I have been using 2 decimator MD-LX's in our setup for a couple years now, but was never happy with the image quality I was getting from our wireless handheld (the other MD-LX was used in converting a computer output so it went unnoticed). I thought it was a problem with the older teradek we use. We had to go mobile recently and I was able to single out the decimator as the issue for the over-contrasted & overall low quality of the image. I swapped the converter out with a blackmagic sdi to hdmi converter and the image vastly improved. Bought this blackmagic 3G bidirectional converter to fill the specific roles the decimator had served in our typical setup, and have received the same results. Much higher quality image that is true to the out-of-camera picture ... It also converted a signal from an older iMac to a long sdi run to a stage tv that the MD-LX was not able to do. Plug and play baby. I'll be listing my decimators on ebay since they seem to retain their value as people love them... I will miss the flashy red though =)

Transmitted gopro data 150 feet.Picture quality was excellent. One thing to note, if you use one of these to feed a Roland video mixer, you may need a sdi distribution amp so the color space is correct. That is what I had to do. Here is setup:gopro - 10 foot hdmi cable - BMD 3G - 150 feet sdi cable -BMD 3G - 3 foot hdmi - SDI Dist Amp -25foot hdmi cable - Roland v-8Pretty simple.

Great product, wish Blackmagic made there instructions easy to find...These did what I need right out o the box, but couldn't find the instructions to confirm that. Had to plug them in and hope for the best...They did what I needed!

We have a large campus and our backbone is HD-SDI so I have these things everywhere there is a consumer TV. They work. I am so glad they made them bi-directional because it is no fun to grab the wrong direction one or not have enough of the direction you need on hand (they used to be directional).
This is an amazing converter that is simple to hookup and was what we needed to extend the in-house video over long distance runs with full HD 1080p. The one thing that would have made it better is if it could be powered over the cabling and not an external power source. Enabling it to power if if no signal was present would be a nice feature too.
I now have four of these guys. I use SDI for longer video runs for streaming events, but these bidirectional versions add a loop out capability that makes it even better. They're tiny little workhorses for all things video, plus I don't have to sort out which one's the transmitter and which one's the receiver.
The converter is relatively small in comparison to the big performance it provides! I recently purchased an ATEM Mini Extreme ISO and quickly discovered I was unable to use the supported camera controls over SDI cables. However, the BiDirectional converter made the camera controls possible with my Pocket Cinema 4K over my long SDI cable runs! Cheers!
This bidirectional converter is the new hot item in my production environment. It gets used in two main scenarios:1. Consolidating two separate converters into one. I can have one SDI to HDMI for my preview monitor, and then an HDMI to SDI to send out to a group of TVs.2. Pocket Cinema 4K control over SDI. Yep, you can do that now! Just run two SDI lines for in and out and you can control the Pocket Cinema from the ATEM software. Neat!I'm loving the continued innovation and affordability in the Black Magic ecosystem. Keep it up!
I have 4 of these. They are working well. You may want to test these for a few daysbefore an install.Warning: I hooked one of these to my Roland V-1HD video mixer. No signal. Hooked an HDMI distro amp between them, and thenit started working. These use colorspace YUV. The Roland waslooking for colorspace RGB.The distro amp was a to fix the issue!
