I have a large amount of power tools but am always looking for tools that I would find a use for. I have a disc sander, a sheet sander, a belt sander and also a mouse sander. All of them are great and each makes sanding just a little easier. But this is really useful too for getting at little spots that need sanding and also a little bit of filing down. Black and decker is the brand my dad bought and although they don’t have the kudos that some other brands have today they still make good tools and sanders are one of them. I had my black and decker quattto drill die on me earlier this year after 35 years of good service, so that says a lot about this brand.This works well and feels well made so I am confident that this will last me a long time as well

I bought this B&D Powerfile for working on both wood & metal.On the first "project", I was tidying up the wooden frame of a chair, and I used the Powerfile to get to all of the niggly little areas and tight radii, where it worked really well. I have also used it to shape the edges of brass & aluminium plate, again it works really well.I have various grit belts, changing over is very straight forward & quick. Add this to the wide range of speeds available and the Powerfile allows fine control through to fast removal of material. Having all of the hard work done by the Powerfile, I can concentrate on achieving the end result I am after.This is a very useful and capable tool, that I thoroughly recommend.

My third or fourth of these. Would not be without one of these in my tool bag. But Each one fails for the same reason. The axle in the wheel at the end of the arm drifts out and although can be pressed in, this becomes more loose as time goes on and eventually the bearings themselves also become damaged – it is one of these issues which causes ultimate failure. It seems immoral to be throwing a perfectly an otherwise perfectly good machine away. Please supply replacement arm with improvement to bearing axle. Perhaps a price point of £7.50?

I have a large amount of power tools but am always looking for tools that I would find a use for. I have a disc sander, a sheet sander, a belt sander and also a mouse sander. All of them are great and each makes sanding just a little easier. But this is really useful too for getting at little spots that need sanding and also a little bit of filing down. Black and decker is the brand my dad bought and although they don’t have the kudos that some other brands have today they still make good tools and sanders are one of them. I had my black and decker quattto drill die on me earlier this year after 35 years of good service, so that says a lot about this brand.This works well and feels well made so I am confident that this will last me a long time as well

This is an awesome piece of kit!! I bought it to remove paint, from floorboards, under the radiator pipes and it did just that. It managed to get into places my delta sander could not. A word of warning though you may need to practise using it on some offcuts of wood or whatever you intend to sand - I managed to gouge the floorboards when first using it; this was down to a combination of low grit sanding paper and a high speed setting on the tool. Once I changed the sand-paper to a higher grit rating and lowered the speed it was OK. With the use any tool, familiarity is important along with knowing any limitations. In a nutshell it did the job and did it well. I bought it for the one job mentioned above - sure I will find other uses for it (it's a man thing!). One ... MoreThis is an awesome piece of kit!! Fast and efficient. I’d strongly suggest having a few practice runs on an old bit of wood before tackling the real job. I had it at the first setting and after reading the reviews, used a very light touch, still managed to create a groove. Fortunately in a place where it won’t be seen. I also found it surprisingly heavy and had to stop fairly regularly. I guess when you get used to it that won’t be such an issue. Overall, highly recommended addition to your tool box.
I found this power file totally unsuitable for my application which was tidying/ smoothing welds. The black and decker has a rubber wheel at the front of the sander which literally wore away after10 mins useage. I also use Sikverline power file in the same application and it works fine, it has a metal wheel at the front and does not suffer the same issue. Black and decker unit maybe fine fir wood soft plastics but not metal. Poorly designed product
Probably not for a cabinet maker looking for geometric precision but ideal for basic shaping of timber. I use mine for roughing out walking stick handles saving a lot of hand rasping, shaping knees etc. when fitting out dinghys and for removing weld spatter when repairing boat trailers . These are all hobby jobs but I see no reason why this sander couldn't be used in light commercial applications. 5 speeds make it very useable, the belt takes just seconds to change and the on-board dust extraction system works well although the canister needs to be emptied regularly. This only takes seconds so I don't regard it as a problem. One word of warning. I always wanted one of these despite not actually needing one until now. Had a little job to do where this was the ideal tool. I have to say it made very light work of the task and was actually far more powerful than I'd expected. I just need to find more jobs to make use of it now. Definitely a tool worth having in your collection.
I was sceptical of how much use this would be as I already owned a belt sander, random orbit and detail 'mouse', but none of them could reach one particular spot.This little beast is so accessible and removes material at an impressive rate and the dust extraction is as good any other belt sander. A very useful addition to the tool cupboard
