These shoes were great for my sons AFOs. The short wrap works better than the regular zipper position for AFOs. The AFOs put a lot of stress on the zipper when it is lower on the shoe.I was really happy with these until they started to develop holes on the bottom after only two months. Usually we get wear and tear on the top from foot dragging but these holes are on the bottom. I imagine these holes are from some sort of dragging, but I’ve never had a shoe wear out so fast. I would hope to get at least six montages or more out of a shoe that cost $50.

My son had a really hard time putting his AFO brace into the shoe. He had the right size. I didn’t want to size up because it might make it too awkwardly big. He said the zipper is better if it’s at the end by the toe. Easier to slip his afo in.

We are trying this style with the zipper higher for my son who wears an AFO. These shoes are so nice to get in and out of his foot with the AFO. It also helps to make him more independent since he has weakness in his left hand.

Billy shoes have been our go to for our son for years now. Due to a genetic condition, his feet are very wide and different sizes. The extra wide widths in the D|R collection fit him perfectly. After wearing out the zipper at the toe of Classic high tops we were excited to try the Short Wrap zipper. The Short Wraps were working great!! The zipper has stayed intact, he can get them on and off himself and they are very cool looking. Luckily we have a pair of the classic zip that we were saving as his "dress shoes", hopefully they will get him through the rest of the winter and spring. As always I love the option of buying mix-matched sizes and their customer services is always super helpful.
My son loves his new shoes. He usually gets the red high tops, but this this time picked 2 pairs that are different colors. He needs to have a lift put on this left shoe., so he hasn't wore them yet. Waiting to get the left shoe back. Woulsn't buy anything but Billy's.
Decent shoe, got it seeing all the AFO pictures and it was advertised as being similar to the other style I bought my child. But it seems it is too narrow at the top vs the other and I know its a small team (thank you) but he really wanted to wear them so we did try them for a day THEN I got a response (But it was a sale item so I don't think I could even if unworn)So it is what it is. Make sure the top of the shoe fits your child wearing AFOs if they are.
Not wide enough, the high tops didn’t fit the AFOs right, and one shoe came defective. I measured my sons foot like the instructions said, with the afo on. With those measurements it said he didn’t need a wide, I decided to get a wide anyways. But even the wide wasn’t wide enough. So I’m returning these ones and trying a Xtra wide in a low top 🤞🏻
Finally found a shoe wide enough to fit my grandson’s “Fred Flintstone” feet. We have tried so many shoes including extra wide sizing and could not get them on. These go on with ease and are super cute!

Our boys tend to wear them out fairly quickly, whether its a toe drag that tears the canvas upper, or a shuffle that destroys the sole, I'm patching holes with Shoe Goo within a week or 2. I've come to accept that we get a few months less out of their shoes because of how we wear them, as it's just one of the costs of having kiddos with special needs. The frustration with this review is the struggle we've had actually getting this pair. We ordered these on 4/6 because we were all holes on all of the shoes we have (we currently have 5 pairs of these that are in various stages of disrepair) and I am expecting to receive them on ... MoreThis is a tough one for us. I've had to email twice to check on the status and fully believe the 5/2 ship date is only because of my repeated request for action. You have to be better. The design is fantastic and while I wish the construction was sturdier, we've come to accept what we get. 4 weeks to ship a pair of shoes can't be an acceptable standard. Just as an aside, I worked in sales through the pandemic for a company that manufactured products for retail. "Supply chain" and "staffing" was an issue, but it can't be an excuse anymore. These terms are code for "broken systems and processes". We've been Billy customers for years, have dozens of pairs of shoes and will continue to be Billy customers for years to come because the products work are are mostly good quality, but you need to be better.
Short wrap are best! Our PT recommended these shoes for our son who has autism, primarily for his low tone and his sensory seeking tendencies to roll on his ankles. They are all we wear. We love them and hope Billy will continue to make the short wraps because the zippers on the original design rip long before the shoe has worn out. Please keep making short wraps, Billy!
