A Big Compact Gaming Keyboard Win!

The layout is perfect for my preferences and the scroll wheel and accompanying media buttons are a nice bonus. One thing I've not been impressed with relating to Razer keyboards is there cheap feeling construction. This KB is nothing like any of the other Razers I've tried. It is absolutely solid and free from any annoying resonances. The switches are replaceable but I am more than satisfied with the tactile performance of the Orange ones and I would go even further and say that these are probably right up there with my favorite tactile switches ever. This 75% layout is just what I was looking for. The key-caps are great, the secondary labeling on the most critical keys is appreciated even though they aren't lit and the wrist wrest is also very comfortable - if you want to use it. I tend to stand and like using the keyboard without it - but it's there when needed. The typing experience is truly top-self and the quiet nature of these Orange switches is remarkable. The key-caps have a perfect amount of texture to them as well and I couldn't be more happy.Moving on to the RGB lighting features of the Razer - BlackWidow V4 75%, I am also really happy with how the Synapse/Razer Central software is operating. For years Razer software was a touch buggy with predictable Windows Error events getting posted in the Reliability Monitor - but I've not experienced a single event with this keyboard for a full week. The lighting control options are extensive and the illumination profile of this KB is phenomenal. The translucent characters are big and bright - and the font is great. No weird looking font style like many other manufacturers use to try to look different.I like the removable cable but wish there was an onboard USB port - but I get why there isn't one. No biggie! This keyboard is designed to keep things compact and high-performance focused. And it does just that.Overall I think Razer struck the right balance on the Razer - BlackWidow V4 75%. The 75% layout strikes a balance between functionality and compactness, making it a great choice for gamers and professionals alike. The standout feature of this keyboard is the hot-swappable switch design. This means you can customize the typing experience by swapping out switches without soldering or desoldering. It's a fantastic feature for those who like to experiment with different switches or those who want to replace a faulty one without much hassle. The Orange switches on this keyboard offer a tactile and satisfying typing experience. They're not too loud, making them suitable for both gaming and office work. Typing on this keyboard feels comfortable and responsive, and it's clear that Razer has put a lot of thought into the switches. The customizable RGB backlighting is another highlight. Razer's Chroma RGB lighting is known for its vibrant colors and extensive customization options. You can personalize the lighting to match your mood, gaming setup, or even sync it with your favorite games for a truly immersive experience. The build quality is solid, and the keyboard feels durable. It's built to withstand intense gaming sessions, and the keycaps are double-shot PBT, ensuring they won't wear down quickly. The detachable USB-C cable is a nice touch for easy portability. And here's the great news, the keyboard does come with a wrist rest! The wrist rest is made of a very soft cloth material, adding a layer of comfort to extended typing or gaming sessions. This thoughtful inclusion greatly enhances the overall user experience. Now, let's address the remaining shortcomings. The absence of dedicated function keys might be a deal-breaker for some users. While the compact layout is convenient, it comes at the cost of some missing keys, which could be inconvenient if you frequently use these functions.Additionally, the absence of a broader range of compatible switches for the hot-swappable design could be improved in the future to offer users even more versatility in customizing their typing experience.Overall, the Razer BlackWidow V4 75% Gaming Keyboard is an excellent choice for those who want a compact, hot-swappable keyboard with a tactile typing experience and customizable RGB lighting. Its minor shortcomings, such as the lack of dedicated function keys, are outweighed by the inclusion of a comfortable wrist rest. Razer continues to deliver quality gaming peripherals, and this keyboard is no exception, earning a solid 4-star rating for gaming and productivity enthusiasts.

Great build, performance, & fully customizable!

