I'd bought a vintage Marantz receiver to replace one that had died - lucky find, but no jacks for the record player, so needed a preamp. Knowing nothing at all except the type of plugs it had, I was able to match it to this product and it works beautifully. It's small and I can tuck it away behind the unit, and it was a good price for something that gives such great sound quality. It also can be plugged into mains, which some of the ones on other sites couldn't (they use a 9V battery and reviews say that you chew through the batteries, so the plug in one is good).

Reason I purchased it was that my Receiver/amp died, and replaced with a new one, which after hooking up, could not use the turntable. The new series do not have the Phono pre amp in most as turntables are becoming obsolete. Found this unit to be the answer and works well. Only critique is that there was no real instruction on how to connect for a turntable? Suggest anyone to consider this unit very tidy and comfortable in size, was able to fit into our music unit easily

Excellent quality for the price

My new amp had no phono entry, and my old turntable no preamp, so this was the perfect solution for at home. Sound quality is very good for the price, and better than a lot of inbuilt preamps I've heard.

Fine at the price.
3 February 2021

I purchased this unit to work between my Ariston Q deck and my recently acquired Denon M41DAB cd/radio/amplifier. In this setup the pre amp is working quite adequately. It's performance is not startling but I am sure that I would have to spend rather more for anything better. At the price of this unit, I am quite impressed and would happily recommend it to those who, like myself, are on a tight budget.

Good Phono Stage / Preamp for the price!
1 February 2017

I currently have this connected to my U-Turn Orbit, which is then connected to a SMSL 50w amp and Micca MB42X. Entire set up is definitely a budget set up, but it offers a lot of bang for your buck. Before buying, I've read decent things of about this preamp. Mainly that it is a good preamp for the price, but it's build and QC can be hit or miss. I definitely got a good one. The U-Turn is internally grounded and through my connections, there is no hum when on standby. Overall, it is a decent starter preamp on a budget. If you have more money to spend, I would consider something else (Pluto or Pro-Ject). However, this is a good starter preamp that can be upgraded later.

I brought this after buying two previous phono pre amps and found this one way out performs the other ones by miles. The sound quality is excellent.

The sound quality is excellent and was a really nice surprise as I have used and owned a few different phono pre amps over the last 30 years which come no where near this one for sound quality. There is no hum which I found on other phono pre amps. Well worth the money and a very happy customer here. You can even plug in a set of headphones into the 1/4 output jack without having to use another amplifier however there is no volume control and the output could be fairly loud, but then thats an unexpected bonus and not really what the 1/4 socket is really meant for.

Okay for the Price

After having read several reviews of this preamp, it appeared to be wxactly what I was looking for. Great sound quality at an affordable price. I must say, I was a little diappointed when I hooked up this preamp today and threw a couple of Lp's on my Technics SL-1200MK2. I first connected the turntable directly to the preamp and the preamp to my receiver. There was almost no white noise, but the EQ was terrible. The low end was very muddy and the highs were very tinny. So I decided to run my turntable through my Technics SH-8030 graphic EQ and then the EQ to the preamp. Not only did this increase the white noise significantly, it also made the highs even more tinny. I played several different Lp's to get an idea of the sound quality of this preamp, and I think if you're someone who doesn't really care about the issues I have mentioned, it's a good product for the price. My turntable honestly sounded better through my old Yamaha receiver from the 80's than it does through this preamp. The only reason I'm keeping it is because I have a smaller living room and don't have the room to set up my Yamaha receiver with my turntable. I will say that this preamp is of quality construction.

Quality product.

My vintage amp has a phono input, but my vintage turntable has to be a distance away, so I had to use a long phono cable, which was picking up hum / buzz. This phono preamp has solved my issue, It is very well made, and a quality product. It sits beneath the T/Table, with a half metre phono cable, so the long cable is no longer a problem.

Time to get those vinal records out!
28 April 2020

Upgrading my amplifier recently I realized that most modern ones don't have any phono imputs or Earth / Ground. I obtained a Behringer phono pre-amplifier for less than $50. which easily bridged my Stanton record player to the Fenton 500 amplifier I recently bought via a stereo RCA cable. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

good value for small money....

Ok, this is the cheapest phono preamp available. To criticize it for lack of sophistication or for low quality components is just unfair. But, it is the most minimal phono preamp ever created. It This minimalist preamp has one teeny-tiny op amp on the circuit board, a few tiny( TINY) Electrolytic capacitors, a few tiny resistors...in a nice steel box. I cannot believe this thing has any sort of channel separation .....nor power filtering. ( Wal wart) There is just no physical way. However it works. For a teenagers first stereo, their first introduction to vinyl, this phono preamp costs less than a replacement stylus for their dads old turntable. I would say..entry level, period. When ya save up and then get a NAD, Cambridge, even ART phono preamp...then you will be able to hear the improvement. Meanwhile, spend 2x the price, skip the learning curve, get the ART for like 49 bucks. Anything above that becomes really abstract. In the meantime, upgrade the entire turntable and especially the cartridge. This is a multi-variable equation of value for money. For the money, this thing just works. Period.
