The app is not required to operate the device.Because this device is neither small nor light, it is a nice feature that there are two very functional wheels on the bottom that allow you to tilt it back and roll it effortlessly (it would be awkward to move otherwise for most people).Operation, in my case, was as simple and straightforward as turning the device on and selecting the automatic mode. Manual selections include toggles for airflow speed, for GermShield (which they claim kills viruses and bacteria on the filter), and for wi-fi.The air quality information panel has scrollable information on temperature, relative humidity, filter life, size/prevalence of particulate matter, and an indication of prevalence of volatile organic compounds. The critical information on particulate matter and gasses is also intuitively color-coded in a bar along the base of the panel so you can know at a glance what the recent status of your air quality has been - you can see it from very far away from the device itself.At the highest possible fan speed, the purifier is noisy but unless there is a constant influx of gasses or particles (paint fumes, pollens, cigarette smoke, etc.), I find that the fan stays on the lowest speed or is off and operation is very quiet even in close proximity.While the room I have this in is less than 684 square feet in floor space, its ability to move air makes me confident that their claim is not an exaggeration.Note: Blueair purifiers are not tested against coronavirus.

Had it for 2 weeks, tried 2 units, thoroughly tested in 2 different locations. Software or sensor significant issue detected for both units. The tVOC sensor (gases), would erratically jump to high while no pollution detected. Checked with 3 different air quality monitors that would show roughly the same values at the same time. The monitors also indicated no gases present while both purifier units would display a visual showing "very high pollution. For a premium product, this is not acceptable. I can only assume this problem happens to a number of units, please be aware of this as the readings are completely unreliable, in particular those for gasses. The problem is that because of the faulty reading registered, the fans would kick in as the software would indicate a problem when there is none, due to the faulty unit. The error margin is too high and the unit is too erratic. As a purifier, it cleans well but sensors / software are not to to be trusted. It's such a shame and so bad for such a premium product to fail this way. I really hope this can be sorted in the future but as it stands, chances are you might get these issues too. Therefore, I do not recommend this product.

I bought this last month and I’m so glad I did. I bought 3 for myself and 1 for my mom. My mom has very bad allergies and asthma as well as my brother. She always has a bad cough because of it when allergies kick in on top of asthma. My brother is the same way. So I bought her one for a Christmas gift after a couple of month of research on different purifiers. She loves it. When I talk to her on the phone she doesn’t have that deep cough and talks about how good it feels in her apartment now.We have a larger home so I bought myself 3. I placed them in the larger open rooms. My kids as well as my husband have crazy allergies. Mine have been in the more milder side this year thankfully. I do have humidifiers as well because it is so dry here with the weather. It definitely makes it very relaxing in my home. My husband was asleep and snoring when we plugged them up because he said it just felt more relaxing and fresh. It’s very spa like. I like how it eliminates odors very quickly. If we makes cheeseburgers they all kick in to high speed and it’s no time before the smell is gone. I also really like the anti microbial selection on them. I do keep mine on 24/7. If it senses bacteria or viruses, it turns all the way up to start filtering the air. Which is great because of Covid. Which is another reason why I bought this model. It’s practically a hospital grade purifier. I’ve even been looking into trying to get some for some local schools since they do donations. I recommend this to anyone and everyone. If you have allergies and asthma, or just want fresh clean air. The app is also wonderful. I can control all 3 of the purifiers with my phone if I need to. My youngest son likes to touch them so the child lock comes in handy. The app shows your trending air quality and the settings each one is on. It also shows the filter life you have left. You can even set them to turn on and filter when you are 15 mins away from home. So say you turn them off and go to work or go anywhere, you can set them to the gps in your phone. When you are 15 mins away they will kick on and filter so you have fresh air when you come home!!!
