I got this little mixer, for the purpose of taking with me when I travel and work weekends, to plug into my laptop, in order to at least record vocal tracks with my MASCHINE Micro. This way I can save my ideas & work on it more when I get back to my home studio, to really give the full effect, so to speak.2nd reason was to have a small little mixer when I DJ, perform, or do live sound for other bands/groups, because this thing will give me that extra 1 or 2 channels I need to hook up a mic or guitar, for a bigger member band/group.Anyway, I tested this little mixer yesterday, & I was pretty impressed with it! That was pretty much it.The only things to remember before buying this mixer are:1) You do not have built-in effects, nor...2) a mid-range EQ on the the mic & line channels (the low & high EQs do work fairly well). You just have a low & high EQ, but that is fine, because this is one of those mixers not really meant for "big time" recording. Its kinda like a backup battery for a cell phone. It is there when you need it in a pinch, because it is very portable & compact to take with you.Overall, this is great for the beginner, who wants to start dabbling with recording, & understanding the concepts of it really. And if you travel and carry a laptop with instrument software, it is great for someone who records a lot, & needs to get it recorded into their recording software of their PC/Laptop, so they don't lose their idea of their next hit.

Good overall for the price but..

It is noticeable if your input is of low level and/or you have it's volume down. Also it is very noticeable when you are listening to material loudly and then it stops (e.g at the muted pause between tracks). Especially true on sensitive equipment.- Balance is offset to the right channel. When the left and right inputs are playing the same material at exactly the same volume, the right channel on the mixer shows a higher level. This is proven by the indicator lights on the unit itself, the metering lights on my powered speakers, and by current testing. The sound is not entirely noticeable if you aren't a critical listener.. but a more perceptive listener can tell that the right side is louder. This is unacceptable for critical listeners.- Poor circuit design causes the unit to send a huge (loud) overdriven signal through the output when disconnected. And combined with the fact that is has no OFF switch, this means you must turn off the amplifier(s) to prevent possible amp/speaker failure (especially true in high power equipment that lacks ample protection circuitry) BEFORE you disconnect the little mixer. Although this is always the recommended procedure, not all mixers/preamps pass this much dirty signal through at shutdown.-For clarity I'll list it as a separate point: No On/Off switch.-2-Track has no individual attenuation/gain. It is straight through and only controlled by the "main mix" knob.-Would be nice to not have to choose between Line and USB. USB and Line should be separate.. but then again this is a small amp.Other than the above the little mixer does its job at mixing. Good value for what you get. But if you need clearer/cleaner mixing, perfect balancing, and more features.. just get a bigger, better mixer!

Great little mixer.
5 March 2024

It does exactly what it was designed to do, and exactly as advertised. I only use MIC and sound from the laptop, so this mixer was ideal. I would have preferred the rotary controls to be a little stiffer, so they don't get knocked/nudged, but that's a minor criticism, and just my preference. I can easily solve this with some felt or even O-rings under.

There is nothing wrong with the unit or it’s claimed functionality however I bought this in haste and lack of knowledge. Although it has a line in socket there is only one and I need at least two. I wrongly assumed that the RCA inputs would suffice for inputs from my Yamaha MODX synth and that similarly the RCA outputs would go to my Presonis monitors. They could but I experienced Hmm and lack of fidelity. This unit is more suited to the podcaster

This mixer is terrible!
4 November 2017

This mixer is not as easy to hook up as it sounds. This mixer belongs in a dumpster. Its a waste of wire and plastic. Its usb interface does not work well with recording, lots of feedback and static is all I hear, this mixer is absolute junk. Upon hooking it up it did not respond the way it should. It says tested by Berhinger on the box? What kind of test? It sure wasn't a test to be sure it will hook up properly because it doesn't. I will be getting a refund on mine. Out of box and won't even work right, what a waste of time and when your in the record it and get it done industry, you don't have time for garbage like this. Stop making and stop selling these mixers they are an absolute waste of production time and punishment on any studio.

