Can't cut jack

This thing is bad, it can cut through more than a cm of grass without choking up. I cut my grass regularly once a week and it cant seem to manage it. All the grass gets clumped up before it reaches the catcher stopping the blades, im going to lose my fingers someday due to constantly having to free the blades. I'm all for electric stuff like that, but don't power something with batteries if it can't do it's job. Shoulda kept the petrol mower, it actually got the job done.

I bought this because the battery of my "Old Faithful" B&D model CLM5448PCB-XJ lawnmower I bought in 2018 died and I couldn't find a replacement battery (I've sent a request to B&D to see if they can help now, should've tried that first). This new B&D Astro Lawnmower is not even fit enough to teach a kid to mow the lawns, he'll get into trouble for the poor state of the lawn. Even if I didn't like my neighbour I won't mow his lawns with this thing. It is so bad I honestly believe tools like this will force people to go back to petrol and electric tools. It is bound to remove the trust of a whole generation to switch over to battery operated tools. Easy Mowing. Happy Lawns. Really happy Owner.

I have a small lawn as I am in a unit and find the Black & Decker Battery Mower ideal for the size of my lawn. I Mow around the back with the catcher on so I don't track grass clippings inside and then insert the mulcher for the rest. The Batteries last long enough to do the entire lawn and are easy to insert. This mower is light and can be stored easily. Extremely simple to put together for this old lady.

Good for small lawns
25 January 2023

Easy to assemble, quiet, lite and easy to use, batteries seem fine (we only use this on our small 150m2 town lawn, so no issue for battery life).Cut is ok, not the best-of-the-best, doesn't quite get as low as we would like, but perfectly acceptable.Used mulcher and catcher, both do what they need to.To start, push the button first then pull the handle (didn't seem logical, as our other mower you need to pull the handle (as safety) and then push button), but once you know how to start it does what it needs to.All in all, this is a good mower for the price, and great not to have cords for the electric option.Lite for kids and oldies alike. If you have a small lawn, that you keep cut regularly, then this would be an option worth looking at.We're happy and ... MoreEasy to assemble, quiet, lite and easy to use, batteries seem fine (we only use this on our small 150m2 town lawn, so no issue for battery life).Cut is ok, not the best-of-the-best, doesn't quite get as low as we would like, but perfectly acceptable.Used mulcher and catcher, both do what they need to.To start, push the button first then pull the handle (didn't seem logical, as our other mower you need to pull the handle (as safety) and then push button), but once you know how to start it does what it needs to.All in all, this is a good mower for the price, and great not to have cords for the electric option.Lite for kids and oldies alike. If you have a small lawn, that you keep cut regularly, then this would be an option worth looking at.We're happy and would recommend.

Great little machine
16 February 2023

I bought this mower because I have other 18v B&D products so can swap batteries. I only need it do areas where my robotic mower gets into trouble. It is perfect for the job. Light, easy to use and not noisy. I use the mulching option which works really when the grass is reasonably dry. I find the height adjustment a bit difficult. Perfect for my job. No petrol and no power cords.

Great little mower ...
14 September 2023

I bought this mower in Feb 21 and have been very pleased with its performance eversince. However now a few months out of warranty it will not start. thought it might be batteries, so bought new batteries ( not cheap) still wont start. I went back to mitre 10 , gave me address of stanley black and decker for service. I was told ny service dept that unless the mower was within warranty they could not help me because there are no spare parts for this mower besides batteries and blades.so even if i can find someone to find out what the problem is at $100 per hour, i still cannot get it fixed because there are no spare parts in NZ for this Mower. I wish I had known this before I spent $400.Should I have been told this by Mitre10 and or Stanley Black and decker?

Ok but not as easy to operate as it could be
8 February 2023

This is an ok product once you get used to it. Unfortunately the instructions aren't very comprehensive and it took several tries to get it to work reasonably. The grass gets stuck quite a bit in the opening to the grass catcher, and I found it easier to take the catcher off. It doesn't cut longer grass well and you have to raise the front to get through it without the grass sticking and switching the whole thing off. I find the best solution is to cut the long stuff with a push mower and finish with this.

Only useful for really light trimming of dry grass
17 November 2023

If you have a small lawn that mow very frequently and only when it's really dry, then this is the mower for you. Otherwise, get something with a lot more grunt that actually has the power to propel the clippings into the catcher. Otherwise you will be stopping every couple of minutes to clear the clippings. Similarly, for anything other than very light trimming, the battery life is awful.

Part time mower
14 August 2022

I'm in a rental that has lawns mowed fortnightly, which of course is sometimes just not enough. I wanted a cheap but effective cordless mower to keep it tidy on the off weeks, but it had to keep up with the really fast growing times, and the yard itself is horrendously uneven. I'd read reviews and took a chance, but I couldn't be happier. Being battery powered, hitting thick wet grass or uneven patches (aka a mound of dirt lol) causes it to cut out, but even my petrol mower struggled with this kind of lawn. Take it easy, a quick lift here and there, no worries. As for the weight-wow! Too easy, it's like pushing a toy around. My 5 year old was mowing the flat parts on her own. Glad I got the dual battery, I'm pretty fussy and go over uneven patches to get a clean ... MoreI'm in a rental that has lawns mowed fortnightly, which of course is sometimes just not enough. Glad I got the dual battery, I'm pretty fussy and go over uneven patches to get a clean finish. 45 minutes and a happy camper before the batteries died. Loaned it to family not long ago, same thing, decent sized uneven lawn, and they were pretty impressed. Added bonus of course is the interchangable batteries. I'm just starting to rebuild my collection of power tools, just for home use, so very handy. Comes with a single charger and takes a couple hours each battery, but plan ahead and you can have them both charged before you need them. Once I get a few more tools I'll grab a second charger. When I put the mower together, I did wind the cord from mower to top of handle around quite a few times so it doesn't get caught on anything, and don't fold the handle down. But to be honest I haven't tried to as its not necessary for me, and that was just personal choice. Overall, it's done me a few good months already with some fast and wet growth, so happy to recommend.

Warning - Black and Decker Changed Battery Format
11 December 2023

We bought a Black and Decker lawnermower for my elderly mother and she loved it but.... needed a new battery and low and behold B&D have changed the format so less than 5 years old and still in good working order but you can't get a battery for it. I'm trying to move to all electric but tactics like this to force you to by another mower, battery and charger is extortion at the least .... as if we'd buy another B&D one! All my B&D tools are going on trademe for $1 reserve going to switch to Ryobi or other brand!
