My son uses this Sauerkraut and recommended it to me. Still too early to tell how efficacious it is. I don''t know why, but I was expecting this to have a strong vinegary taste but it does not. It has a very mild taste, which is completely lost with some meals.I wish it had a longer shelf life after opening. The price is excellent compared with supermarkets and its delivered to the door.

I was sent a free sample of this by Ocado to review. I really liked it. Finely shredded cabbage in a light vinegar. I assume the red colour comes from the beetroot, but neither colour nor flavour is overpowering. It's a pleasant substitute for coleslaw with pizza or picnic, for people who don't like the creaminess. I like it and would recommend it. A light crunchy texture that would go with a surprising amount of meals.

This is delicious! It has a gorgeous salty, tangy flavour and a lovely crunchy texture. Even my husband who doesn't particularly enjoy salads loves this! We also love Morgiel Organic Raw Sauerkraut and Morgiel Organic Raw Sauerkraut with Carrot, which are unpasteurised, raw and fermented and so contain the probiotic health benefits lost by this one being pasteurised. Still recommend this delicious organic Sauerkraut for flavour and texture. Another winner from Biona!

I love this taste but won't buy again as pausterized ie cooked...therefore the natural benefits of raw vegetables and biotics etc have been eliminated. Have switched to another brand that does not pausterize...a real shame
This is pasteurised so during this process it kills all bacteria including the healthy gut friendly bacteria, so it has no purpose other than it's veg in a jar. Very disappointed to find this out. Unpasteurised has all the good stuff in it guys.
This is the first time I've left a review without trying the product first and I probably wouldn't do this again unless the spirit was really moved!I added this to my next 4 orders, but then thought I'd do a bit of research. This is not live, it is pasteurised. I eat fermented foods every day, sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, yogurt, miso, natto, etc but the stuff has to be unpasteurised to get the full health benefits. Pity as I liked the look of the ingredients in this! I will stick to unpasteurised brands - Vadasz, Raw, Tickles, Hurly Burly. Would love to see a proper live kraut or kimchi or pickles from Biona, sure it would be delicious!
Absolutely love the taste, I was alittle weary as I don't like pickled foods or cabbage, on its own its nice but mixed into a salad etc its lovely, hasn't got that overpowering pickled taste. I just have to remember to actually eat it lol.
Well, much as I like to eat healthily and take many opportunities to improve my gut bacteria, I didn't buy this for that reason. I bought it to go with Bratwurst and mash and to make a lovely meal. People ranting that it's unethical should know that N Europeans have been eating sauerkraut from jars and tins for ages as a convenience food for people who donthave time, energy or knowhow to make their own. In that respect, it's quite nice but it's a small jar and I struggled to serve big enough portions to my family. I prefer the 'bigger' flavours anf larger jar size of Hengstenberg.
Sadly, it has zero health benefits in terms of gut bacteria, as it is pasteurised at high heat to kill all bacteria (good and bad) to prolong its shelf life. There are many organic varieties on Ocado that are indeed raw / unpasteurised, at a slightly higher price mark. For a non-organic pasteurised traditional I would much rather go for Hengstenberg - double the size and half the price...
Had the as a free sample from Ocado to review. Its not something Id usually buy but it had quite a mild taste and I enjoyed it more than I expected. Tried with cheese on a sandwich and it was a bit like piccalilli, I went back to the jar to add more as the taste is so mild. Very watery though and too big a jar to eat in 3 days. Not sure Id buy it again, maybe if I can think of more things it would go with. I could taste the turmeric but it was more of an aftertaste.
