Blokus Game

Blokus is a fun game of strategy. I enjoy playing this game with my students because I get to see them exercise their critical thinking skills. Like with all games the competitiveness of this game adds to the fun. Once the board is filled it looks like an analog version of Tetris. I love that this game provides the perfect mixture of challenge.

I don’t know how I just found out about this game but I’m obsessed with it. I’ve always been a Tetris fan and this is amazing. And it’s not a slow game, so if you’re looking for something quick to play with friends this is it. I love that you can play with 2-4 players. The box is also bright and catches your eye. Price is good, not expensive at all.

I’m so glad we have this game! It makes you think outside the box. The basics of it is like Tetris however, you have others playing along with you that can block your moves and throw a wrench in your plan! How will you pay them back and block them or will you just move on. This game has multiple strategy points, your strategy will vary by how your opponents play, so be flexible!

First off, this is one of our absolutely favorite board games, so the two stars are not for the game itself - it is absolutely brilliant. We have an older version of Blokus that we play at my parents' home, and we wanted to finally get a game to keep at our house as well. This came in the mail yesterday and, as someone who never leaves reviews, I felt compelled to get on here. I am so tired of these game companies cutting costs and making cheaper, flimsier versions of our beloved games. The board this time around is smaller and thinner quality than the older version we have. And the box. Oh the box is a nightmare. I'm so upset because I doubt this "box" will last three play before it begins to rip and fall apart. I am honestly considering returning the whole thing I'm so frustrated with the packaging and board quality. We have had our other Blokus game and box for about 6 years. I doubt this version will last 6 months. Buyer beware :(

I needed another 1v1 game as our current lineup was getting a little stale. Blokus Duo succeeded in spicing things up. I'm sure the original is a little more open and unpredictable but within three games of Duo my opponent and I were developing fairly tight strategies. There's little margin for error if both players are of the same level and that can make for some really tight competition. While I think some reviews overstate the advantage of going first, player two can indeed easily get caught up in "defense" if they don't make a good move early. But this is where making the game a "best of" 3/5/7/+ games series pays off. A round of Blokus Duo is quite short, even for the pondering strategists out there. Keep your brain active

This game is great. First played it when we stayed with relatives after evacuating from 2019/20 Bushfires. Love that you can have 2 - 4 players. Only 1 Rule to the game. Its easy to set up and play straight away. But its not a simple game. It really gets your strategist brain in gear. Possibilities of moves are endless and no 2 rounds are ever the same. A great distraction for anyone looking to alleviate boredom during COVID lockdowns. Highly recommended.

Pleasantly surprised

I’ve been trying to get Blokus XL — something we had years ago — to no avail.I really didn’t want to get the smaller size but had to since I couldn’t find the other anywhere. I’m honestly glad it worked out that way. It’s much easier to store, and it really doesn’t seem to matter losing those couple inches. It’s nice quality, too.If you’re on the fence and really like/want the game but can’t get XL, maybe the smaller size isn’t so bad after all.

Plot your next move to win

It is a great game. If you want complete silence while people concentrate (or plot their next move), then this is the game for you. What a great strategic game to play. Was recommended by friends after taking it away camping one weekend. Have now recommended it on to others and bought 2 now for Christmas Presents.

This game is sooo fun. We love to play the larger version but when there is only two players it makes more sense to play the duo. My only issue is that the board is so small that you run out of moves VERY fast. If you don't play the pieces exactly as they fit (which wouldn't be very fun because you could never change up your strategy) then you run out of moves way too often to make the game very interesting. They should have made the board a bit larger so you can play all or most of your pieces in a single game. EVERY time we have played we have NEVER gotten even close to using all the pieces before you run out of space, and it's not because the players are so good they block you from finding more available moves. We love the high contrast (black and white pieces). My partner is legally blind and has a hard time discerning the four colors in Blokus. Wish every color-based game would create a two player version in B&W. We love to take games with us when we travel and this version will be much easier to bring along on our next cruise or other trip. Also love that this game starts in the middle of the board instead of the corners. We are going to try playing the 4 person game starting in the middle. It makes you work harder right from the start!
