. This product is actually a damn good water-based pomade. It has strength, some shine, and doesn’t dry up into a helmet. It will lock-in but not freeze up cement-style. On some days, you really don’t want to fuss with an oil-based…whether you’re lazy, it’s a windy day, or whatever. This product locked in my hair just enough to keep it looking good all day and night, yet not enough to make my hair rock hard. This pomade is all good in my books — definitely a standard that should be in everyone’s cabinet.

This is a review for other Asians who have difficult hair, not the hair models that could make anything work. The product doesn't work well for the average thick Asian hair if you plan to style it against the natural direction your hair grows (e.g. styling your hair back for typical disconnected undercuts, etc.). I've used many hair products to help compensate for my lack of volume. From gel to pomade and even just conditioner, nothing really helped. If I do use product, it seems to wear out easily and won't keep my hairdo I've spent so much time on. I thought I found the right product in the American Crew line, but when I tried this Clay pomade by Baxter, I've never touched anything else. The product itself smells great and can easily be washed out of your hands and hair. It also is kept in a great quality glass container. I like the matte look from this clay pomade and helped keep my hair up throughout the day. I've gotten many compliments on how my hair looks and smells. I take a shower every morning and do my hair, even if I don't go out, because otherwise my hair would annoy the F*** out me and just hang over my face. I usually style after I've changed and towel dried my hair. I find it easier to style when my hair is a little wet, but not damp. If my hair has dried up already, I can just run my hands through the water and shake it around my hair to moisten it up. I like my hair more natural looking and I usually just use my fingers to run my hair back to a more casual and natural comb back style. A little goes a long way. I can run my fingers through my hair throughout the day and still keep the shape I want. I can't do that with anything else. My hair keeps the volume I want and actually keeps it up the whole day. Other products would fail me mid day and even flatten out.Best hair product I've ever used. It has a matte finish that works great with dark hair - doesn't give that shiny/oily look. A little goes a long way with this stuff. Less than 1/4 of the jar has lasted me almost an entire year. When I ride my motorcycle, I hate when my helmet flattens out my hair and stays flat. With other products I've used, I can never get my hair back to the way I wanted. With Baxter's Clay Pomade, I can take my helmet off, run my fingers through my hair no problem, and bring it to the way I wanted without adding anything. I absolutely love Baxter's Clay Pomade. After years of trying various types of products with all types of different hair styles, I can honestly say that this will be the product I will use for the rest of my life.... or until I go bald.

I am on the fence with this clay pomade. On short styles, it can add some texture but it has a weird kinda greasy texture. My hair is pretty wavy and very thick so once I started to get length, it had issues keeping my modern pomp held up. This one also smells bad to me and it did not hold up well for the humidity/heat. I think there are better products - especially at this price point.

Baxter Clay Pomade

This is my first time using anything like this and I would purchase this again. I love this product. It gives great lift and hold with a matte finish. Hairdressers have used gel in my hair but it was not the result I wanted. This Pomade smells great too. It has a Pine scent. It doesn't make you smell like you have cologne on but I just noticed the scent. I use about a dime sized portion everyday. You just rub it between your hands and run your fingers and hand through your hair to put it on. I use it when my hair is very damp and run out of the house. My hair looks great when I get to work. You can restyle your hair with your fingers again during the day if you want to but usually don't have to on account of its holding power.

Decent hair pomade

Love the packaging, and the smell is decent. It gives you a decent amount of hold to your hair. You can also use it on Demi wet hair to achieve a soft hold with glossy look. Definitely recommend.

Expectations Exceeded

This was my first time ordering and using this product. The product received from LovelySkin arrived quickly and is a great quality product! I'm very happy with the ease of styling my curly hair with this product. It provides a moderate hold that last all day but does not leave your hair looking wet or oily. I recommend this product and LovelySkin 10/10.

Great classic product that should be in everyone's bathroom.

I have used Baxters for a while now. It is a classic, unfussy, clay pomade that holds it's shape, allows a fair amount of play and does the job it is supposed to. It is very firm and requires some massaging between the palms to get the best out of it. My hair is growing longer than I have ever had it before and has a while to go before it reaches the lngth I want it. It is also fine so a heavy product can weight it down. With Baxter's balance is everything. Too much and it flattens. Too little - to be honest it still works but is a bit flyaway - so i start with a middle finger wipe, rub it warm and then do a quick fingers through the hair and then style. A jar will last ages. The jar is a thing of beauty. Heavy glass with a simple black lid. It looks classy. The font makes me happy. Such things are important. The fact that it should be in most peoples bathroom helps as well. Like Hans De Fuko (I kid you not) it is a good daily wax. Both need some washing out but I tend to wash my hair every other day anyway so I find I don't need much wax the next day - or if it's a day out with my three year old none at all.

Great styling product

I previously used other brands, such as TIGI bed head wax or American Crew Fiber. Whilst these were good, I personally found that the product was a bit too hard to work into hair and was a bit too sticky. This clay pomade is amazing - melts in your hands very quickly and is easy to apply to the hair. It also keeps the hair soft throughout the day which also lets you adjust the hair style whenever necessary. I believe clay-based products are better for your hair as well, so it's a win-win. Price was cheaper than elsewhere.

Styling essential

Hold is great, not sticky, so long as you use a very small amount and rub into your palms really well to warm up before applying. Best used on dry hair. Allows you to restyle or fix your hair throughout the day, and the hold gets better as the day goes on. A truly matte finish, It's only shiny if you apply too much. I've tried many gels, sprays and putties, and most either don't hold well or make your hair hard and shiny. If you can find it, this particular duo package is the best bang for the buck as it is usually priced the same as the standalone jar, but comes with sample-sized shampoo and conditioner packets.
