BenQ TK800M 4K UHD Home Entertainment DLP Projector

Bang for buck this is easily the brightest, sharpest and easy to use projector anywhere near this price range. It is especially good at performing in a bright environment but calibrates extremely well in a darkened cinema environment. HDR is surprisingly effective considering the low cost and though missing features such as lens shift and any "smart tv" integration, those savings are spent on the image quality. Sound is weak but functional if used for business purposes. Anyone else would/should attach this to a dedicated AV system and for gaming it's surprisingly responsive with fluid 60fps motion.

I waited a few months to write a review to give me time to run this projector through its paces. I am not disappointed in the slightest with my purchase. The picture quality and brightness on this projector are simply put, awesome. Even with ambient light the picture comes through nice and clear.It gives a nice crisp 4k picture. For all you tech heads out there, yes this projector uses pixel shifting technology, and no it doesn't make a bit of difference on the incredible picture quality. You'd have to be extremely picky to complain about one of the sharpest budget 4k projectors out there. It's also great for gaming as well. To give context to for this review, I upgraded to this 3000 lumen 4K UHD projector from a Panasonic PT-AX200E 2000 lumen 1080P HD projector. (The price point being roughly the same - approx. 15 years between purchase). The reason for upgrading was due to increased ambient lighting conditions and longer throw distance.Pros:1. Easy to use - plug n play, including auto keystone and setup grid.2. 3000 lumens works well in a room with moderate ambient light, but obviously darker scenes will still suffer due to the amount of ambient light present.3. Watching sport (AFL) appears to have no lag.5. Playing games (PS3/Nintendo Switch) also appears to have no noticeable lag.Cons:1. Slow to start up - because of this you wonder whether or not you've actually turned it on, especially when starting it up in very bright ambient light conditions.2. Slow to find source input - combined with slow start up, you do wonder if you've actually turned it on.3. Noisy fan compared to the projector that I replaced - at least you know the unit is on I suppose.4. No sleep function - it has an auto shut off when it detects no source input, but no dedicated sleep function. Not so good for those of you who might fall asleep while watching a Netflix series or anything that autoplays. A loss of functionality compared to previous.5. No zoom function - compared to my previous projector, this loss of functionality was noticeable, meaning I need to physically move the projector should I wish to change the projected image size.6. No vertical/horizontal lens shift - this was a deal breaker for me as my previous projector had this as standard. The default image is set to project horizontally and upward. So when I had the unit sitting horizontally on a shelf, to avoid people from walking in front of the projector, half the projected image appeared on my ceiling. In the end, I Macgyvered a securely fastened work-around, but it does mean that my projector sits tilted forward. If I hadn't been able to find a workaround, then I would have returned the projector and replaced it with one that had this feature.Overall, my reasons for upgrading were specific whereas for most people placing the projector on a coffee table or similar, in front of a screen, will likely suffice. However note that the inability to zoom in or out means that you will have to physically move the position of the projector forward/backward in order to fit the image to a particular screen size.Nevertheless, despite the lack of some useful features, I would recommend this product to others at this price point.
