Bell Super DH MIPS MTB Helmet Providing brilliant protection for the most extreme course, Bell’s Super DH MIPS Helmet is both very safe and supremely comfortable. The welcome inclusion of MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) Spherical means that the head and brain are better protected from shearing forces in the event of an oblique blow as it allows the helmet to move around the head without applying any force. Bell’s Float Fit DH with Fidlock Buckle fastening system secures the helmet and uses an easy to adjust dial for the perfect fit. From a comfort point of view, there are nineteen helmet vents, two brow ports and four chin bar vents to ensure a cooling flow of air through the helmet at all times, and the X-Static padded interior will keep nasty smells at bay. The chin bar can be removed for extra ventilation when grinding uphill for the next run down and the GoggleGuide adjustable visor gives somewhere to stash eyewear when not needed. An integrated camera mount keeps things neat and tidy and features a breakaway function so that it doesn’t catch on anything in a crash.

I cracked my half shell in a crash, and knocked out tooth. Decided I'd buy a convertible helmet to replace the half shell and have a full face for gnarly trail.I ended up returning the helmet since it felt like the Bell Super DH was trying to two things at one time, and not doing a great job at either. Compared to a dedicated full-face, this felt bulky with the chinbar installed. I never rode with it, since I returned it, but I imagine it would have been pretty warm.My least favorite part of the helmet was how it fit as a half-shell. I didn't like the way it felt or looked. Better than the switchblade in that the ears aren't covered, but still lots of bulk. Not to mention I really didn't like the way it looked.Three stars because I'm sure it's safe (as long as ... I exchanged this for a full face (on sale) AND new half shell. I ended up spending less than I did on the Super DH.

Hubby had a crash so needed a replacement full face. I've bought him this helmet for Christmas. He's already tried it on and loves it. Fit is great and the removable chin bar is a bonus and really easy to take off and put back on. He's looking forward to wearing it when we next go to Bike Park Wales.Delivery was really quick and well packaged.Cannot fault the service or the product

I have Troy Lee half, Fox full and now this Bell transition helmet. During the muddier sloppier PNW rides ive had a few spills but never wanted to schlepp a full face with me. This is the best of both. I only have about 9hrs in this helmet so far, but have been really pleased so far. I swapped out the cheek pads for the smaller pads and I am less schmoosh faced! I have a size small and wasnt thrilled with the first ride with the thicker pads, waaaaay better with the smaller pads. The helmet breaths well, but honestly it has been cold and wet on each ride I have done, so can not say how hot it will be in summer. I am not good putting the chin bar back on yet, so annoyingly I need to remove the helmet to put the bar on. It is a cinch to take off. But with cold fingers ... But this helmet is great for adding a bit of protection, especially on the days I ride alone. The cost does seem spendy but the helmet is really comfortable, feels sturdy and the features are great. Plus it is likes 2 helmets in one.**image is with the larger pads.

