BioLite Headlamp 800

$129.00

(96 reviews)

Pro-level features for pro-level activities, all in an ultra-compact design. Experience complete control over lighting thanks to Constant Mode, Pass Thru + Charge and 8 different lighting modes, allowing you to see and be seen on your next adventure. BioLite's 3D SlimFit construction integrates electronics directly into the headband, creating a flush, low-profile front that won't wobble. The rear mesh panel distributes weight and keeps pressure off your forehead, while the moisture-wicking band keeps you cool and dry. The pro feature: constant mode. Most headlamps automatically regulate luminosity to conserve battery life, dimming over time as the eye gets used to the dark. This works well in many cases, but should not be the only mode available for technical terrain or complete darkness. Constant mode gives full control over the lumens and allows you to set a constant brightness level that will not dim - unless commanded to do so with the push of a button. Pro feature: Run forever. As a rechargeable headlamp, the Headlamp 800's operating time can be extended indefinitely thanks to Pass Thru+ charging. This means that the headlamp can be used while charging at the same time.

Biolite 800 - bright & no bounce headlamp

Perfect head lamp for trail running (5-100 miler) or long multi day hike. It has no bounce and has ability to charge on the fly with a power bank. The 10 sec burst mode (full lumens) was amzing for decending technical terrain (roots/rocks). I also like the dimmable feature of both the spot/flood modes...and even the red light mode. I'm replacing my petzl NAO+ 750 which is still an amzing headlamp...but like the features and lightness of the Biolight.

Expensive light - but recommended

I just got my HeadLamp 800pro. The price is very high for a headlamp, I own some 20€-Headlamps, working well, but this one is special! I am using it on my eScooter at night. Front light is bright, spotlight brighter and the backlight cares for safety on eScooter or bike at night. The light-modes (red-light, light and spot-light) are very useful for outdoor and indoor use, inluding reading, repairing and camping. The HeadLamp and its accessories are of high quality, well manufactured. If you are in need of a reliable headlamp with several light-options, a higher requirements and comfortable fitting: recommended!

Good, not great for the price.

The pluses- it is comfortable and pretty bright. I really like that it is light in the front with the weight distributed between the front and back. The front is light enough that there is no bouncing at all. I also like the ability to power it with the external battery while using it ( forget what they call that). The negatives- first it is expensive. Second it doesn’t have a focus. It does have a “focus” beam and a wide angle beam, but the focus beam is not very focused. Third, and my biggest complaint is that the headlamp does not angle down well. You can kind of angle it down, but when you do it pulls on the power cord which means the power cord pulls back on it. It will stay angled in the first notch, just barely angled, but after the first notch the tension on the power cord pull the light back. The notches/clicks when you angle it are not strong. The other problem is when you angle it it pulls the cord at a sharp angle and I am concerned that the cord will not live up to that angle and tension long term. I have another brand of headlamp that was much cheaper and better in all respects, except the ability to power with an external battery. Unfortunately the other brand no longer seems to make that light.

Nice bright light, great options
29 November 2023

Nice and bright. Has a button to increase light temporarily. Tilt seems ok for me. Love the spotlight option. The strap is the weak point. It is difficult to keep tight AND I dropped it, breaking one of the tabs. Now it still works well, but the rear battery pack/tail light flops around. That is a major inconvenience but I love the light otherwise. If you purchase it, be gentle with it.

Not happy. Don't recommend.

I bought this a few weeks ago even though I saw a few critical reviews - well I have to say, they were right. Main issues are that this headlight is clunky and frustrating to use. It doesn't fit well and the rear pack is so heavy, it pulls the strap down off your head no matter what you do. And the front light hinge is just a terrible design. When you try to flip it down, it's attached to the power wire so you're actually pulling the wire through the headband - and the wire continually fights this and pulls the light tilt back up straight. On top of all this, I bought this to replace the Biolite 330 which broke after only a few uses.Sad to say but I'm done giving my money to Biolite.

Not worth the money, poor design
4 January 2024

I was gifted this headlamp and it seemed like a neat product. However, I am a daily headlamp user and as soon as I actually began to use it, it became quickly apparent this is an inferior product. The tilt feature doesn’t work at all. It is supposed to have 4 tilt positions, but it will only do full upright or one tilt down, anything beyond that and it snaps back up to upright position. I contacted the company and was told to try manipulating the power cord, which I had already told them I had tried, and which didn’t work. In addition to having to hike with my head bent down in order to aim the light where it needs to be since the tilt doesn’t work properly, it has this giant battery pack on the back which is heavy and uncomfortable. Other headlamp brands (which may rhyme with “pretzel”) offer headlamps with the same or better lumens and the same or better battery life, but without the unnecessarily external battery. This is because in reality, this is a 500 lumen headlamp, not 800. It can only sustain 800 lumens for 30 seconds, and so to call it the “800” is misleading. When comparing this to other brands, it pays to compare to headlamps in the 500 lumen range. Most other companies have accomplished 500 or better lumen headlamps with 2 hrs of power with just regular batteries or battery packs, not a heavy uncomfortable appendage on the back of your head. I’ve been an avid user of headlamps and in the expedition leadership world for 15 years, and I’ve seen a lot of products and fads, and this headlamp won’t be something that any serious user will enjoy. It’s not up to par for actual use.

POOR CONSTRUCTION
13 February 2024

I bought this headlamp a little over a year ago at REI for trail runs. While the light works great, the strap keepers (not sure what to call the little plastic pass through pieces that hold the straps to the battery pack) keep breaking off. The first one broke right away when i tossed the light in my pack, and the second just broke the other night when i tightened the strap on my head. So now the two top straps don't stay attached to the battery pack, and keep falling off and i have to constantly adjust on my head. These need to be more robust, and until this issue is fixed, i wouldn't waste your money on this headlamp. Terrific headlamp. Perhaps overkill for most.

I own several BioLite products and they're all exceptional products. This is no exception. This headlamp is definitely one of the brightest and longest lasting headlamps that I've owned prior to any BioLite headlamps or other products. I actually really like the red light mode. It allows me to "see" in the dark without having to blind everyone and everything that I'm looking at. The dimming function is also very nice to have and can't camp/hike without it now.It is on the more expensive headlamps on the market but you get what you pay for. Shopped around for a while to find a bright, rechargeable headlamp. I'd never heard of BioLite, but the feature set checked all the boxes - so I gave it a try. I used it three times. The power/brightness of the headlamp was perfect. Cons: 1) The light lens/bracket is a poor design. There are no set positions and the power cord from the back constantly pulls against the light so much that it's hard to keep your light beam in the desired angle. 2) On my third use, and while wearing the headlamp - one of the plastic clips on the battery pack which keeps the headband in place broke. Headlamp wouldn't stay on during my hike after that. I need a headlamp design and material that is much more durable than that - especially for that price point. Everything cell phones included is moving to USB-C hence having to worry about carrying extra cables and/or making sure that you have the right one is becoming an issue.I wish the headband did not have reflective material on it. I have taped over the reflective material.