First things first: This keyboard is beautiful right out of the box. Just by holding it, I can tell that a lot of thought went into the design language. The build quality is impressive as well. This keyboard comes jammed pack with features and accessories. The rocker, play/pause, and mute controls feel great. The keyboard has raiser stands and a detachable braided USB cable that I wish was easier to replace but is very nice and has decent length. The magnetic wrist wrap feels solid yet comfortable. A keycap/switch pull tool was included as well. Once plugged in, the RGB lighting is outstanding. There is very little light bleed, and the letters are well lit for the most part. The double-shot ABS keycaps have a nice feel that minimizes slips. They sound amazin. There is very little light bleed, and the letters are well lit for the most part. The double-shot ABS keycaps have a nice feel that minimizes slips. They sound amazin. Now, this keyboard features orange tactile mechanical switches, which feel amazing when typing, but some gamers prefer linear as I mostly do. However, I put these switches to the test and the travel and activation are not bad at all, and I became used to them rather quickly. I then switched them for yellow linear switches and now I am not sure which ones I prefer. As advertised, this keyboard is fully customizable. First, the switches are 3 pins, but the socket allows for 5 pin switches. Using the included tool, replacing them is a simple task. When I say customizable, I mean everything. From the switches and keycaps to the MX style stabilizers topside. Now, if you wish to go even further, everything inside can also be customized or replaced. That includes the FR4 metal plate, gasket mounts, and dampening tape. Just keep in mind that opening the chassis will void the warranty. While the RGB can be changed via the keyboard, the Razer Synapse Software allows for much more customization, such as macros, media functions, and RGB patterns. The keyboard comes with a polling rate of 1000 stock, but it can also go to a whopping 8000! All these changes can be saved in profiles. If there is one thing to nitpick, it would be that this keyboard is not wireless. However, this is being marketed to gamers and enthusiasts, so that may not be a negative to some. Now, this may be a gaming keyboard, but it has all the benefits of a pre-build if that is what you want. Not only that, but this is a great offering for those enthusiasts who like to build or tinker without breaking the bank.

Impressive Customization and a Few Caveats
26 October 2023

Overall, the Razer BlackWidow V4 75% is an impressive keyboard. Razer’s Orange tactile switches feel very responsive and sound great right out of the box. If you aren’t a fan of tactile switches, the keyboard comes with a keycap and switch puller which allows you to hot swap the original switches with both 3 and 5-pin switches. Since I’m not a fan of tactile switches, I swapped mine out for Gateron’s linear “Oil Kings.” They feel really smooth and sound pretty great on the BlackWidow as well. The only downside is that the Oil Kings block the RGB from the keyboard’s PCB, however the RGB on the media buttons and the side lighting still look great, nonetheless. The BlackWidow comes with a wrist rest that magnetically attaches to the keyboard. It’s exceptionally soft and feels comfortable to type on. The media keys are very convenient, and the roller is a nice touch for controlling volume whenever I need it. However, the mute button and roller can be remapped to do lots of other different actions using Razer Synapse. Even though the marketing boasts about customizability, if you want to mod the keyboard beyond keycaps and switches, be aware that taking the actual keyboard apart will void your warranty.

Love this keyboard!

This is nearly perfect keyboard. I spent a long time (20+ years) trying to find which keyboard worked for me. I went through several hundreds of IBM, corsair, razer, steelseries, and logitech keyboards. Mechanical, linear, tactile, and everything else. Over the years, I've easily spent over $4000 on keyboards alone. Everything felt either too clunky, too loud, too soft, not impactful enough, cheap, overdesigned, or underdesigned.**The Good**The simplicities of this board is what make it what it is. It has 5 standard macro buttons, 3 side panel buttons, and a fully customizable keyset. It takes up minimal space, and is made of pretty high quality material. Now, the switches... These switches are the best. Yellow mechanical are silent enough to not be click clacking, but impactful enough to really give it that feeling that you clicked something. The actuation points are on point. Lastly the brightness. This lights up my room, it's actually brighter than my computer.**The Bad**So, there are some improvements to be had.1. The lenses on the media keys should be see through, so you can see which buttons you're pressing. Not a huge deal, but none-the-less, will improve the experience.2. The cords that come with the keyboard are modular, meaning you can disconnect the cords from the keyboard. Now normally, this would good, and it does a great job at staying in. However, if you move the keyboard too much, or I'm guessing unplug and replug. The fitting will eventually ware. Even now, with a brand new keyboard, it'll disconnect sometimes in the middle of gaming. That being said, the grips on the bottom with the padding do a really good job at keeping it in place