Tiny little thing

I was so tired of hauling around a small mixer made of thick metal, weighing more than the synth I needed it for, and would need a separate table to support it. Then the power supply was as big as the mixer. This guy can run off of a 5volt usb connector. How do they do that especially with the phantom power always on? Nice having 3.5mm jacks in and out. That is very handy for phones, laptops, hand held recorders, etc. XLR combo jack with a extremely hot preamp. Just got to remember to not use a ribbon mic. I know its not very expensive, but I would have loved a reverb, aux send, balanced outputs. Im not complaining though. For the price, I got a handy mixer I can put into my pocket. Maybe soon they will make a mixer that can accept a USB microphone. I am one of the die hard fans of the Rockband games, I like sitting around and having a beer sometimes with friends, while playing rockband, I think the dinky usb mic that came with the game is kind of cheesy, it might be okay but between the lack of adjustments and only a mic volume adjustment on the game sucked I wanted something better to work on my vocals. I have a keyboard and a real guitar but this is a nice way to incorporate music involvement and appreciation in a different setting. I first just tried a different mic a samson q2u I think, cause it have usb and xlr and headphones out, but still didn't give me the adjustments I needed for sound monitoring with the ps3. I first just tried a different mic a samson q2u I think, cause it have usb and xlr and headphones out, but still didn't give me the adjustments I needed for sound monitoring with the ps3. Not the mics fault is the ps3 and the games fault. So I got this unit and the options are great, and yes will connect straight to the ps3 and will read it as an audio input device and you can just plug a mic into this mixer, the mic will actually do both the usb and xlr at the same time but the setup I like the best is that I have separates meaning I have an older marantz preamp I just got and a technical pro 4100 watt rackmountable amp for my main setup I just got too, and the ps3 goes to the preamp and then I have 2 "Y" cables that come out of there one goes to this mixer and the other to the amp. I use the xlr connector from the mic to this mixer and use line in from the ps3 sound and channel it just to the headphones instead of main out only the mic goes to main usb out, but this way I can mix them together to give me the optimal headphone out from the mic and the sound from the ps3 rockband game with the adjustments I was looking for. when I dont do this and watch regular tv I reconnect and come from the preamp to the mixer to use the gain and eq help then go to the amp, I am trying to run a custom setting with all this stuff that suits my purpose for the speakers I built too, and this little thing seems to help really good for now, I may get an extra 31 band eq later down the road but for what I am trying to do now this think is pretty versatile, I only wished it had more selection options so I didn't have to rewire it each time like having the mic go to usb out and the other channel so I could continue to use the channel input gain settings to the amp, but most people probably wont use a setup like this I am using a pro audio amp with a home av-preamp and I think the signals are setup differently cause I dont think I get enough signal output out of the preamp that I would like, but the sound quality is so much better than the old sony reciever I had, but for this setup really helps and proabably the best model because of the rca jacks and 3.5mm headphone connectors, off switch would be nice have to unplug usb cable every night to turn off is all.

Would be great except for very noisy monitoring section

This is a very affordable way to get nice-sounding recordings into a machine with an available USB port. These mixers/audio interfaces under $100 generally suffer in their monitoring section - often needing supplemental amplification for most recording musicians to monitor themselves while recording. However, this unit has enough volume and does not suffer from that. The problem with this unit is that there is constant hiss (sounds like tape hiss from the old days if the Dolby was turned off) present in the monitoring circuit. It is only audible in the monitoring circuit and doesn't actually record the hiss. The recordings sound very good and this is a great option if monitoring isn't needed. Rather than return it, I moved it to my office and use it as an interface for a microphone only for teleconferencing (Zoom Meets etc). It serves that function well. The problems I have with these affordable interfaces can range from inadequate monitoring volume (not a problem with this unit), noisy monitoring circuit (big problem for this unit), and inflexible buss options (not relevant now this unit is for speech only). As an audio interface for speech only, it's awesome.
