Expected nothing less. Old model but way ahead of its time. Sound quality is phenomenal, a true workhorse. Check reviews on Headfi.org for a better idea of it's quirks.

Full range closed headphones, decent isolation. Sounding good coming out of the box, even better after 1-2 weeks of breaking in. Heaven't heard the 250 ohm version, but I read the 80 ohm is a bit more "warmer".The coiled cable that comes as standard it's ok but a bit too heavy. Ask about a compatible straight cable (K100.07-3,0m seems like it would fit, haven't tried though). I have seen the 6 pin connector sold separatly if you're into DIY ing your own cable. Also couldn't fit the tiny cable screw, seems to work without it.Overall a good buy, would buy again.

Beyer DT 250's are a great tracking headphone, that I use for recording. It is also great for listening to music per se, It has a little more/better low end than the classic Dt100 and I think is more attractive and comfortable with over ear velour pads. This headphone along with others in the DT range is completely modular with any and all parts repairable/replaceable. They will last and when a part wears out i.e ear pads, headband etc. you can order them and refit. I have an old pair that must be over 12 years old, I have replaced the cable, the ear pads and headband pad and they are still going strong, as new. So environmentally great. Excellent investment for studio workhorse quality headphones. They are not Stax or Grado and if you want a really HI Fi headphone ... But for quality and budget, durability and sound the DT 250's are hard to beat.

I formerly ran a music studio and needed some quality cans that a whole band could monitor with during live takes. For the money I was really happy with the Audio Technica ATH-M40fs. We bought half a dozen studio cans for under $300 and they sounded great. Well 10 years and a film degree later I was still wearing them for field recordings, ADR sessions and close Post Production reference. In fact I preferred them to Sony cans for twice the price because they didn't fatigue my hearing. I knew there were better sets out there, but those were just my thing. I know them. On a Location Mixer job for an indie film a few months ago my last and favorite pair got soaked when a sweaty AD wanted to hear my mix. Disgusting. On a Location Mixer job for an indie film a few months ago my last and favorite pair got soaked when a sweaty AD wanted to hear my mix. Disgusting. Long story short, I decided to go on some market research and ended up buying a pair of Beyerdynamic DT-250s (80ohms). I couldn't be happier. Nothing has sounded the same since. I can hear detail so vividly that my studio reference monitors don't compare. I literally have the experience listening to music; "There's a mandolin there?" (Then I listen to the reference monitors and realize there is a hidden mandolin there). The DT 250's cover my whole ears without any squishing around the edges. They are compact and lightweight for cans of their type. The cable detaches at both the mixer and at the left earpiece, which is very handy for safety and longevity. As for ear fatigue, I've been on 12-hour shoots and I've yet to experience it. For a workingman's aural environment, these are heaven.
Second set of beyer headphones i have owned, i have tried the DT100 versions and not been impressed by the sound quality. On reading various reviews on the DT250 set i was keen to buy some. I had wanted the 250 ohm model, however i was sold the 80 ohm set. I would not call them loud headphones, i have a set of shure srh 440 which are a lot louder. I had bought them for monitoring vocals, they are deficient in the upper mid frequencys an important area for voice work. This did show up in a plot of their frequency response, the shure's are not as open as these and lack the fine detail. For listening to big bands and orchestras they let you hear a lot, problem is they make vocals sound thin and gutless. From this review it sounds like i hate them but i dont, they are ... For listening to big bands and orchestras they let you hear a lot, problem is they make vocals sound thin and gutless. From this review it sounds like i hate them but i dont, they are good headphones and very comfortable to wear for extended periods. In that respect they are way ahead of the shure's, which dont fit small heads well and slide all over the place. For listening to general music i would use the beyer's, but for monitoring vocals i will stick with the shure's.
Honest headphones, well suited to tracking and mixing. Perhaps too cool and detached for listening to music, but they are 100% objective and comfortable to wear for long-ish periods.i marked these down slightly for durability only because the legendary "mate of mine" had 2 pairs of Beyerdynamic headphones (DT660s) where the headband broke, and the replacement part was always unavailable. But, please, these are a very decent pair of headphones; very honest, extremely revealing, but not tiring to listen to at all.
Soft velour earpads make them a joy to wear for long periods. Made in Germany durable, user serviceable construction means they'll last a lifetime.
Very please with the audio quality - the bass is well defined and rounded the mids are very impressive and the high too are clear and crisp - not colourful not for bass angry hip hoppers perhaps just critical headphones at their very best. They offer decent isolation too, and very comfortable and light - the cable is a bit heavy tough...but of good quality. ...now that 70's look might put off some - but these are object of substance. Totally satisfied.
A lot is comprehended. Among the headphones of their price category, the DT250 / 250 stands out for its verified frequency balance and High authenticity of timbres. This is primarily true headphones that can serve as a reference. They do not color the sound, so they can be a necessary tool for working with sound. Very good model for lovers of honest sound!
