Big one got away? Make it Vanish!

I use vanish for leader between #1 dipsey diver and spoon or harness. Vanish is tough and the 8 foot length is the shock absorber as i use 80 pound synthetic to trip and not lose expensive tackle. The 20 pound Vanish may seem like over kill until you hook up a Fish Ohio walleye . Just remember. Lucky fishermen check and change their leaders often. Try it. It works. Title: Big one got away? Coils and twists badly

I can't remember the last time I used a line that retained twist and coil so badly. I use spinning gear and I expect to have some problems from time to time but this stuff was terrible. In 3 weeks of using it I had to cut out tangled section twice and I had many extra loops that coiled badly on the spool. The final straw was when it coiled badly and worked it's way under the spool. I had to pull apart the reel and cut out the mess that had spun around the shaft. I've now stripped off all of the line from the reel and tossed in the trash along with the remaining unused line.

To cut to the chase, I hooked and landed a 40-45 lb (easy) Striper after a battle that went on for maybe 12 - 15 minutes. This fish made some incredibly long and fast runs, as will as being wrapped in the line for a while. After boating, taking pics, reviving and releasing the fish, I inspected the leader. Great Line
8 October 2015

This line is the second brand of flourocarbon I tried, and this is pretty awesome. I spooled up my Lew's Carbon Fire Spinning Reel with 8lb line and it took almost the entire thing perfectly. I only have 20-30 yrds of line unused. This line does everything it's supposed to. It disappears under water completely, and is very strong. I retie my knots every 5 or 6 fish though just to be safe. Make sure to do this, because one time I left my knot for about 15 fish, and when I set the hook on the next one the knot became unraveled, which is my fault, and not the line's. Also make sure to heavily moisten the line before pulling knots tight. The line is a bit thin for its pound test. It's probably got the full strength of line that's a bit thicker, but I like to play it ... MoreThis line is the second brand of flourocarbon I tried, and this is pretty awesome. It's probably got the full strength of line that's a bit thicker, but I like to play it safe so I keep the drag just a hair looser. The line also casts very smoothly. With a quarter ounce weight and 6 ft rod I easily cast close to 45ft with just a flick of the wrist.

Horrible

Moves over to the vanish this year, bought 8kb and 6lb for my and my wifes, tried it today as tmrw is opening day of trout and it is HORRID. You can NOT cast over 10' with a #4 hook with worm and medium split shot. It kinks on the real even after running the line out 8 times it still kinks up. But the cast is absolutely horrid. Just replaced it last night just came in and cutting off my reals today. Waste of 20$. Do NOT waste your time or money. We are not weekenders, we fish daily. Never again. I've called Walmart (as that is the only place to buy line within and hours drive from us) nothing they can do, nor do I want more from Berkeley, please don't waste your time, Italy not worth the heartache. It also left what looked like fuzz on my real and hers but it was ... MoreMoves over to the vanish this year, bought 8kb and 6lb for my and my wifes, tried it today as tmrw is opening day of trout and it is HORRID. It broke way too much
13 March 2021

New to Fluor but started to give it a go, and bought this line cause it was a little cheaper. But, every time I turn around it breaks, worm hook set, casting, etc. Lost enough baits to have paid for a higher quality line. Now I’m just plan scared to even try it again, been catching some nice bass and would hate to finally have my PB break off when I could have used another line. Not sure if I had a bad batch, old batch or what, and at the price of line now, it hurts to have to remove basically new line and refill. Sure did not help my confidence in using Fluor in the future, that’s for sure. Trying strike king tour now and it’s sure not cheap, but still not sure if this line is going on many of my reels, just like braid too much, and can use a good mono for leader.

Weak knot strength
31 March 2020

This line cannot take a knot cinched down, no matter how much you wet it. It's knot strength is one of the worst I've ever encountered. I have tried and tried every knot in my arsenal and all the knots I know weakens the line so much, it always breaks! I made countless practice knots being extra careful in each step and it just won't stay strong. I even tried a simple overhand knot and it still can't hold. It's useless really. I use it as sewing thread only, it's very strong for such purposes as mending holes in socks... lol.

Worst line I have ever purchased!
29 March 2020

I have been fishing for over 50 years. I purchased this line after my great experience through the years with Trilene. That being said, I spooled some 17 lb. Vanish on 2 of my baitcasters. What a terrible mistake! I went to the lake 2 days afterwards. 1st cast, backlash. lost about 1/3 of the line. Cranked down on the brake, OK for now. Pulled in what I had cut off and it was coiled like a snake. Remember, this was on the reel 2 DAYS! It was correctly spooled as I have learned something in my 50+ years of fishing. I never had any problems with any Trilene in any LB. test I ever purchased. The line was not marked as "Leader" as some spools were. The other reel, got a couple of casts before the inevitable happened. It was a shame that I didn't lose more line, meaning ... MoreI have been fishing for over 50 years. It was a shame that I didn't lose more line, meaning I would have had less to pull off the reel for the trash can. I would have posted pictures, but I'm sure everyone knows what a trashcan looks like and all experienced anglers know what to put in it. Vanish is absolutely the worst "fishing line" I have ever used. Want to guess what line is on my reels now? Trilene! Please take this garbage product off the market Berkely. Fishermen everywhere will thank you!

Worst memory I've ever seen in a fishing line!
14 May 2019

Bought this line today to replace the junk line that came on my 3 year olds new fishing pole. The price point was nicer than the spider wire that I normally use on my poles! No sooner than I take the sticker off the spool the line twists were something like I've never seen before. Ok so fast forward... After fighting the seemingly endless battle of lining a reel we set out to catch some fish, thinking that all the battle was fought! Wow was I wrong, first cast out I spun one of the biggest birds nests I've seen in my life. In closing I guess buying the budget line might not always be the best especially if you have to reline your reel every third cast. I've gotta say I'm pretty disappointed with berkley on this one, it was a brand of line I grew up with, but it's ... MoreBought this line today to replace the junk line that came on my 3 year olds new fishing pole. Wrong line on spool
31 July 2021

I bought a packet of Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon 12LB line from a local dealer in South Africa a while ago.It is currently winter here and was respooling my reels when I started using the spool of line that I've placed in my fisking tackle line box. I noticed something was off but wrote it off to the Double-X Hi-Abrasion 14LB line I was taking off my reel. But when I spooled my reel, it didn't even fill half of it(Shimano Slade 4000FB). Now I knew something was seriously wrong. The line measure about 0.008" instead of 0.012"Now I don't just want to diss the product as I have moved over completely from Double-X and have had only good experiences up till now.Have you maybe had any other reports of the same happening to other people?