While I was installing the keyboard a pop-up opened for the Synapse app, I chose to use the windows standard to control the keyboard. I did lose some of the lighting features by doing so. On a side note, if you are planning to utilize this keyboard on a laptop make sure you have an available USB-A slot open or have a USB-C to USB-C spare cable. The cable is long enough to reach just under 6 feet. The BlackWidow comes with a 2-in-1 keycap and switch puller. The USB plugs into the top of the keyboard, in the middle of the keyboard this is a USB 2.0 Type C port. There are also the standard 2 kickstands at the bottom of the keyboard. You can control the following from the keyboard. The F9 key is also the on-the-fly macro recorder, the F10 key is also the gaming mode key, The F11/12 keys control the volume. There is also a button for the Multifunction and the mute. The delete key enders sleep mode. Pressing the function button activates the above controls. The included manual shows all the hot keys for adjusting the lighting effects.

Razer has found the sweet spot

As soon as I pulled it out of the packaging and got my hands on I was impressed. This board has the razer orange tactile switches (gen3) and I love them. They have the tactile feel that I like (longtime mx blue user) but the sound and feel of them is terrific. This is easly the best typing experience I've had on a prebuilt keeb. The switches come prelubed from the factory and you can tell. The travel and sound of them is so nice. Nowhere near as loud as other switches, though the spacebar is noticeably louder. You'd be hard pressed to build even the cheapest custom board for this price. Having said that, if these switches aren't to your taste, it can get expensive. If you want to replace them and don't already know which switches you'd prefer, grab a cheap sampler online. The stabilizers on the longer keys also come pre lubed and are just great in general. As mentioned the space bar is slightly louder than the other keys, but that's normal.Design-wise it's a pretty standard 75% layout. You lose your number pad keys and the key cluster that lives above your arrow keys on a full sized board. No big deal for me, though I do miss print screen for screen capture. I love the size for gaming, gives me much more room for my mouse. You get a very nice volume rocker with discrete stops, mute switch, and media play/pause key. I really like this setup. The caps lock key turns white win enabled. The white colorway looks fantastic with or without RGB, but with RGB it really shines. Even with completely opaque keycaps, which feel great, the board just looks gorgeous. Oh yeah the keycaps, they're ABS not doubleshot PBT which are widely regarded as the best for quality and longevity. These feel really well made though, not thin chintzy caps so right now I'm not worried. Worst case scenario you can grab a keycap set you like (make sure you select a set with the correct stems). To get the most out of the board though you're going to have to install razer synapse. The bad news is that synapse is as bloated as ever, and frankly not worth the trouble. Razer has been iterating on this for years now, and to be honest it's about average as far as this kind of software is concerned. It's at the very least on par from what other manufacturers are putting out. If you want to get deep into customization you're going to have to use it. But there is some good news. If you're on windows 11, a recent update has brought RGB control to a wide range of peripherals. When I first plugged in the board a razer synapse prompt popped up. I kind of groaned, but then another popup appeared asking me if I wanted windows to control the lighting. It's more limited than what you can do with synapse for sure, but the convenience of not having another piece of software running the background, a piece of software that's going to fight with my cooler and mobo software ... totally worth that small sacrifice. I did check out synapse for the extra rgb effects and other features, but it's just not worth it for me. So you have options finally which is nice. The wrist rest is a nice touch. I never use these things since they're usually just cheap plastic, but this one is a soft leatherish material. Feels super comfortable. It's also magnetic, not so strong that you have to pry it off the board, but strong enough so it'll stay in place. This is a big step up from the cheap plastic wrist rests that snap onto the bottom of your board. It's a nice touch, though i am concerned about it's durability, and whether or not it'll discolor. Such is the life of white peripheral enjoyer.I feel worth mentioning that this is not my first mechanical keyboard. I've only used prebuilt boards because well, I'm not a millionaire, and I can't justify the price for the kind of build I'd be interested in. I have used a lot of mechanical boards though. I went through three razer blackwidow ultimate boards back in the day (and another 5 or 6 non razer boards since), each one developed a fault with some of the switches right around the one year mark. There would be cross talk or chatter or other issues. It was very disappointing because I loved those boards, they were pretty much the only option back then. I chalk that up to using different switches. It happens. But that is one of the massive benefits of having a hotswappable board. You don't have to junk your expensive board if one switch goes bad, you can just grab some more switches (pricey but still cheaper than a new board) and replace the bad one. Of course you'll want to grab a switch puller which is not included. These are relatively cheap, but still ... it would've been nice to have one included as well as a few extra switches.Final thoughts:Overall, this is just an insanely good keyboard. If you're new to mech keebs, or you've only ever used prebuilt keebs, this is definitely worth a look. There are some downsides such as reliance on synapse software for full customization and only one switch option, but that will vary depending on personal preference. Personally I'm happy with a simple static RGB color, and I LOVE these switches so neither of these is a problem. Razer should offer this board with their other switches, I honestly can't fathom why they haven't. Different switch options, spare switches, and a switch puller, would easily make this the perfect package, but even without those it's so close. Just a great keyboard whether you're into gaming or productivity. The ergonomics of a board like this for long typing sessions can't be beat. It's simply fantastic.

