Black Diamond really did their homework with these trekking poles. I purchased these poles to replace a bent pair of the outgoing ergo cork trekking poles and these take all the great things about those and turns it up to 11. First of all the new flick lock mechanism is much improved and more robust than the older versions. The included adjustment bit that comes with the poles takes away the anxiety of making sure you have extra tools. And also overall durability appears to be better than the older ergo cork. If you’re looking to up your game and replace those old tired trekking poles. These are the ones to go with.

Bought these for my wife, but I wish I had gotten them for myself. They’re incredible! I frankly was opposed to poles (for no legitimate reason), but after trying these out…have converted fully 100%. And these are top notch poles at that. The wrist strap is incredibly comfortable, as is the cork, and the length adjusters are easy to use and very stable. If you’re on the fence, don’t be! Jump with two feet onto the pole side!!!

As an over-sixty female with knees that have been beat up by many years of skiing, these poles are a game changer. Especially on the downhills, they make my footfalls cushy. I know these poles have saved me from a couple of tumbles already. Hand grips are very comfortable, too. Easy to adjust and are compact enough to fit in my carry-on suitcase.

The Black Diamond Pursuit trekking poles are a big upgrade over our old Black Diamond trekking poles at half the weight. The design, ergonomics & materials are all top notch. We really like the feel of the cork grips, the bloom extensions & the light swing weight. Thank you!
These Pursuit poles are new from BD for 2023 and are seemingly replacing the prior Trail Cork series (including Ergo version with the angled grip). Compared to the Ergo version, which I own, there are some minor improvements. The first is that the Pursuit series all use BD Fliklock Pro which are an improvement over the cheaper plastic variation of Flicklock. In my experience both lock systems work well but Fliklock Pro has a more positive feeling lock and release to it. In addition to this the poles include hex inserts (bit holders) at the end of each of the lower shafts which can retain a 1.5mm bit thus allowing someone to tighten or loosen the locks on the trail (note: you adjust when the locks are OPEN-trying to adjust when the locks are closed will quickly break ... MoreThese Pursuit poles are new from BD for 2023 and are seemingly replacing the prior Trail Cork series (including Ergo version with the angled grip). Any 25mm/1" long 1.5mm hex bit will work.Other improvements include a more ergonomic grip shape. In my initial few hikes I think this is perhaps the most comfortable cork grip to date with a coke bottle shape that just feels good in the hand. True these poles lack the notable angle of the Ergo cork but honestly I couldnt actually feel any difference between the Ergo and straight handle in use. In short, either grip feels good but to each their own.Strap and strap adjustment are essentially the same as the Trail cork and Carbon cork series and I personally feel the strap material is a little thick and wouldnt have minded if they went to a similar, if not same, strap as that found on their revised Distance poles for the simple reason that the latter dont absorb moisture or take as long to dry as these straps.The tips and baskets remain largely unchanged over that of prior poles except for things like color and a small tweak in shape. Speaking briefly on color, I'm not sold on the fire engine red of "Octane" but the Sea Foam is pretty good looking in my opinion. I'd recommend looking at the red version in a store if you can as some of the stock photos definitely make it appear darker than it is.I also wanted to just post some quick specs since it seems BD and REI have some incorrect information published on this new series. The first is that this version come in S/M and M/L. The former has an adjustment range of 100-125cm with slightly smaller grips while the latter is 100-140cm with slightly larger grips. Unless you're 5'6" or under you'll probably want to opt for the M/L for the additional length adjustment that you may want for descents. The collapsed length is also smaller compared to prior models thanks to a hollowing out of the handle allowing the shaft to fully nest into it when collapsed. This bring the length when collapsed to just under 24.5" (62cm) vs the 27.5" (70cm) of my Ergo cork. Lastly the weight is slightly reduced. The M/L version weighs about 252g per pole compared to the 263g per pole of the Ergo cork (which also had 100-140cm of adjustment). Not a big weight difference but still wanted to mention it.The price on these are a fair bit higher compared to the outgoing Trail series however if you wait for a sale you wont be too far off and I dont think someone will be disappointed.Lastly, I did check out the anti shock version of these poles and found the mechanism to feel very cheap and essentially worthless. Just stick with this standard version. If you are truly interested in some sort of dampening feature check out Leki "AS" models. I did also purchase the Pursuit FLZ (folding model) which I may write a review for but the short version is that they're good. Just be aware that said folding FLZ model does actually have two distinct sizes being 100-125cm and125-140cm.
Have used these on a 40 mile backpacking trip in heavy forests, steep hills, and slippery conditions and they’ve done excellent. Use them for all sorts of small hikes and even to set up my Durston tent which requires trekking poles instead of typical tent poles. Lightweight, easy to adjust on the move, cork grips make warm sweaty weather more bearable, and the straps are comfortable too. Highly recommend!
These poles are perfect, except one thing: The FlickLock tabs are on the same side of both poles, so they are on the inside of the left pole. Once while hiking, the FlickLock of the left pole caught on my pocket and opened, and the pole collapsed when I put weight on it. Was on flat ground so not a big deal, but could have been a disaster if that happened while hiking down a mountain with a pack on. So I love these poles except the nagging worry that they could spontaneously collapse on any given stride.
These trekking poles are great. The locking mechanism is very nice! You can tighten the allen screw wtih just pulling out one of the tubes as it has the allen wrench on the inside of the trekking pole. They are super lightweight. This is my 2nd pair of Black Diamond trekking poles as my 1st pair was the Ergo and they are still going strong after several hundred miles. They are a little pricey but they are worth it.
I received the Pursuits yesterday. In the past, I have backpacked with a hiking pole (willow) or with no poles. I was concerned I wouldn’t feel comfortable. We took a hike with loaded packs yesterday and did about 5 miles. It took about two miles to get into a rhythm. They felt reasonably comfortable the last three. I’m still occasionally bumping my keys in my pocket or hitting another hiker, but overall I think these will work very well on our trek next year. I did a lot of research and selected this pair as a great balance of flyweight, durability, price, and comfort. I am very pleased thus far. I do wish the poles were offered with rubber tips. I ordered the screw in version separately, but will likely need ones that offer surface area to prevent damage to the trail.
I got these poles after using some mountainsmith shock absorbing poles for the better part of 9 years straight.So far the step up has been huge: good grips and foam grip extension for all the weird ways I hold things hiking. Super positive closures on the snaps, and included hex key for repairs, they feel a little heavier but really robust. Excited to see how they fair over the next 9 years...