It is very important to make sure you are safe while enjoying the thrill of shredding those trails. It took me time and a lot on consideration on which helmet to purchase since this is my first time and I don't have any experiences yet with full face helmet. But, I have one thing in my mind, peace of mind that I will be protected in case something unwanted happens. This helmet ticks my no. 1 list, MIPS technology.I have heard things from my friends who have full face helmets that it is very hot inside and they sweat a lot.Another thing in this helmet is the design of all the vents embedded on it, I don't feel very hot or flushed when I am wearing this, you can feel the air swooshing in when going downhill. After the rush of going downhill, of course you need to ... Sometimes I don't feel like wearing one actually. The helmet is very light. It is a plus that this is a convertible helmet, so if I am just going for stroll around the river trail and don't need chin guard, I can use this as well.Though price is above my budget, but I don't take my safety very lightly.Overall experience is great!
Okay look, I’ve had this helmet for over two years now, and I’ve had several major crashes, yes I’ve broken some parts but only in the past month or two, the visor bolt came off (due to over tightening) the yellow band has come out of place, and the forehead pad kept falling down (I superglued it up) this is why I took 1 star off, because it’s a minor thing, the helmet still works perfectly on and off. If I’m being honest, I’d want to know if the helmet was good, to that I’d say, yes it is good, yes I do switch between the full and half face, but if you think you’re never going to ride flat or uphill, I’d go with a dedicated full face. If you’re riding enduro or anything else, three years later, I would still recommend this helmet to anyone. I’m buying my second ... I’m buying my second full face now, instead I’m going to go for a dedicated full face because I already have a completely working half/full. Good luck!
I've had this helmet for several years now and since I've fortunately not fallen on my head as of yet, this is strictly a comfort/fit/convenience review. I've got a 57cm melon with a narrow face and the medium is a perfect fit. The helmet is super comfortable in both functions. Once you change out the jaw bone a few times it becomes very easy to do without removing the helmet. I usually clip the chin protection to a strap on my pack if I'm going uphill, or if it's a longer easy section. I'm in San Diego and it gets hot on the trails in the summer, but the helmet is very breathable for having it's level of protection. Highly recommend if you're looking for one helmet to do it all.
This helmet ticks all the boxes for me! It looks great, it’s super comfortable, has awesome airflow and is super light. Interior is washable and comes with spare cheek pads. The chin bar is removable but it’s such a sturdy flowing design, you can barely tell. I did remove it once to see how easy it was to remove, and all I needed to do was unclip 3 fasteners, no tools needed. It was easy. The mips system is a double shell design. Not a mips expert but that design is rated well online. If I had to buy another helmet, I would buy one of these again for sure! These helmets are nothing like the Bell super 2 helmets! Not even close!
The Super DH is the third generation of Bell's convertible mountain bike helmets and the first to meet the ASTM 1952 DH safety standard, the same standard met by Bell's premier full-face helmet, the Full 9. The inner layer that wraps around the rider's head is constructed from low density EPP foam. This EPP foam sphere is covered by a thin polycarbonate shell. This inner helmet rests against polycarbonate-covered EPS foam that forms the exterior of the helmet. Along with this new version of MIPS, the Super DH uses a refined headform and the new Float Fit DH retention system, both of which are said to improve comfort. While the safety and fit systems might be new, the Super DH still relies on a trio of latches to connect the chinbar to the rest of the helmet. The ... While the safety and fit systems might be new, the Super DH still relies on a trio of latches to connect the chinbar to the rest of the helmet. The company worked to make the rear latch easier to engage and disengage without removing the helmet. The proving ground for this new convertible helmet included Whistler's legendary Top of the World trail along with other tracks that formed the course for the seventh stop on this year's Enduro World Series. Like the Super 3R, the Super DH provides a great field of view. It also has good auditory feedback. Read the full review at bikeradar.com.
With DH in the name, you better believe the new Super DH passes the ASTM 1952 DH certification test. The original Super helmet did not pass because it was always intended to be a trail helmet first. If you have a full face helmet at home, you might have noticed it doesn't have many vents. Part of the downhill certification process requires a helmet be dropped on a pointed anvil (called a curbstone), which replicates lawn darting into rocks. While Bell claims the Super 2R chinbar was strong enough to pass the DH test, the venting structure made it difficult to pass that curbstone test. Our favorite feature of the new Super DH isn't the ability to pass a test, it's the new safety tech. For years, Bell has been a big advocate of MIPS, the low friction layer positioned ... For years, Bell has been a big advocate of MIPS, the low friction layer positioned between the head and helmet. In a crash, it's supposed to help reduce the transfer of rotational forces to the brain. Developed entirely in house with the blessing of MIPS, Bell's new Spherical MIPS concept utilizes two different layers of foam. The outer shell is your standard high density EPS foam that works best at mitigating high speed impacts. The second layer is a lower density EPP, which sits next to your head. This softer material works better for your more common low- to mid-speed impacts. The helmet also has a new fit system, which is integrated into the MIPS layer and wraps around the entire head. Bell revised the padding so it absorbs sweat and redirects moisture to the outside edge, letting it drip away from your field of vision. While we didn't get much pedaling in without the chinbar, the new helmet is far better ventilated than its traditional DH counterparts. With the chinbar removed, the helmet felt similar to the regular Super. We were concerned that the Spherical MIPS might be noticeable on jarring descents, but that proved to be a non-issue. The entire package felt solid. If you can hold off on your next helmet purchase until Christmas, the new Super DH might just be the best convertible helmet on the market. With the chinbar removed, it looks and performs on par with many of the best deep coverage enduro helmets on the market. And while the chinbar is a bit bulky to carry, when clipped in, this new helmet delivers DH-level protection. Read the full review at MTBR.com.
I bought this Bell DH helmet at a Portland store.Just the right color to go with my Nomad SC bike.I like that it has a lot of vent holes to keep my head kool in the summertime. Also the latest tech in safety, MIPS. When it gets really hot, I take the chin bar off.You should not complain about a full helmet being too hot. All full helmets will get hot in JULY & August. Fit is very comfy and a great buy.