Sweet looking great keyboard

To sum it up i love having more desktop space and this keyboard fit the bill to a T. Losing the 25% of the keyboard i though was going to be weird or bug me but to be honest i absolutely love it. You do lose your number keys on the side of the keyboard but all the buttons i normally use are still there and with it's more compact size i have room on my desk to now set the mic and my second speaker. Setup was a breeze as it normally is with Razer items. Just install Razer Synapse and any gear that is razer it automatically finds and gives you all your settings rite on the screen including the RGB settings. In the picture i used the keyboard is red except the Q key because im playing diablo 4 and it has pre setup RGB for games and some of them you mite have on your ... MoreTo sum it up i love having more desktop space and this keyboard fit the bill to a T. In the picture i used the keyboard is red except the Q key because im playing diablo 4 and it has pre setup RGB for games and some of them you mite have on your computer. So as i did i just selected diablo 4 and it will set up the keys to correspond with the game you are playing. So in a nutshell my 1-2-3-4 are my attack keys and my Q is my potion key and were i was when i took the picture you could only use a potion so that's why the Q key was lit up white. I love the software because i did not need to download any 3rd party software to get this option to work or have to pay a monthly fee. They keys are the middle of the road for the clicking sound not to much but just enough to know when you hit a hey it actually was pressed and the space bar key makes a different sound then the rest every time you hit it. The keyboard is very solid made out of a metal feeling material not plastic. If your looking to gain some desktop space back i highly recommend a 75% keyboard like this one and if you're looking for a wicked cool looking keyboard look no further because this keyboard checks every box that you need for a great keyboard that looks awesome and is definitely a solid addition to anyone's computer build.

THE PERFECT SOLUTION TO CLUTTERED DESKS
17 October 2023

I needed a keyboard for my laptop in order to reduce the clutter on my desk and give myself more space to work. I can't believe I waited this long to do this! I just needed to buy a docking station because I didn't have an extra usb port to plug in the keyboard. Once I got that taken care of, I connected everything and moved my laptop over to a side table. Luckily, the keyboard's cord is long enough that I was able to move everything without issue. My keyboard is now basically the only electronic device that sits on my desk (I have a separate monitor on a shelf above). I'm thrilled with the results. I have so much more space now for my drink, mouse, mousepad, etc. It all looks so much cleaner and more organized. The keyboard itself is generally perfectly adequate ... MoreI needed a keyboard for my laptop in order to reduce the clutter on my desk and give myself more space to work. The keys are a little more elevated than I would have liked, but they're fine otherwise. I'll get used to them. They are backlit so I can see clearly even in low lighting. I'm overall very pleased with my new configuration. I also love the volume control located on the keyboard itself. It's a scrolling device so much more efficient than going into the computer control panel. The only other con aside from the keys being more elevated than those on my laptop is that there is no number keypad off to the side. But honestly, I don't work with numbers so I don't use it as often as other people might. Therefore, not a deal breaker.
