Belkin 8 Way Surge Protection

I learned the hard way why you need to have a surge protector. We had a nasty storm and electricity fried my computer. Now, I make sure all electronics are plugged into this surge protector. It works great. Because the plugs are grouped the way they are, it can be tight trying to fit multiple large plugs, but it still works great.

This product gives me rock solid protection with a high Joule rating. I like the dual light feature. It shows it is grounded and protected. I purchased this particular unit to protect a new dehumidifier which I purchased. The low cost of the surge protector was a minimal cost when compared to the total amount I would lose if the new dehumidifier became a total loss from a voltage surge. I have purchased other Belkin MasterCube Surge Protectors to replace previous protectors which I have reviewed and found to have minimal Joule ratings which are a hazard from being cheap and below grade. Upgraded protection has now been established for my electric typewriter and my desktop scanners. Poor quality

Bought two of these. One arrived well packaged but didn't work at all. The casing on it doesn't feel particularly good quality and feels cheap. Also feels poorly assembled even when compared to cheaper products. I don't feel confident in the build quality at all. Quite light and poorly put together. Surprised that this is even a branded product. Wouldn't buy again.

Good Points: Good overall construction, my last Belkin one lasted a good ten years. You can turn off all the related computer plugs in one go. Phone charger USB points accessible and fast. 2 metre lead is just right for my needs.Improvement Points: Big plugs like laptop chargers block the opposite plug holes and there are no longer a couple of sockets which pivot, unlike the previous design, so I bought an 8 gang instead of a 6 gang to allow for that. Expensive, even allowing for the quality.

Good Points: Solid plug board with a mega sized on/off switch which is a good point. Can't say how well the surge protection works but I imagine it's fineImprovement Points: The one thing that I realised could be improved was this:Face at least one of the sockets in the opposite direction so that power supplies can be used without losing a socket space on this board. Maybe not an easy thing but as it is I have had to plug another socket extension into this board in order to accommodate a psu. Just a thought
